Dietrich Extra 260 Build
Just finished my Dietrich extra 260 install. Waiting on the spinner to come, so I can balance for the 1st flight.
This is my first 50cc gasser and everything went pretty well. Dietrich makes a very fine airplane and it seems like every detail has been covered. The hardware package was very complete, but I did replace the servo arms with SWB. This made the pull pull system a little more tricky to hook up with the stock hardware
Equipment includes:
- DA 50R
- Hitec 7955's all around
- Hitec mini for choke servo
- 1.5 SWB servo arms
- 4" SWB offset rudder control servo arm
- 2 X 1500 Longgo flight pack and 1 X 2000 ignition pack
- MPI regulators
- Smartfly switches
- Smartfly optical ignition
- JR 9 channel reciever with 2 remote recievers
- Dubro ball links on all servos
- CF control links on throttle and choke
- DA fueling tab
- 24 oz dubro tank
Take a look at what I got.

I forgot to add, that the batteries were strapped to the wing tube just for initial startup of the motor, after I balance it, they'll be moved.

I havent balanced yet, but i have 2 1500 mah longgo and 1 2000 mah longgo for ignition. I do not know the exact specs on weight. The guys at Dietrich said for 3D to fly with the CG just in front of the center of the wing tube. For the 1st couple flights i'll probably go at the leading edge of the wing tube and then move it back as i feel comfortable. I'll post once i get the final balance point.

all loks good with your set up but only one little thing i did notice is either the throttle or choke servo outer cable [ black colour ] should have some type of brace support so if the cable should get abit sticky , the whole lot doesnt move like a banana shape if you know what i mean by this. just being cautious.

Thanks for the tip, but both my throttle and choke are carbon fiber rod. So therefore no inner and outter tube thing. I gave up on using them because they are clumbsy. The CF rod has a much more positive throw and seems to be working really well.

The wire is the stuff that came with the hardware in the plane kit. They are coated as well. Also they are completely isolated from the servo with the plastic ball links, so I do not think any interference can occur.

You'll really like the plane, the Dietrich 260 is my first gasser also. They fly very well. Only real complaint is that I'm constantly retacking the covering, especially end sections of the wings. Mine came in at 16.4 pounds and am using recommended CG. My low rates are set to fly IMAC style manuvers but will still do some 3D, just not as pretty as high rates. My high rates are toned down a bit, but still makes me a bit nervous when switch over, as you can really toss it around. But as with all, it can also get away from you really quick if get behind the curve.
Used SWB arms as well except on the rudder, where I used a unihub setup. I found the throttle setup to be a bit problematic, ended up using a long metal control arm with piece of flat carbon thread-wrapped and CA'd to it, ball links on both ends. Works like a charm, no flex and very spot-on. Used pull-pull setup from Don's Hobby, though they are pretty much the same material. Am using an AR7000 w/DX7 and couldn't be happier with the performance and reliability. Keep an eye on the hinging. After about 80 or so flights, my rudder hinges separated, fortunately I noticed it on the ground. Also, strongly suggest keeping an eye on canopy screws. They are poorly implemented and will likely strip in short order. I used epoxy, small ply and some lock type nuts to fix. Made small tabs same shape as canopy tabs, drilled to match hole alignment, then mounted lock-nut to the outside of the ply tab, then epoxied tab to the outside portion of canopy tabs. (outside meaning the side of the canopy tab facing the gas tank). Hasn't been an issue since. Can take a pic if that makes no sense.
Just shy of 200 flights on this bird. Its my go-to-plane. Could not have asked for a better transition-to-gas product. Not flawless, no plane is. But I can say with confidence that if I bury this one, I'll replace it with another Dietrich without blinking. Hope you have as much fun with yours as I'm having with mine!
