Default CYCLONE 88" EXTRA 330l WITH RCGF 62CC ENGINE QUICK BUILD

Hey guys as I like to fly big panes without spending the big $$$... I found this 88" Extra 330L online and I really liked the color scheme. This is the same extra that Peak Model sales but with a different scheme. Dawghouse sells this plane also. It comes with a great hardware package and DA and 3W templates. It also has rubber insulators for the cowling screws so that the vibrations don't damage it. The power house for this airframe will be the Aerovate 62cc engine (RCGF Mfg) $364.99 There are a few distributors I know of Henry here in the States www.zrcgf.com, Aussiesteve from down under www.ydmodels.com.au , and Driesbabe in africa at www.pilzers.net They are great engines with great customer service and warranties! Here is the thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_78..._1/key_/tm.htm The servos will be the Power HD 9150's digitals with 220oz of torque, $33.00 each from Hobby City or Troybuilt Models (same ones). I'm late with starting this, I've been working on the plane for a day now.

Here are a few stock photos...

OK, here is the plane at my home... I didn't get any box shots because I had to take it out of the box to get it to my house! the USPS Ladys said that they couldn't deliver it because it was to big for them to handle![:@] It was a sunday so I went to check the hours they were open and just went ahead and got the plane....

Oh, yeah... the extra stars on the wings and the tail don't come with the plane I added those... Just one set of the Coverite Graphics from the LHS did the trick. It does come with a set of graphics that you have to cut out and apply ( I did to the Extra 330L on the wings and on the turtle deck.)

Pics...

I have fitted the motor and the YD-WQ 65 Canister System that I got from ZRCGF ($95.00)... At first it was a tight fit and the flex header was to long, so I had to push the Can back a few inches into the fuse for a proper fit. I also had to cut the flex header pipe down a tad bit. The supplied 2" stand-offs were to long so I used some 20mm ones I had laying around.

After that I had to clean it up a bit, I had to build a box over the can that was sticking into the fuse. I lined it with foil ( a tip from a friend of mine 6packobeer on here) and also make a new exit for the air to come out.

That DA-50 template came in handy after all!!

Here are some pics of my choke system and the engine... (work still in progress [8D]) I have ball links for the throttle and choke but its a tight fit in there so I don't know if I'm going to use them.

OK, you know the Red, White, and Blue Pilot X that Extreme flight sales? Well last season 6pack had an extra one and gave it to me, it didn't match the colors of this extra so I had to give it a makeover![8D]

I also had to fit the canopy because it does not come pre-installed. Not a big deal to me, as I like to do little more when it comes to these arf's. It comes with a pre installed Dash panel with decals, but I also got an extra one from 6pack from the extreme flight line. It was originally gray so I stripped it and put yellow Monokote on it. I made a floor also, out of some thick poster board I had laying around.

This is the finished product... (almost) I still have to trim a little of the bottom of the canopy, just didn't feel like it at the time....

Ohh... you also have the option to screw the canopy on or glue it, I did both, I like the look with the screws...

I also got all the control surfaces hinged... they come pre-installed but not glued! I like it this way, I trust myself gluing them in better than someone else...

The fit was perfect, and the ones for the horizontal stabs were already cut to size so they wont hit the stab tube. Nice![8D]

Ok, thats it for today... hopefully I can get some more done tomorrow! My EMS Express shipment from Hobby City just shipped out to the U.S. today so I have to wait for it to do most of the avionics...

servos (Power HD) $165.00
smoke system ( Sullivan) $75.03 now.. I paid $69.00
extentions 1.50 x2
Power switches $3.50 x2
smoke tank $1.50 x2

OH yeah... The plane out of the box with everything wieghed about 9.1lbs +or- an oz or 2 (my unorthodox way of holding everything on the little scale)

Nice T3beatz where did you get the plane from. Also is the bolt pattern for the engine center for the prop. I cant wait to see what rpm you get on the engine and all the other specks with this plane.

Hey Fooped,

Sorry, I don't quite understand your question about the bolt pattern.

Oh yeah, I forgot all about making a Template for this engine. Got caught up in the build!

Looks good TJ, man that can is HUGE, we can't tap the flex section of your header for smoke so it will have to be right up by the exhaust port. I think the best thing would be to angle the smoke inlet down the header toward the flex section. This way you wont blow smoke oil into your Cylinder head.

Also that Extreme flight Pilot and Dash will make your plane 3D better.

I must be stating my qusetion wrong. The templet for the bolt pattern I have but will the prop be in the center of bolt pattern. I know that the 45 and the 26 is not so I laid out the temp to make this happen on those two engines. Hope this makes sence.

I have seen TJ fly an earlier version of the RCGF 62 cc engine and it made monster power with a 24 inch prop and stock exhaust. He had it on a 88 inch lanier Edge and it threw that thing around like a rag doll. RCGF engines make great power and I am a bit on a DA snob so it pisses me off b/c they are also much less expensive.

Correction to 6pack on an earlyer post, it was the RCGF 65cc engine that I had before.

OK, I didn't post any pictures of the hardware that comes with the plane, or the manual. The manual is very generic, it helps you to build the whole series of these planes (8 total) Everything is pretty strait forward if you have build any giant scale plane before. If anything special applies to your plane then it will have it posted. The hardware is very stout and I will be using 95% of it if not all. The control rods are short and strong 4-40 size, good direct linkage, also the pull pull cable will do the job well, it is coated in the plastic like protective stuff to keep the wires together...

I also got some landing gear fairings from Extreme flight, Carden also sells them but they cost duble the price... Extreme flight price $15.00 The outlet part of them that slips over the landing gear was to small so I had to cut it a tad in order for them to go all the way up to the fuse. I then put the supplied black rubber over them and put some glow fuel tubing over the lower part that I cut. To get them to stay on I had to stack a cuple peices of wood and glue it to the under part of the gear and then put a screw through it...

Here are some pics, the I threw everything on to give you all an idea of what it looks like now...

Looks good man, thats a cool way to put on those farings. EF tells us to put them on w/ glue which gets messy and makes them hard to remove if you need to take the gear off for repairs. I like your way better.

How are the elevator servos set up ? Are they in the Fuse or in the Elevator halves ?

They are in the Elevator Halves. I have installed the ignition module, switch, the battery, throttle servo and the throttle links (all engine components). I also installed the pull, pull system I just used a servo I had laying around to get the fit right until I get the Power HD ones in. I will post pictures later because I have to be at work soon.

I just uploaded some pics...

Sorry for the late reply... yeah dawghouse has a very summed up description of the planes... and there are no pics posted. Also the description of this plane is the same as the extra 260 listed. The site just needs to be updated. Anyways, they are still nice planes.
