I have a 4 year old zdz 80 (not the super) that came of a 30% SD Yak . It was 19.5 pounds and flew great for 4 years till it got shot down. So I'm thinking
ZDZ80
5955 on rudder and 5985 on everything else.
lipos w/mpi switch reg combo into single receiver
If i could keep it under 20 lbs. it would be a fun 3d plane.

I agree, the old ZDZ 80 RV is a great motor! I have one and it would be real nice on that plane with just a light setup, Pitt's muffler and all. I like it

Many people have been wishing for a release like this for a long time, it's gonna be awesome and I can't wait to get mine.

It's on my list too, like the scheme and the Carden design, going to "backorder" it next week. Got a brand new DA Fitty that would work great on that thing

This is a good looking plane. Pretty expensive compared to others in this class though.

I just spent an entire day putting on control horns, hinges and sealing the gaps on my EFRC Yak.
For that extra $50.00 the Carden is a winner.
We're assuming its gonna fly great, but you know what happens when we assume.

I have owned several ZDZ 80's over the years, it is a great engine.

Dirty little secret is this: a ZDZ 80 on a pitts muffler weighs LESS than a 50cc on a cannister, with a similar price and a significant power increase (ES Composites pipe would weigh less of course).

Low 6k with an MSC 26x10, or 6500+ with the old square-tip Bambula 26x10 = about 50# of thrust at my (former) altitude, 4300'. My engines on 26" props turned within 200-400 rpm of my Dad's DA 100 on the same prop, and weigh over 2# less.

I "back ordered" mine yesterday . I am hoping to power it with a DL 50 on a KS pipe. I look forward to discussing the build with all of you.

I changed my mind, I am going to buy a Brillelli 366 GT. Should be lolts of power. At a closer look this plane seems too big for the 50cc. I don't know? I have seen video of a 88" 17.5# EF Yak on the 366 GT and it rocked! I guess we will find out. Look forward to more discussion.

Well I got mine today, looks awesome. I am going to be using Hitec 5955 all around and I have finally picked a motor, Evo/MVVs 58. Should be more than enough power. I look forward to getting this thread going now that they are out on the shelves.

I hope this thread is for the 89" Carden Yak from Hangar 9. I just ordered one and I will pick it up next Wednesday. I needed something to replace my 27% Extra 260 which I flew a little toooo fast last week and got some aileron and rudder flutter...just prior to impact the only controls I had were throttle, elevator, smoke and ignition...none of which help when the plane rolls knife edge and the ailerons and rudder servos have sheared.

I am going to use my DA50 and TME smart smoker with a Pitts smoke muffler. I am planning on using 5 JR8611A servos at 6 Volts on a Spektrum receiver.

Any other suggestions? Does anyone have one flying? If so how much time?

I briefly had one. My opinion was: it was a pretty good flyer, but very weak structuraly. I WOULD NOT ever own another one. Even though its a H-9 product, replacement parts were every hard to come by. I took 6 months to get a replacement canopy.

What was weak on it? Usually Cardens are pretty strong.

Do not confuse this plane with a Carden, because it's not. Its a Carden design, but built by H-9. Overall quality was poor. Early versions have a problem with weak attachment points to the canopy. Air pressure builds up in the cannister tunnel, (if not covered) and will blow the canopy off. Later versions were of stronger wood, and better joints.

ah thank you all, I'd bet I have one of the earlier versions, I will not be using a canaster therefore I have covered over the holes in the bottom I also plan to cover all holes in the motor box as much as possible to prevent air flow into the fuse.

thats exactly what you need to do, regardless of the version you have. Take a close look at all the glue joints as well, especially in the canopy hatch area.

What do you think is the best 50cc yak out there???? I am going to get one, just trying to figure which. The Pilot yak looks good so does the EF yak. What do you think?

I built for a friend a 100 cc of one of these he is a 3-D pro at first I was saying easy man but after a hundred or more flights extreme 3-D its still fling 1.5 years I don't say anything cause I know its going to hold up, so if the 50cc is as good as the 100cc and if my cardens ever goes in I'd consider one of these
