Looks good! Did you just enlarge the plans? With the new weight limit I was looking at doing a 200" or 225". For the motor I am looking at the KOLM engines. Just don't care for ZDZ! To hard to work with!!
Well, I am getting very close to glassing. I put everything together including servo's and it weighs 37pounds. The engine is 15.5lbs and I figure with glassing and paint (which I can do as light as monokote) gives me a dry weight of 52.5 pounds. I fugure 3pounds for the muffler and 6pounds for the glassing and paint and batteries and I am hoping for a total flying weight of 61pounds (dry).
We will see, I know it looks like I have not done anything, but I have all the electronics in and just have to mount the cowl and glass/paint. So I guess my wish of under 50 pounds is not going to happen. It definitely wont if I go with the ZDZ 210 inline twin.
...Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks. It is good to finally have the gear done. I also looked at the kolm engines, a bit too pricy for me. Also, since they are a 4 stroke, they are not as powerful as a 2stroke cc to cc. I thought I could get by with a 150 kolm, but its power would be equal to about a 120 zdz. I think a 210 is overkill for this stuka, but if I ever want to do a P 40, or spitfire, it would be just about right.

LOL... That is what I am working on... A P40 with a KOLM 135/with extension.
Did you just blow the plans up to get the 150" wingspan??

Yes, I blew up the plans 1.5 times. All the wood sizes scale up great (eg. 1/8"=3/16", 1/2"=3/4") etc. I cant wait to see your build thread, I am already trying to think what my next big plane will be. Since I will have the inline twin, either the p-400, p-1 or a big spitfire would be great.
Do you think a Kolm 135 will be enough?

Well, I am buying the engine in 10 days (saved a pic from website) ZDZ210 inline twin with an onboard starter! I just got the very last single pitt style muffler.
Wings and control surfaces are all glassed, just have to glass the tail and fuse, that should go fast. A friend should have the fiberglass wheel pants and mold done very soon and all that is left is to make the cowl. Need the engine first. Hope to have this plane flying at Joe Nall! Here are a few pics of this massive muffler!

I just cant justify (or afford) paying $5,000 for an engine (kolm). Heck, the ZDZ just went up to $3,500, I was lucky enough to get ZDZ to honor their price from a few weeks ago. Most of the stuff I build by hand, I have a $150 welder that lets me make the gear and the metal canopy only cost me $100 to have fabricated. The wheels I found for $29 a piece, they are vey light and hold 250lbs a piece. I think the most expensive part of this giant stuka has been the instrument panel, which I ended up scraping half of it and made my own.
Believe me, I wish I could get an inline 4 stroke in this plane, would be awesome!!

Great video shaw, I kept hoping Kolm would drop their price or another company like valach would make a cheaper large inline 4 stroke. Nada, so the ZDZ 210 it is. I am wondering how much I wil have to re-route the air if the engine is completely open in the stuka bottom cowl?
Status update...All that is left is to make the cowl, glass the fuse (everything else is glassed), prime, paint and finish up the canopy. I am going to try the first flight without any springs in the gear. If it seems to be a bouncer, I wll add some springs/shocks. I am thinking about scrapping the very heavy 6cell battery packs in place of lipo, but I dont know much more than peoples houses have burned down from overcharging them.
ZDZ said the engine would ship in about 3 weeks and that puts me on track to be done for Joe Nall 2015. That sure would be nice! I am finding myself doing a little every day which really helps.

Got my shocks in today!!!! They are BAD ASS!
I love finding things on the web that are used for other things (and sooo cheap). Why pay hundreds of dollars for something if you don't have to????
weight 1 lb (45lbs/inch compression-ADJUSTABLE!)
$18 each.

Started back on the cockpit. After I found those ultra realistic pics of some plastic models I felt I needed to step it up. Here are a few pics of the wall stiffeners I am making.

I hope you are right foodstick. This is the first built up cowl I have ever built. So far it has been pretty easy, but I just started and have not started building the bottom half yet with the big scoop. Keeping my fingers crossed that it comes out ok. I really hope I can get this plane done for Joe Nall.
