hi all,
well i have the evo 58 sitting on the bench waiting for horizon uk to recieve my plane into the uk.

no bother tho as i am in the middle of my house move later this week so the yak can take its time!!!

karmann, How are you gonna put your a123 cells direct into your rx??
have you considered what connectors to use on the a123's as they kick out a lot of power and you dont want to choke them by using single rx connections.....

also what rx you using?
my plan was to fit a spektrum ar 9100 rx with 2 x 2300mah a123 packs from puffin models. simple.

bear in mind tho that i am running jr 8711's all round on this baby!!!

Paully,

Good luck on your move and congrats for your new home!

I'm coverting Black and Decker VPX batteries. I had read where one A123 battery pack was being used along with 3 switches for both RX and ignition. I would love to try that, but after the first flights, it looks like I'll need some weight up front for now.

I'm going to have one battery pack per switch (MPI HD). I have a Futaba 9C and will be using a PCM RX.

By single RX connections did you mean that both batteries plug in one slot of the RX?

Yeah, I'll have an extra slot or Y into something so all the battery juice is distributed between two ports on the RX.

Had thought of using a couple of Berg RX that I use in my profiles, but thought it better to use a PCM for a gasser.

My 3ft servo extensions showed up today, wow that is fast service, I just ordered them yesterday. The spinner they sent is accidently a standard. I wanted a Parabolic, so they are sending me one, should be here tommorrow or the next day. Those guys are super cool.

I am going to weigh it all again, I was a bit surprised (very happy) that it looked like I'll be just over 16lbs. That seems almost 3/4 lbs lighter than expected.

I'm not even going to say it will be ready this weekend, don't want to jinx myself. Just methodically putting it together, but this weekend would be so cool.

Hey all, just hoping that some of you guys that have the plane finished could take some pictures of how you arranged the electronics in the fuse.

Hey all, I just installed my Evo 58 in my plane. Looks good but when I look directly at the cowel the prop hub is slightly off to the right. I am thinking that this has something to do with the fact that the cowel is mounted straight and the right thrust in the firewall? Any one out there with some feedback.

Actually, there is no built in right thrust on this airframe that I could see. My plane came with thrust wedges to mount under the engine stand offs. I cut mine down to a sliver of the originals. The firewall is nicely set up with laser cut cross hairs and an off set carby hole though. Did your model come with the two wedge shaped blocks?

Sorry Kfoster. I did not intend my reply to sound that way.[sm=red_smile.gif] I'm sure if you got the engine mounted, then you know what's going on.
I noticed that the firewall has no thrust offset too. I meant to say that the laser cut cross hairs on the firewall made it easy to line up my engine mount template. [sm=biggrin.gif]

So, how much does your engine appear to be off?

I chomping the bit to get mine in the air. Its tires are getting flat spots waiting for me to get some time off and finish it.

Here's a little more of my personal opinion of this ARF. I finally had the chance to maiden mine this weekend. I have to say, I was more than pleased. I've got and Evolution 58GX2, pitts muffler, Mejilik 22x12 3 blade carbon prob, and Hitec 5955TG's all around. What a machine!! Ground handling was fantastic and the flying characteristics are even better. Three clicks of down elevator and one of left aileron and it was flying true. It will fly IMAC routines with ease. But...halfway through it's maiden, the cowl broke loose from the cowl ring. It looks like whoever was working at the plant gluing the rings to the cowls must have been late for a date because there was a serious lack of glue. I've had fit and finish gripes with this plane. I expect more from a $700 ARF. Having said that, I'll deal with these nuiances to have a plane that flies as well as this one.

Hey no problem Karmann, no offence taken. I did exanctly what you did, I shaved the wedges down and that fixed the problem. Rookie mistake.

My 25% wildhare meet an untimely end yesterday. Long story but lets just say that when you reverse your throttle servo REDO YOUR FAILSAFE. Luckly nothing was hurt except the airframe itself when it went full throttle into a run up stand and thank god it didnt hurt someone.

I have been plaining on building a carden yak over the winter for next spring but things just changed lol. My buddy owns the LHS and has been wanting me to build this plane since it came in and is offering me everything I need at cost to help me get it going. Anyway to the point. Since I wasnt plaining on building this yet money is deffenatly an issue, even with the discount its still gonna be a costly project. I think I have settled on a DL50 since even with the discount its hard to beat the DL price. I could get a zenoah g62 for cheaper then the DL but I think the DL is a better fit. The big holdback atm is servos though. My 25% has 4 HS-5625MG (131 oz-in), a HS-5245MG on throttle and a HS-5985MG (172 oz-in) for the rudder. I am running an a123 pack so the servos have no shortage of power and should never have a volt sag issue, they might even be putting out more torque then the #s speced at 6v since they run slightly higher. I know the 5625s are a bit light on torque compared to the 180 listed in the manual but I have a couple friends that have been flying a long time that think they will be enough for the ailerons and elevator esp since the rudder is only calling for 180. I could buy some cirrus 200 lbs torque servos for cheap but I dont really trust them in something this expensive. The servos have really turned into a deal breaker as I just cant swing $500 for a new set of servos right now ontop of the price of the airframe and engine. If I cant use what I have or go with the cirrus I will prolly need to stick to a 25% model for now [:@] I guess the only other option would be to try and sell the servos I have now and put it twards the new set Would love to hear what you guys think.

Just my opinion, but cheap servos on a 17 pound "unlimited" will probably end in a more costly disaster.Buy three and get the tail wired, then save a bit and buy 2 for the wings.

80 each bucks should get you a good servo if you buy 5 and make some calls and check around

I agree and trust me the last thing I wanna do right now is loose another model to somthing stupid like not using strong enough servos.

I dug around somemore though and found some interesting things. The 25% wildhare only calls for 70 oz-in on elev and wings and 130 oz/in on rudder. The 50cc size wildhares are calling for 120 oz/in on elev and wings and 180 on rudder (When I picked the servos I did it was with the intent of upgrading to this model after getting my giant scale feet wet with the 25%). The hanger 9 33% Sukhoi is calling for the exact same 180 all around as the carden yak so it seems that 180 on wings and elev of the carden might be a bit of an overkill or the 33% manual is grossly under specing the servos needed for it.

I think the Carden Yak is physically noticably larger with bigger controls than Wildhare 50cc
Also Pilot control plays a big factor. If you are NOT planning on Walls and Blenders and other radical moves, but flying a more scale sequence, you may get away with less servos, but usually pilots will end up testing the planes more and more and find point of failure, often the servo or linkage.

Those servos should last you for many seasons.
A simple solution to drive them with adequate power, is using the A123 2300 packs, they deliver around 6 volts and supply lots of power on demand.Servos are super fast and powerful on this battery.
You probably have a flightpack already, just thought I'd mention it.
I just started using the A123's with a simple and very functional Cellpro charger, and must say its one of the best buys in technology I have made in a loong time.
How was your Yak for quality?
2 were sold in my neighborhood, and both had lots of (small) issues with finish.
It was the first run,I asume that things will get better as production smoothes out.

I do have a flight pack already but it just happens to be a 2300 a123 I love them and wouldn't think of using anything else! I already had the 1010C thunderpower charger for my foamy lipos, just had to get the data cable to update the software to charge the a123 packs.

After seeing the CF tail wheel for this Yak at my local field I bought one for my PAU Edge. Wow for $25 this is a nice tail wheel. It only weighs 1.1 ounces with all mounting hardware and wheel. It looks a little fragile but it is NOT. This is a great tail wheel if anybody wants one for their 30% plane.
