I got in some good practice today on the IMAC sequence, on the third flight the back plate to the spinner came apart, actually disintegrated, it sounded like a backfire, I immediately landed to find the back plate gone, the cowel got tore up when the pieces departed at over 6000rpm(I was wide open at the time), they knicked the prop badly enough that it will be replaced . The cowel can be rescued with epoxy. I think I will go down to a 3-31/2"spinner, this the second backplate I have had problems with, the first one was an MPI, the back plate started warping when the center bolt was being tightened on the spinner. I need a backplate that is machined from al. stock not a cast.

Order the proper sized Carbon Fiber spinner from TBM,they work great and you will not have a problem.Bill will even drill the holes and cut out the spinner for what ever size prop you will need.

I guess the DA-85 is not as smooth as I thought, the angled aluminuim bracket at the corners of the firewall severed, off to HD for heavier al brackets for the firewall.

I never used the supplied angle brackets, always replaced with (larger) wider al. angle.

In the second round on the up line of the humptydump the motor quit, upon inspection the motor box had come apart, I am very lucky the motor did not depart the airframe. The motor box was beyond an overnight repair.

Got my 260 33% a few days ago. I will power it with a 3W 70i with canister. I planned to go with liion batteries with regulators, but have heard that this combo can`t be trusted..

Anyways, any pictures of the building progress?

Flying Skunks, how was Atlanta, I am waiting for a call back from TBM in reference to a new fuselage for the 260, the motor box is pretty bad, there several places with no glue, it must have been built on a Friday.

Atlanta was like nothing else, flying started at 7:00 am everyday and finished at 3:30-4:00am every morning. We are putting together a meet like that here in Fl. will be a blast.

boy, in this 33% size the extra that really looks great to me right now is the new dietrich 75.
i guess that powered with the da 85 this plane is a monster... if it flies anywhere near as well and their 42% it is a must have!
