I bought an ARF Great Planes DR 1 ( I thought I would never buy an ARF but the price was right ) however it bugs me to have a monocoat ( shinny ) covering and plan to take it off and use solartex.
Rather than get involved with removing the monocoat and having to sand the frame for solartex has anyone ever heard of putting fabric covering on top of film? It seems to me it would save a lot of work if its possible. What do you guys think?

Hanger Rat,
Before you add all of that extra weight, try buffing the surface to remove the gloss. I would try 3M brand green scotchbrite (green and red, color indicates abrasiveness, green the milder).
If that does not satisfy you, try aluminum or steel wool.
Good luck with your finish.
