Hi 49dimes,

That is a great build. I am going to take some tips from it.

1. What is the back beading you use in the cowl & canopy cut out ?
2. Why have you added a wooden ring in front of the cowl behind the spinner ?

Regards

Sandy Jain

Sandy Jain,

The material used to line the cut outs and canopy is called " U-TRIM " by FOURMOST PRODUCTS. It comes in 3 foot lengths large or small size.
You can find it at most hobby shops or on line. They also make a flange material for lining windows in aircraft cabins. It's neat stuff to "TRICK OUT" cowelings and canopies. I added the ring to add 1.5 oz of weight and to close the gap between the cowl and back plate of spinner. I used the supplied 2.5" stand offs with the DLE 55 and it left a 1/2" gap. This helps my cause in balance and C.G. I am almost finished with the model and hope to have it flying in a week or two. I will try to get some video posted as well. From what I have seen this plane is a great performer at 16 to 17 pounds. My dry weight is 16lbs 5oz.

This Holiday weekend if the weather holds. Saw your yak 55 sp. It looks like you are more comfortable doing rolling harriers with it than the edge.
Have you had to tweek the needles on your 55 ? I'm gona use 93 octane 32:1 for break in with Penzoil air cooled 2 cycle. The guys in my club are running
coleman white gas with klotz synthetic 50:1 after break in with these DLE motors. Burns really clean and leaves little if any residue. The power is right up there!
Hope to basic first flight for trim and engine tune. Will try some mild 3D. I cant harrier roll yet but everything else is game as long as the engine keeps running.
I personally like doing the wall to a hover down on the deck. I will test the wing tube![>:]

Thanx 49Dimes,

I think what you are reffering to is "Fourmost U Trim small 1/8" . Saw it at tower. Let me see if I can get it.

Great to see that your model is ready to fly - waiting for your videos. I completed mine last month and have been enjoying it since.
I also use a DLE55 with supplied stand offs - and also have the 1/2" gap. But I have mounted a smoke pump in the front in the exhaust tunnel and with the 2nd fuel tank for the smoke fluid, have no CG issues. With all this my AUW is about 17 Lbs.

1 think you may want to check is the elevator pushrod and hinge linkage. Try and get it straight i.e. with the elevator level the pushrod shoud be parallel to the surface and the hinge & arm @ 90*.
Keep the throws less than 20* for the maiden - this baby is a mover with the DLE !!
Have fun and safe landing..

Sandy and T3;

Turnigy HV767 x5 (430oz .11 speed)
Hightec HS225 throt & choke
DLE55 23x8 Xoar Slimline pitts True Turn 4" Ultimate
Shure Flight Sport Plus w/optic ignition kill
Two Turnigy 2S Li Po 2200 mah 20C.
Futaba 10 CAP 2.4 GHZ R6014 Reciever
2000 NiMh for ignition

Sandy... Control linkages are poised purposely for extreme throw. The Turnigy servos at 430oz can easily handle the load
I set triple rates with 80% expo on all flight control in 3d mode. 50% expo on normal/low rates for precision.
The servos are awsome and 51.99 for members at Hobby King. Cant beat it!
I also mix aileron and elevator to raise ailerons w/ up elevator and down ailerons w/ down elevator. This allows
Awsome Elevators and Water Falls.

You did a great repair job. I dont think harrier landings are going to be this planes strong point. Not that I do harrier landings. Soft 3 points seem to be this planes
landing style with its light wing loading. I hate to think of a crash due to such light construction. I bet it will fold up faster than a 2 dollar suit case. I like your gas tank
too. Might have to try your tank set up. I know the necks of the stock tanks can split if you over torque the stopper. I think I bought the last V2 edge of the production run.

Still in the hanger with this one. Stripped out plastic servo wheel that supplied aluminum arm attaches to. Got SWB arms coming to the rescue.

It looks great man but are you using plastic gear servos ? I would strongly caution you here, this plane will easily strip those gears in flight. Its a 100% no questions asked guaranteed way to crash very very soon. Please please upgrade to Metal gear servos if you dont its gonna cost you the plane, I guarantee it. Sorry to be a downer, just trying to help out. If your looking for good metal gear servos on the cheap check out Power HD, Tj runs them, if they can stand up to his abuse then they gotta be good.

Good Luck

Dan

>>> Oh sorry I just saw you post what servos you had, your good. Oh well I will leave the post up maybe someone can use the advice

The plane looks great 49dimes! Yeah, I wouldn't recommend attaching the aluminum arms to the nylon ones that come with the servos. One hard snap and there stripped! Always use metal to metal on that spline on 25% and up 3D planes especially if you plan on flying hard.

Sandy,T-3,Crash...

The graffics look great! Is this all done on your PC and printer?

Ya, I should have gone with my gut and saved myself some heart ache. As you all said; At least it did not happen in the air. At my age it would of been a heart-attack not heart ache! Did get to run the DLE 55 and like you all stated this is going to be a rocket. I got a new HD camera so once all the bugs are worked out video will follow.

Landing gear redesign pics!!! So much stronger, and easily accessible than the stupid stock setup. CF gear is from GraphTech (QQ Yak 88" gear w/ forward rake) Enjoy.

Your repair looks good and strong. If you dont mind me asking ; What caused the rip out? I feel the need to go in and beef up this area!

Dead stick #4 on this stupid engine, which tore the stock gear out not making it back to the runway. I wanted to change the design anyway, so it was the perfect opportunity. I wont go into details but you can read about the engine issues on FG. The gear worked awesome Sunday night when I tried it!

Hi Egan, I 2nd that. Dead Stick on DLE55 is pretty unheard of on our field as well.

Haha at our field we have 8 of 8 DLE 55's that have deadsticked, I kid you not. I've flown at a couple other fields and same story. People here hate them... lol. To really hit it home, I watched a 35% bird go in and was a total write-off Wed. night from a low end deadstick 111, and my good buddy totalled off his 30% Pilot Yak on a 55 deadstick in a 20ft hover thursday night at our field this week... I've also never talked to DLE 111 owner who hasn't had a deadstick either. . Good times!

On that note, after changing the metering height of my carb main jet arm, it made no difference. That was the last resort as I've exhausted over 20+ things/setups/etc and had WAY too many gas guys and engine guru's try and fix the engine. Enough was enough, so I threw on a brand new carb and new ignition on thursday after the 5th deadstick. Whalla! I haven't had a single deadstick or engine skip at all with the new gear!

I'll be flying in my first IMAC competition tomorrow with this bird! Wish me luck!

Eganwp something has got to be wrong with you alls DLE's if they are dead-sticking... The needles must not be tuned right at all for 8 out of 8 to just quit like that. You all must be using the stock plugs that come with the engines. It must be a Canadian thing! I would look into the tuning a little more.

Sandy, did you get the other Decals I sent?
