ECOMRC first look out of the box!

RE: ECOMRC first look out of the box!
Ordered a 195 during TBM's black friday sale. Arrived with a hole the size of your fist on the box top. Lucky for me nothing was damaged inside. I'm planning on powering it with a OS FT-300 twin. Has anyone assembled one of these using the supplied control horns? I'm thinking of replacing them with dubro large scale 6/32 bolt control horn set.

Hey Col I built the TBM Stinson I used the conrol horns supplied they Epoxy in place very secure . I used Dubro push rods The China junk snaps when you Z bend them as you will find out. Good luck with the build Im saving for one of these myself. What power are you using I think I DLE 35 would be ideal.

I have a OS FT-300 Gemini 50cc twin 4-stroke. The slots for the fiberglass control horns are a 1/2" wide. Way too wide for the ball clevis. Instead of recutting the slots, I'm going to plug them with plywood and use Dubro #913 HD adj control horns. The 913's are great. Just drill a 5/32 hole and install the bolt & self adj hardware and your good to go.

Hey, guys, I just bought a ECOMRC Cessna 195 from TroyBuilt, and it arrived today. Holy cow!! No one bothered to warn me that the box it comes in is the size of a refrigerator! This thing is COLOSSAL!! I had to double check and take some careful measurements of my truck bed and canopy, to see if this thing will fit back there without hanging out the rear window. The fuselage will just fit diagonally if I take the horizontal stabs off first. I have a brand-new PTE36 for it. Is that really enough engine to haul this momma, do ya think? I hope so!
Funny, I have a quarter-scale H9 Cub, with a 105" wingspan, and it doesn't seem anywhere near as large as this 107" Cessna. I suppose I should remember that the full-scale Cub is a lot smaller than a full-scale Cessna 195, even though they have similar wingspans. Even so, I wasn't expecting a model of these proportions. I will have to set it up in the family room, when it comes time to install the wings and do rigging checks. Too big for my little cubby hole of a building room!
I'll start a thread, when this project comes up on the boards. It's number three right now behind two other model airplane projects, so maybe another couple of months yet.

Jeremytrain757,
Yeah, they're saying the finished Cessna weighs just this side of 20 pounds, so I'm not expecting long verticals or anything. I just want a big cruiser. I anticipate long, scale-like take-offs and slow straightline passes overhead, with maybe a roll or two after climbing to altitude. I suppose I will need to add some lead to the front end next to that lightweight little engine. I could put my DLE55 in it, but it's busy doing tow duty in another plane. Is what is.
How are you liking that PTE36? I notice they are not in stock right now at TroyBuilt. Hope that's a good sign, not a bad one.

Hey Sigman Im sitting here getting ready to pull the trigger my self. The only thing that stopped me before was the$180 shipping charge, guess TBM likes to make money on shipping also.

"As per typical Chinese instruction manuals which tend to be lacking in information and especially CG information, this manual gave two CG locations on the same picture 20mm apart. Looking at the cord and contour of the wing the thickest part of the wing is at the 170mm point which happens to be in the center of the wing tube. That is where I set the CG. With a 3200mah LIFE battery mounted up under the forward part of the fuse it balanced perfectly there with no added weight".

I didn't have to add any lead. Just the words adding lead to an airplane make me cringe. I know it can't be helped on certain planes especially warbirds, but I will go to great lengths not to add lead.
