We were actually talking about a weekly or bi-weekly 3D school at our field, during the week.

We currently have our novice flight school every Tuesday from 5pm during the season, which is fairly successful. We are looking at doing something similar for 3D and IMAC flyers. It's in discussion and we will need good pilots that are also reasonable teachers.

I'll see about August 18th availability. I'm pretty sure my wife will not let me oull that many days...

Steve, you should lay off the profiles and get going with this bird. I have been done for a week and waiting for final battery packs. Nice 3.5" CF spinner fit just right...

Plane will be on CG with the Lipo packs in the motor box. Have not taken AUW yet as I am consumed by my 35% project and the weather is sub-zero...

Jerome I here you. I assemble them in the order I buy them. The Extra is my winter project and I am in no hurry. I do have a the servos and radio gear for it in due time I will install them. I had some cool vinyl made for it (three layer colors ) with my own font. I am still not decided if i am going to use Spektrum or Futaba PCM. And after Sun flying and somebody removed my frequency card and putting it 39 instead of 40 . With a brand new plane to boot, I got real lucky it is still in one piece.

Thanks lenz, that's a nice set up with so little of the engine showing. More of mine will show since I intend to use the stock muffler on my DL-50.

Jerome did you set a plane up with Spektrum? Will I need to get a Smart Fly Power expander Sport or Pro. Or can I get buy with Just plugging two power inputs from the Smart Fly regulator to the AR 7000 DSM 2 RX I have. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

I've been getting caught up on reading the threads after returning from a little time out at sea (no internet) and am also the proud receiver of an Extra as a Christmas present. I had enough time to take the cursory look in the box to see that this was the best packaged ARF I've received, plus the added extras of the CF parts, ballcap, and wing, fuse, and tail feather covers made the cost even more worth the purchase. Hats off to PAU! Now for the really good news:

I've been working with Brad at BadBrad Graphics for the past week on a vinyl package for this bird and wanted to share it with those who still have fresh covvering. This will be the 3rd plane I've put his graphics on and know I won't be dissappointed.

I'll post pix of the plane once I get them on the surfaces (still in the mail) but here is the final drawing that got produced.

Those graphics are gonna look great! So glad you are happy with the kit! PAU is becoming known for their hardware "extras"! You should see the hardware kit that comes with their new Edges!!

Keep us posted on your progress and I definately want to see some pics when it is finished!

No need for a Power Expander.

I have two 2600 mah Lipos going through a SuperReg into the AR7000 (with remote antenna).

Use the safety switch on the SuperReg and you are done.

Ignition is separate using a third Lipo, SmartFly optical cutoff and a SmartFly ignition regulator.

I also use a SmartFly equalizer for the elevator servos. Since the servos are these Tower Hitec clones, they are not programmable.


The only thing I would change later on, is upgrade the Rx to the AR9000 when my new AR9100s arrive for Horizon...

Why not just use your subtrim and end points for each elevator half to synch them? No fancy device is needed. I do this on my 9C and you'd swear they locked together mechanically (speed and position are synched). I do match the linkage geometry before that though. I guess I forgot to mention that.

I stopped using the programmer on my 30%'rs when I realized the 9C setup worked perfectly after the linkage matching procedure (see DOD.com video).

Yarom: I'm going with the Batshare for the twin power setup into an AR7000 rx; no need for a Power Expander like you said.
Each ELE and AIL servo will be HiTec 5645's and each in its own dedicated channel, rudder will be the HiTec 5955 , throttle will be a HiTec 425BB, and smoke will fill out the rest. Smartfly cutoff for the ignition system with a total of 3 batteries at 2700 Ma each.

Going to try a DL-50 this time around. I have a DA-50R in the Yak and want to see the side by side comparisson. At $375, it was hard to pass it up with ignition, standoffs, muffler, and a can of Lawnboy tossed in. What is everyone propping their -50's with? I have a bunch of 22X8's from BME (love the laminated and painted tip look)

Stock gear or swap it with CF? As you can tell, I'm not trying to build super light, but more economical with lots of 'show' to it.
Any other suggestions or tricks before I start the project? I've made a few notes from the older build thread.

All: Thanks for the comments on the grapics, can't wait to see them in person and I WILL be sending before and after pix.

Finally got around to working up an instrument panel for my Extra. Found some photos on the net and sized them for my purposes. They will fit the bill for IMAC regs.

Just waiting on some 1.5" aluminum arms for the elevator and aileron servos and then it will pretty much be done.

Nice work on your instrument panels. Where can I find those and build up my own? I was going to go with the Virtual Cockpit kit but this looks about the same without the $55 cost. They look real sharp, but I think I'll keep the cost down this time around.

I found the images on Airliners.net Opened them up in photoshop, did a little cutting and resizing to the needed dimensions and then printed on photo paper. 3M77 on the back and stuck them on. If you have photoshop, I can send you the images. They aren't in the same league as the Virtual Cockpit kits, but then again it didn't cost me $55 either.

Lenz, I can print you off a set or send you the image files. They don't fit perfect mind you, but they are close enough. PM me your particulars and we can do a little horse trading.

BTW, it is a ZDZ 50RV

Anyone know how I can get the left slider switch on the side of the 9303 to operate my throttle kill or should I just use the gear switch to do it?

I have a set of DL 50 decals i bought sitting I sold the motor and decide to go with DA 50. Thanks I may hit Bad Brad for some checker or something else for my wing and tail area.
