Default SCALE STATIC PROPS

Hello gents:

I am in need of a scale static P-40B prop. Or at the very least one of the blades.
Where do you guys find the info to make your own?
I have been looking online and can't seem to come up with anything.
I would also be interested in purchasing one or again a blade.
I would really like to have one at about 42-54 " diameter if anyone knows how to get one?
I know, asking a lot!!!!

Let me know if you have some info.

Thanks,

Kevin

That'd be a real spendy proposition since Solo props are designed to be flown, not just static.

As for the OP's question; sorry but I haven't a clue for something that big. This question might better be answered in the WarBird forum....

Kevin,
Dave Platt wrote an article on how to carve a static prop long ago. Don't know if it's available but he describes the process in one of his excellent videos.
You'll need front and side views of the blade scaled to your model. Glue to a balsa block and bandsaw the shape in both planes. The rest is carving to shape
which sounds difficult but in fact is easy and enjoyable. After sealing and sanding the single blade can then be molded in silicone rubber and cast in a quick-setting urethane resin.
Here are a few shots of two I've done (my first attempts). I put it on an aluminum rod to locate the pin when the mold was made.

Best of luck,
Paul

Thank-you for all of your replies.
I have talked to Wayne at soloprops, he can supply up to 32" dia. Not quite large enough but I could use one for a template.
Don't want to go the ultralight direction as I am looking for a scale prop but thanks for the reply.
Paul: your work looks absolutely incredible. I would buy that just to hang on the wall. What are you putting that on? I would like to see some pics.
Part of my dilemma is finding drawings of the prop so that I can carve one. I may have to get a smaller one and use it as a reference.

Thanks Kevin.
The prop was for a friends' Macchi fighter, I only made the patterns of the blade as well
as the hub. He did the molds and assembled/painted the final product you see.
Also, there is a blade for my brothers' FW-190 in progress.

The Macchi is a work of art!

Paul

Thank-you for the link. I have sent them an email.

Paul, once again I must congratulate you on your workManship!

Maybe you should get into the prop making business!!

I know someone who would want a P-40B static prop for your first customer!!

Can we see more pics of the Macchi and the Fw-190?

I've had this prop for a number of years. It's for my 25% Travel Air Mystery Ship.

I'll see if I can find the source?
