Cermark SS-77 28% Edge 540 & SPE 43 Build thread
Just got the Cermark SS-77 28% Edge 540 & SPE 43 combo, and most of the components. Starting a build thread to show the plane, and components that I am using. This is a phenominal looking aircraft. The pictures on the site, do not do it justice. I got a reconditioned SPE 43cc, and it looks brand new, as does all the items that came with. It comes with everything the new engines have, including warranty in the USA. Comes double boxed, and very well packed. Have not really started building yet, hoping to start tonight. See the edge here http://www.cermark.com/products/Cerm...5-Edge540.html Anyways, here are some of the parts I'm using.
Smartfly Power System sport plus. This system is amazing. It is very simple to use. Has reliability of using 2, lower capacity lipo's, and isolates a battery if a failure in one of the cells occurs. Built in optical ignition kill. You really need to read up on the optical ignition kill if you are not familiar with it. I have it on two planes now, and absolutely love it. No choke servo needed, saves weight, and is alot safer. The unit supplies regulated and filtered 5 volts to your reciever, and 6 volts to your servos . I'm also using Smartfly fail safe pin switch, that is so simple, and cool its unreal, and a Smartfly 5.2 volt ignition regulator. Not only is this system extremely functional, and a must have, its also big bling for the plane. I had glanced at the system several times, but didnt really pay much attention until the Toledo show. Now I'm a proud owner LOL. I did hook it up to play last night. My Hitec 5625's that are hooked straight into my Spektrum receiver seem to hum or buzz a little at times. Plugged into the power system there was no noise what so ever. Very nice. This system seems to be a nice investment to protect your aircraft, and definately increase system performance. http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Po...ersystems.html
Servos. two Hitec 7955TG's, one on each aileron. I know they are alot of torque, but these ailerons are pretty big. I figure since they are such nice servo's, they can grow with me into larger planes also. Hitec 225MG on throttle. Not decided on rudder and elevator servos yet. Should know this week. http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/list
Cermark also has new color coded heavy duty servo extensions, picked some of those also. Two 18", and two 24", and a Super DSC switch for ignition.
Using two 1800mah 7.4 volt lipo's for RX, and one 1350mah 7.4 for ignition, with the 5.2v reg.
Everyone that has one, please jump in with comments, and people with questions, ask away.

RE: Cermark SS-77 28% Edge 540 & SPE 43 Build thread
I just finished mine a few days ago and can't say enough about how good the plane looks. Like you I have a SPE 43 in mine but did not get to maiden it this weekend due to engine problems. Engine would run but got no response out of the high/low end needle adjustments. Took the carb apart last night and found that the tip on the low end needle was broken off in the carb.
Good luck with yours.

All right Jimeni! I have one of these same models as well and will be keeping up with your build thread, and look forward to anything you have to say about the construction process, the instructions and flying this bad boy!
However for some strange reason something keeps going through my head about how, "Experience is a hard teacher. She always gives the test first, and the lesson some time later!" Also, something about the fact that, "There isn't enough time to experience everything yourself!

While I'm thinking about it. When hinging the horizontal stabilizers, you will find that the inboard hinge on each stab is cut to allow for the stab tube receptacle. they come already cut, but I had to sand a little more from each one to get them in far enough so the pivot point would be inline with the hinge line. This isnt an issue, just giving a heads up. All of the rest of the hinge holes seem to be perfect.

Sorry Jimeni, I have to clarify that "preowned" engines from CERMARK do not carry the same warranty as new SPE, 3MM nor MLD 2 year warranty. It is 1 year US Warranty for all preowned SPE, 3MM and MLD engines that has gone through CERMARK's reconditioning and inspections. Not all preowned engiens are boxed, most are wrapped with bubble wrapped. However we do make certain that all of the preowned engines are fitted with accessories (as if they are new engines). We are confident that they will perform well, becuase all would have already been tested by our engine techs.

Happened on this thread by accident.
I have been attempting to purchase this plane for over a year now from the UK distributor for CERMARK without success and found myself assuming that it was no longer made (previous one bought was the blue scheme).
Since I see a CERMARK rep perhaps you could help clarify any misunderstanding.
If you would prefer please PM me, so that we can exchange emails.

Everything is hinged, and got the landing gear on. A couple of notes, most is standard practice, but if your not familiar, hope it helps.
Main gear, Dont tighten either wheel collar until after you get the wheel pants on, or you will just have to loosen them again to get the wheel pants on and wheels centered.
Tail wheel, Make sure you run your screws into the wood to imprint the thread pattern, then remove screws, and harden the threads with thin CA. If you put two slight bends in the tail wheel turning wire, it will eliminate the binding you get at full rudder deflection. 1 slight bend towards rudder coming out if the tail wheel post collar, and 1 slight bend between collar and threaded stud in rudder to level the wire, see pic.
The more I get together on this plane the more Ilike it. Very easy build if you have already built several arfs. The manual is a vague reference at best, but has excellent pictures. But it also points out some of the DO NOT do's.
Cant wait to fly it, just need to get elevator and rudder servo's then I have all components.

Yeah its been a while.
My Funtana is also long gone, I looked at the new Funtana at Toledo but decided some thing different like this Edge 540 is the way to go.
Its got nice lines and would appear to be built in a similar manner very light and with a good size wing area.
I,m going to inquire today at my LHS about getting one from Cermark.
see ya

Found a wing bag that is almost a custom fit for this airplane, made by Hobby Pak. Heavy duty outer covering, and soft scratch free inner lining. The bag is very well padded, with a padded panel divider, and wing tube compartment. This is my second hobby Pak wing bag. You cant beat the quality, and they are alot less than the other ones. You can see them here http://www.hobby-pak.com/indexmain.htm It's the WBD01A.

Going to go with Hitec HS-7985MG servo's on the rudder, and elevators. Good torque and speed. Should be awesome. http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HS-7985MG

I concur. FedX dropped mine off earlier this week. Like you this is my second Hobby Pak wing bag and the quality/price can not be beat.

RE: Cermark SS-77 28% Edge 540 & SPE 43 Build thread
Have not been able to get much done the past few days, but got the wings done, and had to put up a new plane rack, my others are full And now I have somewhere to hang my wingbags.
Some notes on the wings if anyone is interested. I did not like the way the control horn screws looked on top of the ailerons, so I countersunk the hole for a flush surface. If you try to tighten it flush, you will crush the wood. I used Hangar 9 Ultra trim (3.25" roll) cub yellow to patch over the screw head, and seal the aileron gaps. The cub yellow turns out to be a good match. I'll get more creative with the patch later, a stripe or something. I also used heatshrink on the servo extensions. Never was a fan of tying a string on them, and a connector lock will bounce arouind. I also decided to put some 30 min epoxy in the holes with the control horns, just to give the wood a little extra strength.
