Default AMR High Wing Stick 30

I have a high wing Stick 30 and a DLE-30 engine on it's way. If there is interest I will do a build thread here.

This will be my 3rd AMR kit as I have a 1/3 Waco YMF-5 and 1/3 J-3 Cub. I need a good gasser Fun-Fly plane and this should be a great one. I suspect this will be a quick build. Let me know if there is any interest.
Later!!

Your going back more then a few years
Yes I still have it but it needs a new engine. The OS .61 FS chucked the front bearing. I may just see about rebuilding it.

The build will start as soon as the kit arrives. I am hoping to have it flight ready in 5 weeks. During this time I will be out of the country for 1 week so this will be a bit of a task.

The kit shipped on Monday and arrived today(Thursday) very quick.

The kit contents look great and the DLE-30 was neatly packed in with the kit. We are supposed to have rain on Sunday so the build will begin then. Today I am installing new flying wires on my AMR 1/3 Waco. I need to get these wrapped up so I can go flying this Saturday.

Always interested in a build thread. It's great to see how others do various tasks - usually better than Ido.

It has an 84" span and 64" fuse, rated for 26-40cc engine.
Should be an all around fun plane to fly. Here is a link to the AMR site. [link=http://www.amr-rc.com/]Aircraft Modelers Research[/link]

Here I am

Off to a slow start, worked on a couple ARF's for a buddy. I got them as far as I could and gave him a shopping list of items to finish off the assembly.

Onto the Stick 30. The kit was well packed and everything looks good. I spent a little while going over the manual and pulling all the fuse parts out of the sheets. There are several parts that need to be laminated together to build the fuse. I went thru all the fuse steps and gathered all the parts that need laminated and went to work gluing them together with wood glue.
Something I like to do when laminating 2 parts together is place staples every few inches in the parts to hold them secured tight for a good glue bond. I remove the staples after the glue has fully cured.
Thats it for tonight. I will get back to work on it tomorrow evening.

Hi Robert,
I did a little more work on the fuse tonight. I removed the staples from the parts I had laminated and I have joined the fuse sides together. The parts fit is perfect. I dry fit everything before gluing. The interlocking design is excellent and assures a straight square fuse. I checked everything with a square when dry fit and after gluing and it is spot on.
Here are a few pics of where I am at with a total of about 3hrs invested.

The majority of the build will be wood glue. There are a few high stress areas that do call for epoxy and I have T-88 structural epoxy for that. I used up the remaining Elmers Wood glue I had on hand and I picked up some Gorilla Wood glue today to try.
If I can get my yard work done I may be able to have this plane framed up by the end of the weekend. I have to go on a business trip for a week next Monday.
Later!!

Perhaps IMAAGiant Scale - as inrelative size - rather than rivet counterprecise scale? ;-) Relax and have a beer and watch the show.

Build on, McDuff!

Ilike Titebond II for most wood on wood gluing. It seams to have the right balance of strength and flexibility, and with a damp paper towel or rag you can clean up any overages to save weight and sanding. 30 minute (or West Systems - 90 minute?) epoxy where suited. Be careful with the Gorilla Glue. Tough stuff - but it expands alarmingly and you'll be sanding longer than building.

HI Anthony.

You'll have fun with this one!
I built the Stick 85, DLE 111 this past winter, mainly for sailplane towing. It makes a great "Sunday toss around airplane". Also takes a lot less time to assemble at the field than the Waco!

Cheers,
Dave.

Hey Anthony,

After building your AMR Waco, you should be able to build this plane blindfolded.......................[X(]

You will really like the Gorilla brand Wood Glue (Non-Poly). I have been using it for the last few models. Dries to a nice clear brown and sands well.

I have recommended it to a few friends and they too enjoy using the Gorilla brand glue.

I have eyed this kit a few times..... I really like the look of their 1/3 Cub.

Maybe I'll have to give an AMR kit a try next.

Hi SDP,
The Cub is a great kit, I have flown my Cub alot in the last couple of weeks. The Stick 30 is a very simple easy build. I am hoping to finish the fuse tomorrow and the tail surfaces. The wings should build up in a few days as well.

I will let you know what I think of the Gorilla Wood glue once I have used it.

The guys who have followed my other builds know I do not like iron on coverings. I will be covering the Stick with Koverall and painting the plane. The colors will be a bit different. I do have someting in mind but I will keep that to myself until the paint is layed down. I will be painting the plane with Krylon paint.
Later!!

The fuse is complete except for the addition of the servo tray and the landing gear. I will post some pics later. I am going to wrap up the fuse and glue all the pieces for the tail feathers together and let them dry until tomorrow.
I am very happy with the fuse, it is straight, light and strong.
