Well, after a couple of years on the shelf, I've decided to finish my 34% CA models Extra 300L. This is the older version of what is available today, but it should be an excellent project. I've got a BME 105 for power. I'm thinking of using dual recievers with no powerbox system, just the recievers. I'll use dual reciever batteries and switches, and a Smart Fly Optical Kill Switch. Servos will be Hitec 5955's for the elevators and rudder. I'd also like to use them in the ailerons, but I may use 5925's. There will be two per aileron. I'm going to use a Hitec programmer for the syncronizing.

I still have to do some sheeting on the fuse and install a couple more formers.

Steve, a very nice plane indeed. I have 31 flights on mine with a DA100. I dont do much 3d, but it can fly precise manuevers quite well. Enjoy the plane.

ummm..nothing really...except maybe bolted the stabs differently. Also cut the elevator with counter balance. used CF mains and tail gears...i will think about it more and let you know.

I already have the Graphtec mains. I just need to pick up a Petes Models tailwheel. I plan on counter ballancing the elevators, "I think". I may go a little larger on the ailerons also. I need to look into some wing fasteners.

i use bolts from the inside the fuse to hold the wing roots, rather than bolt from the top of the wings INTO the wing tube. I dont like that method. if u PM me your email, i will send u some pics.

Got some more work done on it. I added the bottom sheeting. I also added a little extra where the stringers are a little weak due to length.

I also glued in the tri stock on all the formers where they meet the fuse. The rudder tray was also glued in.

After looking over the instructions, there didn't seem to be any suports for the wing and stab tubes sockets in the fuse, so I made some rings out of scrap for the stab tube. Once glued in, I checked alignment and glued the stab tube in place. I also glued the wing tube sockets in place. I'll add some 1/4 X 1/4 to the top of the wing tube sockets. I also capped the ends of the tubes that will be glued into the wings and stabs.

Built the fuel and smoke tank mount next. I used a piece of 1/4 light ply and drilled some holes to lighten it up some. The rails are 1/4 X 3/16 spruce. This mount was set up parallel with the thrust line.

What size fuel tank is good for a 100cc engine for 12 to 15 minutes of flying?? I have a 32 oz I'm using for it now, but I always have a lot of fuel left in the tank. I'm planning on a 24 oz tank for this one, I just want to make sure its enough.

Next I needed to get the stab incidence set, but I don,t want to use the stock mounting. I made some new root ribs for the stabs so I could use two mounting screws instead of a bolt through the wing tube.

After checking fit and gluing the root ribs to the stabs, I checked my incidence with the top of the fuse and drilled the mounting locations for the stabs. I also checked the top of the fuse with the wing center line to make sure it was a good refferance and it was. Incidence is set at zero. I use Robart meters for the setup.

Great build Steve. I was just looking at the pics i wanted to send you, but seems like you wont need any. Your plane is almost identically built as mine. Even the way the gas and smoke tanks are placed is IDENTICAL. The stab has been attached EXACTLY as you are doing so. I will still hunt out some pics for your ref. if it helps. I am using a Da100 with a sinlge futaba 149dp rx. Dual nicd 6v packs with an i4C servo isolator. I used a powerbox for the first 20 flights but then thought it was not really needed as I am not using that many servos that require a powerbox. I am using a single 8611 on each ail surface. A single 8611 on each elevator half. Twin 8611's on the rudder using an SWB rudder tray with floating bellcrank. I also use an optical engine kill switch (cant recall the brand at the moment). I also use a choke servo and use a good metal geared coreless servo on the throttle. I used a sullivan smoke pump for a few flights and really enjoyed the smoke. However after a few flights, you want to lose that extra weight and make the plane as light as possible. Now my smoke tank stays empty and I have removed the smoke pump as well. The engine is still pretty new, only 34 flights on it and I am on the 4th gallon of 32:1 fuel. I use a 16oz tank (i think) and I get a comfortable 9 mins of flying time. I dont need more than this for my kind of flying.

The airplane fly's really great. This being my first 100cc, I am still getting used to its size. Feels lazy in the sky as compared to my comp arf 2x2 50cc. But I really like this plane. If you need anymore info from me, please feel free to ask.

I'll be using dual recievers in this one for a little extra safety. What size rudder horn are you using? I'll probably purchase an SWB rudder horn, I just need to figure out what size I need. I'll also be running two rudder servos.

Now that the stabs are set I was able to check the fin and get it glued on. I also glued the fin fillet in place. Next is to glue the wing leading edge on.

After looking through the supplied leading edge stock, I decided to go with larger balsa. I used a sheet of 1/2" balsa, 4" X 36". I cut this into four strips of 1" X 1/2". Since the wings are over 40" long, I used a 3" overlap in the splice to get the fouty sum inches I needed for the leading edge. I wanted a much sharper leading edge for better snaps and this is just right.

After letting the glue dry, I did the initial sanding on the leading edge. I use a hobby knife to trim off most of the extra balsa, then I sand to match the wing sheeting. the leading edge shape will be done later.
