Powerbox Smoke Pump System (Aircraft International)
Anyone who has one of these that is using a Futaba 9CAP radio would you please let me know, I am having some programming issues that I need to work out before this weekend. I want to have the smoke system go on and off with the flip of switch but also proportional with the use of the throttle channel...I am using a mix but for some reason I cannot get it to work right. I think I am overlooking something obvious. I am using a Futaba R149 reciever (9 Channel) and have channels 5 and 7 available. Any help would be great...thanks

On a different brand I found that the power up sequence had to be right or it would not arm. I needed to first turn on the receiver then the transmitter to get mine to work with the switch and slave. Have you checked your smoke pump manual to see if there is any mention of this for the powerbox?

I have the pump and 9CAP. I took me three mixes to get it to work. Still adjusting the fluid flow.
PROG.MIX4
MAS: THRO
SLV: AUX2
Link: ON
Trim: ON
SW: H
POSI: DOWN
RATE: -100% -100%
OFFSET: 100%
PROG.MIX5
MAS: VrB
SLV: AUX2
Link: ON
SW: H
RATE: +62%
PROG.MIX6
MAS: THRO
SLV: AUX2
Link: ON
SW: H
RATE: -100% -100
OFFSET: 100%
(THRO=>AUX2=>)
POS ā 1 -60%
2 -34%
3 +6%
4 +55%
5 +100%
MIX4 will allow the pump to run and reduce the maximum flow to about 4-5 oz per minute. It is more like On-Off instead of proportional.
MIX5 will allow you to lower the fluid flow. Iām shooting for 2-2.5 oz. per minute.
MIX6 will allow proportional to the THRO.
The pump works great. Just wish they had better instructions.
Also, my THRO is reversed so you may need to mix the opposite percentages in order for it to work if your THRO is NOR.
Another factor is where the E.Point is for the THRO. It will effect how the pump arms. I think the pump needs to be zero or below for a few seconds in order for the pump to arm.
I'm still messing with mine, but like I say it works and plugs into my PowerBox so I don't need additional batteries, etc.

What did you set your AUX channel to as far as swtich is concerned...is it NULL? Three mixes seems a tad bit extreme to get a smoke pump to work, I may just shelve mine for now and order up a sullivan or slimline...not sure yet.

I know this is a bit late. For reference to anybody that has this system look here:

Scroll down. Step-bystep directions for a Futaba 8U are shown, but you can get
the idea for your radio by copying the same techniques.

Hey Hooked, I think if you would of tried a Harris Smoke Pump you never would of had any problems, plus you would have saved an aditional 2 oz of wieght, just ask your buddy Dave Sullivan he will tell you what pump works best. Harris has a new pump out that plugs direct into your AUX channel and uses no auxillary battery,it only wieghs 2.2oz. In addition to that it is the most efficiant pump only drawing 25 to 40 mah for 6 minutes of smoke. rc3dflyr
