    RE: Extreme Flight 110

I read all the posts before starting my build. Not sure what that says about how much of a life I have, but this was my first 100 cc gasser. Here are some notes I made, hope it saves you some time:
-If you fly JR, use the spectrum AR9100 9 channel powersafe receiver and run Hitec 7955s at 7.4 volts (everywhere but rudder). You just need a regulator for the ignition and the throttle servo (if it is not a high voltage servo). That way you dont need smart fly. Post 259
-Engine standoffs- need 1 inch. Post 984
    - Add weight to right wingtip or mount batteries on right side so it stalls straight (1043)
    - Louver is not strong enough, glass it, at least around the holes 1171
    - MTW RE2 pipes are popular and have more power than cans. Need 50mm drop headers. 1211 Or can use KS 1060 pipes. Some people had trouble fitting cans.
-Post 1385 has great Hitec servo programmer instructions for the wing servos. Program all servos except the throttle. If you use radio subtrim, you lose throw.
-Use inner hole on elevator control horn or you wont be able to get enough throw 1418
-To keep wheels on, put fuel tubing or JB weld on axle 1529
-Graphics: B and E graphics, Kirby, Band E graphics, MT custom graphics. You will be out about $100.
    - I mounted my smoke tank right over the CG on a plywood plate. If you mount it next to the fuel tank the forward CG will limit your maneuvers.
-Buy your servo extensions at the end. The lengths recommended by EF were all wrong for me, it depends on where you mount your receiver etc.

    Hope this helps,
    David

Whew.  This is a big airplane.  *heh*

Got it all unboxed, sorted, checked, etc.  Took a while...the 9 hr drive to get it and bring it back was tiring.  *heh*

Everything's in great shape, and it was a pleasure meeting the EF guys today.  Really looking forward to the assembly and flying her!

Maiden flight today.  Went about as well as one can go.

Airplane really grooves...definitely capable of being much more precise than I am.  Seemed to be fairly happy in high alpha stuff, no bad wing rocking, no desire to drop a wing, etc.

Took a pretty fair amount of up elevator, despite a center-of-wingtube CG...not really sure of the cause for that, but didn't seem to negatively impact up or downlines, or inverted flight.  Again, I'm no competition pilot, and never will be, so it's entirely possible that it'd be 'out of whack" for a more skilled precision flyer...but for me, it's fine and dandy.

The 111 is, obviously, plenty of power, and was a nice happy 214 degrees at the manifold when we came down, and it's HOT today, so cooling air is fine.

All in all, definitely a keeper!

Glad to hear everything went well. Don't worry about the up elevator trim. Every 110 i've seen has some up elevator trim. It doesn't affect the way it flys.

    Do you have any pictures?

It certainly doesn't seem to bother this one, that's for sure. Again, maybe that's just because I'm not a skilled "precision" pilot, or maybe the airplane just doesn't notice...doesn't really matter, imo. It's a hoot to fly, and we got 3 more today, getting braver all the time.

No, no pictures yet. Honestly, not much reason...it's just plain black and yellow right now, doesn't even have the pilot in it. *heh*

Just thought I'd share this. Our club held their first annual Giant Scale Flyin this past Saturday. Among the 30-odd IMAA legal airplanes on hand, there was quite the collection of EF Yaks.

    =================

For the record, really getting comfortable with mine DotD now...had her right in the grass a few times Saturday, getting the kinks worked out, found a CG I like, etc.

What a spectacular airplane this bird is. I'm absolutely thrilled with it.

Hi long time after so many year I see you in a post, nice flying, this is my yak on dle 111 stock mufflers for the guy that is worry about noise level in the last post.
Sorry for the music but you will have a idea what noise level does with a dle111. this was my maiden fly, yes I know i was crazy, I just find out that did not have enof colling for the system and the reason for that baffle. LOL, but the plane still arround and new I will post the pictures with the baffle and the new graffics. Love this plane the best plane I own, after my edge 540 lanier, with a zdz100ngb2

Barry I know this is too late but this is the fix for those wheels that come off, you can do the flat spot on the axel, and lockttie and bla bla bla, this is what whe do to real aircrafts, we safety wire the nut's in the axel, how to do this with model airplanes, just easy in the end of the axel drill a little hole do what you want to install the wheel properly but in the end a whaser the side of the axel and wire or a cutter pin in the end, now this is bullet proof.

seemed like you were getting great performance, i got a mej28-10, seems a tad slower on throttle response, i wouldnt call it slugish, just not snappy, im only on 3rd gallon and its gotten better so for now im leaving it, someday i wouldnt mind trying a biela 27-10 though....
how do you like that color scheme compared to the old one? is it hard to see the bottom in flight?

    RE: Extreme Flight 110

    Dave,
I felt like the vess 27B and the mej 27x10 were perfect for my da100L I tried the 28b and was a little sluggish. It seem to pull very good, just that I liked the snappy response from the 27x10.... A good in between would be the biela 27x10
it loaded the motor slightly more than both the vess and mej. It wasn't sluggish like the 28B. It looked great being painted also.

The new color scheme is great sunny side up. Belly against a cloudy or gray sky is tough. I will be fixing that shortly with some graphics.

I felt like the red, white, black, silver scheme was the most visible scheme on a plane I've ever owned. I just wanted to do something a bit different.

    RE: Extreme Flight 110

thanks for your thoughts...i did initially have a 27B on mine too, for about 1-2 gallons, i will say i like the mej 28-10 a little better...my throttle is quick enough to do my low down tail slides and stuff, but in the past most of my stuff was set up with smaller props and snappy throttles like you said, latley ive been doing more imac and the mej 28-10 pulls great on uplines, im guessing the bilea 27-10 would too, we'll see, i just splurged on this mej not long ago so i cant justify buying another coslty prop just yet....but someday my curiosity will get the best of me im sure and i'll blow the wad again

    RE: Extreme Flight 110

Flew my EF 110" Yak yesterday for the first time since December.
I got 3 excellent flights and enjoyed it very much.
This is actually the first time I've flown it and the wheels stayed on. Makes it much easier to land, with wheels.
I had a great time with it. My engine is putting out some serious power in this airplane. I've got very fast vertical.
    It's running super.
Just an update for enquiring minds.

    Thanks
    Barry
