Default NEW Composite YAK 55 2.12m DA 50

Guys

Just released from Composite ARF is this sport scale YAK 55 SP for the DA 50.
I have a pre production kit I'm just working on now, as soon as my Zimmermann exhaust set up arrives I'll be testing it.

Sorry, the time difference is good sometimes!

My model under construction.
I'm using the JR 8411 in the tails for elevators, JR 8911 on Ailerons and JR 8715 on rudder with a JR 8231 on throttle. Powerbox Gemini switch with 2 x 1320 or 2100 2s Li-Pos (depends on C of G) DSM 9x (9303 for you guys) with a DA 50 and Zimmermann exhaust set, plus Biela 22 x 10 prop...

So, the wings and tails are a breeze, one long evening and they are done. I used JR 1.5" ali arms with ball links rather than clevis on the doubled arm.

Fuselage I'm working on, the fuselage has a tunnel moulded in but will take a slimline Pitts muffer if you like.
The tunnel forms a vertical front plate that you sandwich 1/8th ply either side of to make the bulkhead-this allows motor flexibility. Set up is close to zero/zero to allow you to shim to suit.
I'm working on that now as my early kit has no wood parts for that.

About time someone came out with a 50cc Yak 55. I do wish they would go to "forked" horns on the control surfaces so a ball link could be used between the legs. The single horns are a bit fragile. The same would work well on the larger 2.6m Yak. It wouldn't cost anymore than the expense of the horns.

At 83" span and 16.5 to 17.5 lbs., isn't it lacking a bit of flying surface for its weight?

I normally fly a 16lbs. PAU Extra that is 87" and the 17lbs. EF Yak that is 88" span, which seems to be considerable added sqare footage for a similar or lesser weight...

The CARF Extra seems much lighter with an 84" span...

Well you can't tell the wing area just from the wing span. I am annoyed that they don't announce the
wing area, because imho it is far more important spec than a wing span when considering performance and
wing loading.

For example Krill Katana 28% has wing span of 86,5" but the wing area is over 1800 sq.in!

If the c-arf yak has like 1550 sq.inch of wing area it will be a killer plane when under 18 lbs.

Many forget that Comp Arf often builds a wing quite differently from a wood framed plane. It's not just about wing area.

Guys

You cut out the fuse and the elevator servo tucks inside.

Area is massive, not sure what, but it's big. Those that have flown the prototype in Thailand say it flys light...

Well here are some answers to some questions I had. [:@]

Hello,

unfortunately there won’t be any additional color schemes on the 2.1m Yak in the near future. Only the 2 schemes on the website are available.

Custom paint schemes cannot be offered on the 2.1m planes, this can only be done on the big 3m planes.

kind regards,

Marc Froehn

Can you get different paint schemes in the UK ???? If so let me know. I have been waiting for this plane to come out only to be disappointed by the color schemes. Why cant they do one in the JR color or even the Redbull? Thanks Eric

Guys

Custom schemes are generally available on all models. Cost can be an issue as the work involved in masking and painting is huge-you also run into spares problems-you are unlikely to get spare parts painted.
The production facility works to the house designs and "slipping" in a one off is not straight forward. This is not some cottage industry producing a few planes each year, but I'm sure it can be done...if you want to pay.

Regards

Dave

I like the looks of your Zimmerman exhaust. Comp-Arf wed site shows only MTW. Can't find direct website for them. Do you know who handles them in the States?

Dave: Couple other things.

Comp-Arf web sites talks about a composite "motor dome". Is it removable like the 2.3 extra? How about a photo of it.

The website also indicates "more paints schemes in the near future" whatever that means.

About to pull the trigger but am disappointed with the current paint schemes.

Not sure who handles Zimmermann in the states, possibly no one as they speak little English.
I can ship to you if need.
I'm going to use a new Canister that is 50mm dia as it fits this model and the Extreme Flight models easier.
I'm in office and fuselage is at home, will photo over the weekend and post Monday.
No it's not like the 2.3, it's an L shaped one peice moulding with a flat vertical plate for the two 3mm firewalls to be glued either side of. The flat vertical element goes 90 degrees down the fuselage and this forms the tunnel/fuselage floor.

Go ahead, everyone who has seen my model says, Hey it looks nice is the flesh!
A few stickers and I think it will be fine

Not good shots as the black tunnel does not show.
Looking in the cockpit you can see the flat area with the U/C mounts this is the roof of the tunnel

Thank you for the photo's. Took awhile but I figured it out. Looks like the canopy installs like the typical bigger brothers. Cowl must install a little difference cause I saw where you cut the flange off.

Will be interesting to see how and where you install the ignition module, throttle servo, etc.
