RE: TBM 50cc 30% Magic Hand Yak 54 Build Thread
Okay I ordered my carbon wing tube, and a few other accesories today. I am realy close to the maiden, all the servo programing is done, batteries are placed, canister is pretty much fully installed, all that is left is some wire placement, fuel line install, and final CG. So mabey next week. I still have yet to strengthen the landing gear but i am planning to do it. I also need to finish the install on the top piece of the fire wall, i am going to make it so i can unbolt it to get to my batteries, throttle servo, etc. I will post some pictures of my canister installation tomorow. Dryverman have you got some flying weather yet?

you cant see it in the pictures but it is inside the fire wall opposite the ignition module for the engine. i also mounted the 5.2v reg next to it. I then have a fiber opitic cable run to the other module that plugs into the reciever, which is mounted by the wing tube. What cut-off are you using?

i am using the smart fly cut off too. i do have a switch controlling mine so when i am not flying i can turn it off, i think it is easier than having to unplug it every time but my batteries are also difficult to unplug where they are. You are getting close, do you have any clue where you are going to come out on weight?

We're still waiting for the snow to melt up here [&o]....going to be
late April before we can do much flying.
Decided to build a Citabria from an old Midwest kit I have had for
years to keep myself occupied till we can fly, it's almost done...
I'm recentlly retired and have the time to build now.
BTW, any guys in your club in their 60's that like to fly 3D? I'm not that
good, but enjoy trying new stuff...good exercise for this ole farts brain...

We have a few in our club that fly 3D, all are very good pilots. Sorry to hear that the snow is still there.

Cam, did you do the cutouts by the can yourself or did it come that way. If you did them did you use a template or anything???

thank you dryverman, there will be no video.... as far as i know. i will have many pictures though.
Flyboy, are you talking about the opening on the bottom of the plane near the end of the tunnel, if so i just cut away the covering there, the wood was already cut like that. i think they intended it to be cut away for a can install.

Well the maiden flight was today!! It went great with no problems, in total I flew 6 times. Power is awesome, CG is right on the recomended mark and did great, a few clicks of down and right. The plane floated very well and stalls were very predictable. Landing speed was great, floats right in. Elevator is very sensitive so increased expo quite a bit. So far not done triming, programing, and mixing, it was a very productive day. I would like to thank Dennis and Joe, this day would not have been this succesful without your help.

Our field should be dry enough in a couple of weeks. Then it will
be a couple more weeks before the Yak is test flown, as I need to
get the "rust" off. (Been a long winter) Got 7 other planes ready to go.
I noticed in one of your photos the landing gear is flexing quite a bit...
think it will be strong enough? Our field is grass and a little rough in places.
