RE: Aeroworks 100cc Edge Build Thread
and we continue....
Time to get those mufflers installed. I have actually never used these, I went right to cans but they are smoke tapped and will do the job.
Also mounted the throttle servo... you can put it where you like so you can get a straight shot.
**Remember to tape your carb while cutting so nothing gets inside of it

time to move onto the ignition, battery and the Smart-Fly ignition kill. I will be using a 1500 cell NiMH pack... last upwards of 2 hours flight time so there is no need for anything bigger.
I have been using ignition kills from Smart-Fly for several years.. never know when you will need to kill the engine remotely. Never had one fail so I have had no need to try other products out there.

OK, now we move on to plumbing and mounting the fuel tank...
You will notice AW provides a lot of zip ties and velcro straps + gromets to help complete the kit. Put a barb on the clunk line.. I was half asleep and soldered it to the vent line the first time
It's also a good idea to wrap the vent line back to make a trap. This will save fuel on downlines and when carrying around your plane.
**DO NOT FORGET to zip tie and use fuel barbs on the carb line (clunk) both inside and outside of the tank.

RE: Aeroworks 100cc Edge Build Thread
Well unfortunately my Camera broke when I was trying to take pictures of cutting the cowl but I did make it to the feel around 2pm I have a couple pics on my buddy's camera from the flights but I didn't have the decals on yet. I am heading to the field early to make some setup changes and put the vinyl on.
First thoughts... She feels well!
I have only flown once since October and that was 2 short flights in Jan before I got too cold to brave the weather anymore. I must admit I have a layer of rust on me pretty thick
First flight went well, I landed pretty quickly to increase the rudder. Unfortunately I was in such a hurry to get to the field that I forgot the CG / Suggested Rates sheets and just did a quick and dirty setup. It is too nose heavy right now so I am going to fix that this morning and add some upthrust.
Anyhow, it tracks very well, I put a multi point rough mix for KE of 1,2,4% for rudder to KE. It will need roughly the same for Rudder to Aileron which will change when I fix the CG today. I only got 2 flights in because I had last minute setup things to do at the field.
KE and HAKE flew well and like most Edges you can really get that nose up in HAKE.
Snaps - I had a little problem with over rotating my snaps, I think a lot of this will fix itself once I fine tune today and make some changes.
Harriers - stable, I had some issues with my throttle curve and rusty fingers but it did lock in pretty good, little bit of wing rock which from my experiences is common on an Edge. Nothing to worry about at all though, once you get used to the plane you will be able to keep it in it's sweet spot and it basically go away. One thing I did notice is how stable it was when you really brought the nose up, you could walk it along at a 75 degree angle if you wanted.
Rollers - Lots of control and ailerons respond well. I couldn't slow them down as much as I would like to but it was more my fingers not working properly
Tumbles - I did a few blenders and could get it flatten out with all the elvator, but it is still too nose heavy for my tastes. I actually didn't do many tumbles with it yet.
Hovering - very controllable, rudder is super effective. I had her DOD on the first flight and found no issues with hovering.
I think that's about all I can say for now, I only got 2 14 min flights on it so tonight I will have more input. We already have 16mph gusts so I am hoping it doesnt get too windy today.
I will post pics and some more tonight. Will also be trying to get some video today so I would have that soon as well.

RE: Aeroworks 100cc Edge Build Thread
Couple teaser pics.....
I moved my battery back but couldn't move the other back as far due to power lead distance. It looks like I may still need to move other things around since it's still pretty nose heavy. That being said the changes I make def. made a difference 3D wise, got abit more looked in and settled down in the harriers. The biggest issue was the wind, it was winder than forcasted and the gusts were cross and frequent.
I did shoot some video, I will pull that and try and get it up sooner than later.
One special note... I went to the field early today to put on the graphics package and I have to say, is it ever sharp! It got lots of compliments today and the pictures just dont do it justice. With the metalic black paint and all the black lettering is actually carbon fiber looking it really looks great.
One other note, I am pretty sure I am having some blowback with one 8711 on the rudder. This is a big tail rudder for a 35%er so it may be something to think about. I have another here so I might add that this week.

RE: Aeroworks 100cc Edge Build Thread
Well I finally had some time last night to work on a quick video.
Last weekend was 35-50mph winds so I was grounded. This is taken from my 4th flight on the plane. Once I get my CG a little closer and my throttle curve fixed I will be a happy camper. I am also adding a 2nd 8711 before this weekend of flying. It's really fading on KE loops and high speed KE passes.
Enjoy!

In the pictures in post #22 you have stacked the tail wheel undercarriage blades the wrong way around.

LOL.. ya I noticed actually once it was at the field and stood on it's wheels for the first time.
Thats what happens when you try and do things on 5 hours sleep and start way too early in the morning before coffee! I fixed it but I haven't taken new pictures yet.

RE: Aeroworks 100cc Edge Build Thread
Thanks,
I am putting a 2nd rudder servo in it tomorrow and am going to head out to a gorgeous field that is about 3 hours from here on Sat to hang with some IMAC buddies. I am going to do some trimming, fix the CG, and differential, and then I will be shooting some more video.

RE: Aeroworks 100cc Edge Build Thread
Well it's been a little while.
Ended up with 3 unflyable weekends in a row between 25-50mph winds and rain This has been the worse flying year so far in the last 6 years.
Needless to say when I saw it was going to be 92 and 10-15 yesterday I was able to sneek out of work and get 2 flights in. I did shoot some video of one flight and got some nice pics!

RE: Aeroworks 100cc Edge Build Thread
Here is an updated video from a flight this weekend. Had a flight pack go bad so I only got 2 flights the whole weekend...
I uploaded it to youtube and of course they muted the sound so I also put it on FG since it's edited to the music. http://www.flying.giants.com/gallery...hp?photo=63307 I am trying to improve my editing skills a bit. It's not as fancy as I wanted but after 4 hours of watching how to vids and 3 of editing I had enough of the computer for 1 day

it edits it... remove the . and you will find it
Here is another 2min video from last wednesday. I was just messing around on my 1st flight of the night and a buddy has his phone out. Touched the rudder in an inverted harrier and pulled it out touching the rudder, stab, wingtip, and tailwheel
