I just took mine up on rudder and elevator to 60% from 55%. Will probably go to 57 or 58%. 60% on ailerons is nice. These are high rates of course. But my high rates are 3D, and my low rates are high rates. 25 to 30 % on low rates. some people might find these expo's touchy.

Just came back from the field. I spent 1 whole tank of fuel doing low harriers around the field with nothing but rudder turns. I was having a blast. It doesn't wing rock at all in harriers, even in the rudder turn. I was giving 0 aileron for correction. Blenders into inverted flat spins are some of the best I have seen. It is now officially my favorite plane.

Put the 20x8 Menz on, and it had alot more power than the 21A Vess. Was turning the Menz 20x8 @ 7300 to 7400rpm. So I will be ordering some Vess 20A's. Will probably get more power with the Vess.

do you guys think it will be OK if I move my Fuel Tank up just behind the Engine Wall ??
this is because I'm using a non-pumpedGlow engine,
85% of the planes I have seen(large& small) have their tanks just behind the Engine Wall,
keep in mind we are not going to 3D this plane, just do the basics..

I think it would be just fine. The main advantage to having the fuel tank back by the wing tube is that you have alot less CG variation between full and low fuel. You could get a Perry pump if you wanted to, they work great, and you could keep your tank on the platform, and not have to modify a mount for it.

A couple of points on some of the electronics I'm using, if anyone is interested.

The Smartfly power plus system has turned out to be a very nice addition. Being able to use two lower capacity lipo's for the receiver instead of a large one has saved a good deal of weight, and adds the security that if one battery fails, it is isolated from the system while the good battery continues to power receiver. It also draws evenly from each battery, they staythe same voltage at all times. The filtered and regulated voltage to the receiver (5volts), and the filtered regulated voltage to the servo's (6volts) makes for the smoothest, and most accuratecontrol surface movement I have ever had.No jumps jitters, or noises. The built in optical ignition kill is also a very convenient safe addition.

The new 7900 coreless series Hitec servo's are awesome. I have never had servo's that didnt have at least a little slop in them. These have none! Centering, andtravelsare exactly where you setthem without fail, everytime, no variation. Again, I have never had servo's this expensive before (or this nice), but now I realize they are 110% worth it.

ORIGINAL: Jimeni

Got the elevators finished. Nothing to note there. Pretty standard installation. All electronics in, and plane is balanced. Had to put all batteries up front to get it in balance. Ended up 1/8" past recommended, but didnt want to move my batteries any farther forward. I always like more tail heavy than recommended anyways. 1/8 on this plane will be nothing. I'm sure I'll move it back more too. Dry weight is 13lbs 3 oz. Not too bad considering I'm running a dual lipo set up for the receiver and servo's with the smartfly power system. And I did not even try to save weight. I'm sure I can knock at least a pound off if I need to. I'll get some more pics outside tomorrow when I fire her up for the 1st time. The balance picture is hands off too!! Just dont breath All I have left to do before flying is rig flight controls.

Where did you balance point end up at on your plane? I am trying to get mine to balance at the recommended 4.25 inches and it's still tail heavy even with all the batteries up front.

I'm 1/8" past recommended, it fly's great there. Hands off inverted, and upright level flight. You could probably go 1/4" past safely.

I got them at Lowe's Hardware. You get a 6 pack for $3.49 USD. You can order them online here http://cableorganizer.com/wire-wrap/alot cheaper than getting them from a hobby supplier.

Just to let you guys know. I am currently working on a review for this aircraft. We are hoping to get a video for it this weekend. If we get it, I should have the review done this weekend. I will post a link here.

If anyone is still thinking about getting one and would like to see more pics, or have some questions, just ask.

Here is the review. This is my first review, so any input would be appreciated. I believe I can still edit it, if needed.

Here is the video. This is my third season flying, so my skill level is definately holding this plane back, but not for long

looking good jimeni. looks like you are getting pretty confident with it already. it's nice not having a plane that wing rocks and or snaps out isn't it. now that i have gone large gas i don't know if i could ever go glow again.

What can I say Jimeni? You sure look like the 'cock-of-the-walk' with that Edge to me. You look very, very comfortable and I would say that you are on the verge of expanding your envelope even more with the Edge. It surely looks like the plane to take ones skills to the next level.

Not only do you make the plane look good, the color scheme and the overall apperance of the plane in the air just confirms what I and apparently several others thought about the model. And one would never know this was your first review. What a great job!

I don't know about everyone else that has visited this forum and made comments and asked questions, but I'm looking forward to more videos of the Edge.

Just remember what I've been saying for several years now, "EXPERIENCE; She is a hard teacher. She always gives the test first, and the lesson some time later," although you might be about to destroy that idea!!LOL!

John, my email to you was returnedsaying your email address was invalid. So I will reply here.

"Thanks for putting up the Cermark Edge review and build thread. I received my Edge yesterday. Beautiful plane. My canopy will not go down far enough to put the bolts in. Minor issue I'm sure. Where did you get the servo arms? I usually fabricate a wheel for the rudder servo. We'll see on this one. I must use a drill press to drill the control horn bolts. There's no way I would trust myself free-hand drilling them. Any other wisdom to pass along?"

I had to open up the holes for the canopy bolts a little as well. I put rubber backed washers under the screws. You will also want to pull the covering back enough to put thin CA around the holes so the canopy bolts dont sink into the wood.

The servo arms are MPI from Troybuilt models. You will not want to use a wheel on this rudder. Would have to be huge to get your throws. The holes are already drilled and threaded.

This is a fairly straight forward build. The issues I encountered were all posted in this thread.

Jimeni,

Thanks for the reply. Forgot to change my RCUemail as Alltel is now Windstream. Ifound some servo arms (similar) at Chief Aircraft. Iassume that the offsets on the rudder arms are for Ackerman. You probably have the rudder horn pivots right on the center line. You don't need quite as big a wheel as you get constant movement as it turns. With arms, the more the servo turns, the less linear movement (in the direction you want) and more rotational movement (useless) you get. I'll do a little thinking on this.

Ineed to figure out the length of servo arms Ineed then get the control horn bolt holes drilled. The rest looks to be fairly routine.

Thanks again for the effort to put this thread and the review up.

John VB

I used a 3" arm on the rudder, and 1.25" everywhere else.

I am convinced that I would like to get one of these. I am an electric only flier and am wondering about thw width behind the firewall to fit 2 5s packs... would anyone be able to measure for me - Jimeni - I noticed there are two formers on each side of your tank - and that is the width I am trying to figure out. Also if anyone has an inkling about the width of the firewall that would also be a LARGEhelp.

Thanks - Drew

The distance between the two formers at the fuel tank is 4.8". The firewall is 3.5" high x 4.8" wide. (that is the total flat area of firewall inside the lip).
