May I ask where you purchased it from?

Sure, I found this plane on EBAY. I entered ESM Bonanza, expecting to find the usual 469.00 price tag from AFPROS, but got sticker shock (good shock) when the plane was only 299.00

Hi Gunner I can see why you snapped it up at $299 its a nice plane. Thanks for mentioning to me over on the Hostetler thread. Would you please shoot me a picture of your nose retract mount? I think I got all the dots connected on the Bud Caddell design I purchased. I pulled a copy of the TF Bonanza manual and the pictures helped. I was making some wrong assumptions and I think the ESM design will prove me out. Will you be posting a video of the maiden?

Default ESM Bonanza

Finally have my new Bonanza on her feet. This plane has taken longer than expected to assemble. I'll try to post a vid of the maiden.

FlyerInOKC, do you still want pics of my nose gear retract mount. Sorry for the absence, I've been away for work since Feb!

Thanks...I think the ARF version looks as good as the TF kit, certainly less building! This would be a great candidate for bashing this plane into a super scale Bonanza. With some mods a person could definitely turn this plane into a masterpiece.

FlyerInOKC, I'll shoot some pics of the nose gear mount later today.

I have been meaning to ask is their much difference other than tail between the ESM A36 and the T35 "V" tail? What wheels are you using?

OKC Flyer...have some pics for you:

First pic I have is from the TF Bonanza nose gear mount. As you can see from the pics: the design is pretty basic: a couple plywood pieces coming out from the firewall with come wood skirts added for structural strength.Click image for larger version

Second I have a pic of the nose gear mount from my (nearly) complete ESM Bonanza:Click image for larger version

Here you can see I'm going to use some basic foam wheels I had laying around the shop for my first few flights. I like to use foam wheels on a new plane until I can determine sink rates on landing with and w/o flaps.Click image for larger version

Here's another pic of the ESM Bonanza A36 wheels, this shot shows the gear installation pretty good:Click image for larger version

As far as the difference between the two airplanes, other than look, and from what I've heard from other pilots, there isn't much difference. Both planes handle well in the air. Some people like the look of the V tail over a conventional look of the A 36. I'm an A 36 guy all the way. Something about the look of the A 36 just screams class and style in a great design. If I were to win the lottery I'd spend my time designing low wing civilian models from 48 inch ws to 100 and market an entire line of civilian ARF and kit planes. Then I could die a happy man!!!

The V tail had the nickname "Doctor Killer" because it was a handful when attempting to fly on instruments in heavy clouds by VFR pilots. The problem really wasn't the airplane but the loose nut holding the yoke. The projected performance improvement due to the weight savings of the "V" tail never really materialized so they went to a conventional tail.

Thanks for the pictures Gunner! I have to modify the nose gear mount on my Caddell A 36 and I wanted more than one example to go by. It was originally designed for Rohm retracts mounted at a weird angle I am using a NIB Robart TF Bonanza set.

One thing you may want to consider is the nose gear point of attachment angle axis. You can see in yellow, the angle the NG rests when fully extended. I believe this allows for full deflection of the oleo strut and doesn't impart loads on the mounting plate. Red line is where I see a lot of models mounting their NG struts. I realize sometimes the plans call for mounting this way but I'd always look to a different mounting option if the original mounting looks flimsy.

Anyone know where I can get scale wheels and tires for my ESM Bonanza? I need rims that will fit a 5.5 mm axle shaft on top flite Bonanza retracts.

Looking for 3.5 inch mains and 2.75 inch nose wheel.

Thanks

Robert

I have one of these a guy gave me with a saito 120 mounted on its side with the engine sticking out. Looks horrible for a scale plane. How are you guys mounting gas engines in them? Pics please

My A36 will have a Glow engine mounted on it's side (Inverted is not an option due to the nose gear.) with a J'TEC or Top Flite muffler. Bud Caddell had a Webra -61 on the prototype and he had plenty of power even running it a little rich. I will probably go with a modern .75 or .90 engine. Here is a picture of Bud's prototype.

I think the way to put big CC gas motor is with extension pipe and exhaust can behind the firewall.
