Default RE: Extreme Flight 110" 100cc Yak 54 Build!

i recently have been thinking about it for my 80cc on my sdyak also, i use a menz 26-10 on there, someone told me that the mej even in same size gives more rpms, puts less load on the motor, which may help keep it cooler also, i did hear the mej spools slower but that unless you are a world top pilot you most likley wont notice it...that motor is new so letting it turn more would be nice for break in, it doenst need any more power in the plane, its a rocket as is, but if it helps the motor out it may be worth it, i drilled all my props the same so i can try them on both planes, for now the vess 26b has been the best on this yak, the menz 26-10 has been the best on that plane, it turned about 200 less than the vess on my 100cc, but about the same on the 80cc, which i thought was odd, but on the 80 it didnt seem like enough prop, it was like a slipping transmission coming out from a hover, kinda hard to descibe, the menz seems more efficient on that plane, im starting to really rip the vess on this one with the motor coming in nicely, so maybe trying a 26-10 again may be different now, if i get a mej i can try it on both, just trying to get over the $$ issue when i happy with the way both are performing...should i do it?? sometimes you got to say what the f&^k right, wasnt that in a movie a while back, haha

It's crazy how big of a difference a prop can make. I'm surprised but at this point I like a 25x12s Three blade the best on my Yak. It doesn't have the blast out from a hover that the 28x10 does. I've been very comfortable with the three blade 3Ding and it slows down very good. It just has a smooth, locked in feeling.

I would be interested to hear how your plane does with a Mej 27x10. I would think that ZDZ 100 should be able to swing it.

I honestly have never checked the cg, I have a very slight push when inverted. Next time I get out I'll check it and give you the number.

Lee

That's good enough for me, slight push while inverted is about where I'm at as well. My plane must not have as good a pilot!

i think i may get a 26-10 mej with the intent it will end up on my sdyak, but i can try it on here and see if i like it any better than the vess, if so i can either buy another one or see what numbers i get and if a 27-10 would still be okay, zdz does like higher rpms and smaller props, mike at rcs told me that, plus my throttle response with the 26b is wonderful, and plenty of pull out power imo, thats why ive been hesitant to mess with success, but im almost certain the mej will work well on the sd so it wont be a waste of money, i had emailed vess and told him what i was getting with the 26b and what he thought of going to 27, he said a 27a may give similar numbers, the B may drop up to 400 and it most likley would lose some throttle response, so i dont think i want to try that, guess the 1st step is to try a 26-10 mej and see what happens from there, here is a vid of my 26B in case you didnt see it a few pages back, about mid vid there is some good pull outs, i love the way its performing with this set up

Interesting info - have been meaning to try a 3-blader but was a little worried about the spool up, must get around to trying one. I expect it takes a little time to get used to how they feel, but I do find that the Mejzlick is quite loud and my field is pretty noise sensitive which is why I have changed to a 3W 28x10.

The Mej. 28x10 is without a doubt much more aggressive in a hover. It would bark pretty good even on uplines. The 25x12sx3 is super quiet. It feels close to the pull out of a Vess 27B. I dropped ~400 rpms going from the 28x10 to the 25x12S three blade. I wouldn't suggest it without pipes on a DA. I've had a couple occasions that I had to go full power and wait to climb out of a sinking torque roll, but it was OK. It pulls very strong once it gets moving. The Ailerons still have great authority hovering and torque rolls are very nice. It just lacks that quick jerk of the 28x10.

well i got done early today and took a trip to da, got me a mej 26-10, man it looks good on there, im planning to put it on the 80cc but i will try it on my 100 and see what numbers i get, they told me to expect about a 300 rpm drop going to the 27 from 26, mike with zdz told me not to get to 6 or below, these motors dont like it, so to be safe im figuring if i get at least 64-6500 i will get a 27-10, if not then i may just see how this one does and go from there, da did say they have a 27-10thin that may give more rpms if needed, im hoping to get out this weekend and try the 26 and see what happens, he said i will see a difference from the 26b in throttle response, the vess is the quickest according to them, but they only reccomend them for 3d, i mainly do 3d but have been trying to run the seuquence a few times latley, so the mej may end up being the way to stay...

after watching the video again i do think i need a bigger prop, i was ripping that vess right away in level flight, that vid the motor was still breaking in, it picked up even more since then....cant wait to try it out

No

I would like to try one to see how it does, but I probably already have $1K in different props already. I was dissapointed in the 27B. I don't think it was enough load for my Engine pipe combo. You might turn close to the same r's with your new style DA100L. I'm going to put the DA100L w/standard mufflers on my Python and compare it to the old style DA100 with Greeve pipes. I would still like to try a Mej. 27x10 and 26x12. I tried the 27x12TH and didn't like it. It tacked 200 rpms less than the 28x10, but the problem was it didn't want to slow down.

I've been running the Mejzlik 27x10th on my DA100 with muffs and it is a really good combo.

I haven't tried the 28B. I have the 28A and it's good for 3D but doesn't have the upline pull of the Mej 28x10 and Mej 25x12x3. The Vess 28A and Mej 28x10 turn close to the same rpms. I have heard the standard Mej. 27x10 and 28x10 turn very close to the same rpms, but I haven't tried it myself. I would be curious to how different they would feel in the air.

Camss69,

Have you compared the 27x10th to any other props? How loud is the 27x10th? The 27x12th is louder than I was expecting.

Really all I could compare it to would be the xoar 27x10 which I feel it easily out performs.

well i was just admiring my new snazy prop and i noticed its a 26-10N? i called and apparently they were out of the standard, he said there is only about 1mm difference and i wouldnt notice any difference from the standard, by eye it looks very close to the menz, is that different fromt he thin versions you guys were talking about? i plan to still run it this weekend and see what happens in a few flights, then i will put it on my 80cc in my sdyak regardless if i like it on this one or not, then will decide which way to go at that point, maybe on the 80 the N will make it spool quicker or something i dont know, anyway just curious if anyone had any specific info on the N and the thin, i cant find anything online yet, still looking...

I ***think**** the Narrow is how wide the blade is if you are looking at it from head on as it's mounted on the engine. The Thin is the thickness of the blade my thin has very thin blades compared to a regular 27x10 prop.

I have a Vess dealer that flies at my field and I'm going to try the Vess but have not done so yet.

If we have decent weather this weekend I'll probably try it, I get to try them for free since we fly together which is nice it's not very often you get to try before you buy.

I'll probably try both the B and the C and heck probably the A also.

It would have to be really good to make me happier than the 27x10th I'm running now, I'd venture to say that this is the best motor/muffler/prop combo I've ever had on any plane I've owned.

sweet, i knew the edge was coming and it looks better than i thought

i called da and asked about the prop, they say the N is narrower looking at the prop from the front and the thin is thinner from the side, supposidly the n doenst make much difference, they said when they first got them in they thought the n stood for new like an updated version, they couldnt see any difference, but then found out it was for narrow, the thin will give a little more rpms, so anyway my N should give a good indication for if i can move up to a 27 or not, hoping to get out this sunday

The thin weighs less, the motor revs much quicker and achieves higher RPM (not that that is a sign of better performance). I did not try a 27x10 regular Mej only the Xoar.

It just seems to work really well with the DA100, I've flown other 100's at the field with the regular Mej, on the Menz, flown them on Xoar, NX, flown them on the 28x10 Mej with muffs, but to me and others have commented at the field as well the 27x10th is the best prop we have found.

Not all those props were on the same engine or the same plane, some were my buddies planes but a couple of them are now running the thin after seeing it on my plane.

Sorry I can't be more specific like I said as far as my own plane goes I can only compare it to the Xoar.

My 100L yesterday was ripping it at about 3/4 throttle though, so if you have noise restrictions at your field you may want to run the regular.

no noise issue at my place

tried the mej 26-10 today, tached about the same as my 26B, 6700, it felt by hand like it was pulling less though, in flight i did notice it was a little slower to climb out, not enough to be disappointed or anything, just took some getting used to, my vess i could litterally cut the pwoer and let it "fall" cause it would stop instantly, this one needs a foot or two cushion it i let it drop too quick, by the 4th flight i was getting the hang of it, just need to stay on the power a bit more and let it come down slower, which is probably the better way to slide anyway cause you have more control coming down then letting it drop, i did like it through the sequence, was smoother throughout the rpm range, in fact i definetly noticed with my vess i had my canopy and cowl vibrate at a certain rpm everytime, in a hover working the throttle id hear it, that was gone, very smooth all the way so that was nice, i liked it enough to maybe try a 27-10, im guessing the same thing in a hover though as far as staying in the throttle more, maybe even more so with that one dont know, so the only draw back was the extra lag pulling out, pluses were smooth, consistant, and looks way cool, this prop will go on the 80cc in my sd this week

cams did you try a 27B?? thats a consideration of mine now as well, 27-10 mej or 27b vess, im leaning toward the mej just so i know first hand on my set up, i could always just use it for sequence and either get down and dirty with my other plane or switch back to the vess on this one, i may get one and if it doesnt work out i will see if anyone wants it at a bargain
