Slipstream 30cc MXS
OK guys, I have the 30cc MXS prototype from Slipstream. At a glance the airplane looks nice. Very light ! Build with pics coming soon! Using a shiny new DL30, not sure of servos yet. I am looking to keep this as 'value' build so nothing extravagant, suggestion welcome. At 72" it is IMAA legal!

RE: Slipstream 30cc MXS
Got a couple days of flying the 72", 30cc Slipstream MXS. I set it up with a fairly robust motor/battery combo. The weight reflects it also! At 11 lbs I was not too optimistic, but this airframe rocks !! My set up weighs exactly one pound more than a DLE 30 with a full tank of fuel. Control authority is positive, harriers, upright and inverted are solid. Rolls are axial, snaps start and stop NOW!
Look for this airplane at SEFF with Justin Owen on the sticks. Mark, his pit man/Dad and Grayson Hobby are working to develop a lighter electric power system.
At 72" this airplane is IMAA legal Giant Scale.

RE: Slipstream 30cc MXS
Looking to receive them around the end of February. Sorry, no vid. I got the prototype, did a quick evaluation ( liked it) and ordered a bunch of them. As well as it flies at 11lbs, it will be even better at 9.5/10 lbs! Red Aero RC

the MX-S is not in my hangar... it looks sweet though... wouldn't mind having one :-) I checked Chief and they don't have the manual on there site. Do you know of anyone else who might have it?

No but I want one, DL-30 powered would be cool.
Hmmmm, if they would send me one I would do a manual for free......!!! Can't be any worse than the 50cc and up's.

RE: Slipstream 30cc MXS
I've officially joined the ranks of Slipstream 30cc MXS owners. Purchased the plane from Aztec Aeromodels and it is a beauty.
Question for anyone who can help. I have a MT-35 engine for the plane and need your suggestions on how to mount it. The engine uses rail mounts and I'm not quite sure how to determine the exact location on firewall for mounts.
If you have pics of a gas engine install on this plane that would help.
Thanks

Look again, the manual is available for download on Chief's website.

It presents the firewall as having the mounting holes predrilled and they are not. The only measurements provided are the distance from the firewall to the spinner back plate.

Buy an appropriate rail mount, dubro or whatever will fit. Do some measuring and determine where on the mount the engine should sit so you have adequate firewall to spinner clearance. Drill the holes in the mount, mount the engine and then just place the engine on the firewall and position the cowl. Move the engine around until the spinner is centered, then remove the cowl and drill the mounting holes in the firewall.

Not trying to be terse in my response to your post, but I have the manual and it is useless for this part of the assembly.

RE: Slipstream 30cc MXS
I just bought one yesterday from Great Hobbies in Edmonton, Alberta and they had it on sale for 339.00 . I ordered the DLE 30 online for 249.00 and a number of servos, accessories and other nice to have parts.
Assembly/ preperation started tonight. I went over the glued oints with thinned epoxy and painted all the woodwork that was accessible, with a mix of thick and thin BalsaRite. I had one former located just behind the wing that was cracked, so I made a doubler and sandwiched the faulty piece in Birch.
Something I noticed is that the model apears to be set up for gas, vs. glow. Nice!
Unlike the real MX2, this one has no carbon fiber parts. It is mainly constrcted from 1/8 and 3/16 lite ply, with glued joints. The covering seems to be good quality and was very nice compared to alot of models where you need to spend hours chasing wrinkles with a covering iron.
The instruction manual is fairly useless though and just gives enough details to get you flying. It has the control throws and c of g data, but is written in low grade chinglish...
It would be nice to see some actual photos of real builds in the manual, as well as some options like a smoke system and perhaps some understandable language.
It appears as though SlipStream is poised to take off though and the airplane has the potential to fly well and look good while boring holes in the sky!

RE: Slipstream 30cc MXS
Heads up to all Slipstream 30cc MXS owners. I strongly encourage you to strengthen the motor box with additional tri-stock and paint the entire box with thinned epoxy.
Why you may ask??
Well you don't want to experience running the engine up and then having it pull away from the plane. Upon inspection I found very little glue was used on the existing structure. Lucky for me it occurred on the ground and before I reached full throttle.
Easy repair, but it would have been catastrophic if it occurred in flight.
