Default H9 1/3 CAP - new batch from Chief

About to receive one of the new batch of H9 1/3 CAPs from Chief.
I am told there have been no changes from the first run(s). Had one of those and it went in. (spark plug loosened on ZDZ80 - ouch).

Curious what any have done for the wing attachment ?

I dont really like the wing tube set screw idea thru the top of the wing. Much prefer the 1/4-20 nylon hex head bolt thru the root rib from the inside of the fuse cavity that is used on the H9 Sukhoi. Have any taken this approach on the CAP ? I have seen the toilet seat bolts and clip and looks suitable as well. Just wondering if the root rib is strong enough or if additional reinforcement is needed for a blind nut or the side wall of the fuse ?? The Sukhoi has a substantial block epoxied into the inside fuse wall to receive the retaining bolt. The prime location would appear to be forward of the wing tube and aft of the locator pin.

thanks
mike

I'm using the recommended method, except I epoxied some wood half circles inside the wing tube, then tapped into those. No problems yet, and the screws don't vibrate out of the wood.

I like the idea of mounting from inside the fuselage, except for one thing. If you hit anything with the wing, the force of the wing flexing back will start breaking formers loose. It wouldn't take much of a hit - even bumping a fence while taxiing could do it.

I leave the wing tube in one wing, and don't have to remove the canopy to install the wings. One screw, as opposed to six. I hook up my aileron extensions through the hole in the fuse side at the wing root.

BeachHangar.

I also had a spark plug come loose on my ZDZ 80 / H9 Cap.
I shut the motor down and landed safely..

I use the same method for wing attachment as Aerobat66.
Tapped wood in the wing tube. No problems at all....
I can really tighten down on those bolts.

I also use the same method for the stab tubes.

Thanks for the info guys.

I also epoxied a hardwood half into the wing tube and put a tnut on the flat face of the crescent. Was tempted to epoxy a nylock nut on top of the tnut to ensure it didnt back out. I upped it to a 6-32 and it never came out. Was just looking for a way to avoid the bolt heads on the wing surface. Good point about weakening the fuse formers with wing contact. I also used the stock retention mechanism for the stab.

Just received shipping from confirmation from Chief - will arrive on Thurs 3/27.

thanks
mike

Wayne -

I loved my first one!! Was a huge loss when it went in.
I used 8411's on the first, and moved those to my Sukhoi. Thinking about Hitec digitals to save $$. I have some on other airframes and no problems.

Bad idea ??

Default Hi Mike!

Hey there, Mike! Erwin here (aka dork_blaster)

Thought that Su-31 looked familiar. A few persons have that "once bitten, twice shy" thing with Hitec, and you'll find a few of them in this forum.

As for me, I've got about 16 of them spread across a few of my planes, and you've seen me fly all of them (Giles, and 2 Ultimates). Never had a problem with any of them (yet).

I went with them to save $$ as well, but if money were no object, I'd be using Volz servos.

See ya at the field!

Erwin

Hey Erwin (aka dorkblaster)-

Thought you had Hitecs in some of your stuff. I do too.
Its just that when you up the ante, failure gets so much more expensive!! And I do enough dumb-thumb things on my own.

Still undecided at this pont. Doing taxes tonight, depends on the size of the return which way I go...

See ya in Fallbrook!
