RE: GIANT 150
I know a person that makes such parts. I will make them out of wood, glass and prime them and send them to my source to be made from quality fiberglass. I tried to make parts from fiberglass once, I am better at making parts out of sheet metal than I am fiberglass. It was not pretty.

RE: GIANT 150
I think for my first attempt at the canopy, I am going to take a piece of paper, lay it over the standard size canopy, and trace out the canopy section by section (there are 3 main sections), making sure to outline the windows. Then flatten the paper, scan it in, draw over the sketch in CAD and scale it up 150%. Then I can send the cad drawing to a lazer fab shop who can cut each of the 3 pieces out. At least the two middle pieces. Then I just have to bend it and glue in the window pieces on the backside. Should look great being metal. And I can have it done in aluminum (brass is so heavy).
Here is a REALLY ROUGH SKETCH, not at all what it will look like, but it gives you the idea...

RE: GIANT 150
I am excited! I have the cad file half done (after I get pricing, then I will do the front and back pieces) and I am getting quotes to have it laser or waterjet cut. I found a great way to weld the other pieces together too!
I will take lots of pics.

RE: GIANT 150
About to send the parts to be cut, i finally have them finished in CAD. I guess I will find out how well they go together once I bend them and weld them up. The best price I have so far is about $100 out of .04 thick 5052 Aluminum. Still not sure about the thickness. It is hard to guess what will be strong enough, but not too heavy, and also will look scale. From the pics I have, the sheet metal they used on the real stuka canopy looks very thin. Glad I found muggyweld, although I have some concerns about the alloy solder holding up to vibration over time.
They have some very cool video's of their products on thier website.

Thanks, now if I can get the rest to look that good and keep it under 500 pounds.... Too bad I cant divide the full scale plane's weight by 1/4...lol Heck just 1/4 the weight of one bomb would be nice!

RE: GIANT 150
Well, Saturday I was busy bending and welding aluminum. I couldnt be happier how they turned out. I just have to find a way to finish up the back piece. They forgot to cut the ring so I will have to make one from hand.

RE: GIANT 150
I used a low temperature soldering rod from Muggyweld. I found them on the web (muggyweld.com). they have some great videos on thier products. I will say that it is not as easy as their video's show. I am also worried about how durable
it will be with all the vibration over time. I think I am going to take the pieces to a fab shop and have them tack weld in a few key places just in case.

Hi Patrick,
If you make it to Sod Busters next month bring the firewall template for the cowl and I will get on the pattern for the glass man. Make it just the size you want allowing for the glass cloth thickness so I can make one that will match your fuselage. You might want to call the glass man and find out how much to allow for the cowl thickness.
If you will go ahead and tell me who to call to order a canopy frame I will go ahead and get one ordered. Might need to go ahead and get it "while the waterjet is hot" so to speak.
Great work on your model. I cannot wait to see it in person.

RE: GIANT 150
Well, I almost have the tail done. Now for the wing!!
I have the main hardwood ribs and the center section cut, I hope to have the center section framed up in the next couple of days. Trying to stay motivated!!
