This is the future left cylinder cooling duct. Templates are make out of Formica, next will fire up the bow and cut the shape. This will glassed and the foam will be melted after the epoxy cures.

Nothing wrong with slow but steady progress.

Keep up the good work Tony!

It's far from steady, slow for sure. Thanks for the compliment.

Thank you for the compliment, compared to VOX I'm just a meat cutter. Check out that build.
Work continues. It is a little tricky trying to follow both contours and it is a good thing it doesn't need to be perfect, simply direct the air over the engine fins. Once cut a little filler and sanding, then glass the outside.

I decided to hot wire out the foam rather than dissolve with acetone, this was less messy. The contour of the cowl was measured and transferred to the duct. Four corners were used.

The duct was cut to shape and held in place with two spring load wires. Small strips of glass are applied from the inside.

Let the painting begin. Had to make a trip to the local autobody supply for paint. I'm using Onmi basecoat/clearcoat. I had the Monokot Jet White color mixed for previous builds, I did take a roll of Sky Blue for color matching. The primer and white are complete, now masking for blue trim then clear. We're having a get together on the 12/21 for a little holiday cheer and hope to take this along for show and tell.

I've started working on the controls and such. I'm putting in an Eagle Tree Guardian 3 axis stabilizer just for fun. Since by FrSky receiver is only 8 channels, I had to program the servos rather than use the radio for matching, this took some fiddling to get everything just right.

The Eagle Tree Guardian is mounted as close to the cg as possible on the centerline. The unit provides stabilization in 2D (Pitch and Roll) or 3D (Pitch, Roll, and Yaw). This is something to play around with and my first try. We shall see what happens. I'm undecided if I will use the telemetry for engine temperature and rpm. Battery voltage for sure.

You realize mounting those things near the cg on centerline doesn't really matter?

Though its certainly convenient in this particular installation

This is a first for me so no I don't. I was simply following instructions provided by Eagle Tree. The manual states "It should be mounted near the model’s center of gravity and level to the horizon when your plane is flying straight and level" and shows do's and don'ts.

Had the Cherokee out last Saturday night for show and tell at a Christmas dinner with flying friends. The Miller Lite got in the way of taking photos at the dinner although I had good intentions. Merry Christmas to all.

I had Aerographics from Loveland CO make 1/4 scale Piper graphics. Their catalog is a great resource for scale markings and they can resize to suit our needs. The price was right as well.

Next up is the dash panel. I studied several photos on Airliners.net and arrived at what I thought looks about right. Then made templates and hot wired a shape from a scrap foam block.

The foam core was sheeted with 1/32" plywood and the majority of the core was eliminated. Weight and Gorilla Glue method was used. The plywood was sprayed with ammonia/water mixture to help bending. In this case the original templates were modified to cut the inner core free since this is a one of a kind. Next up is locate scale gauges and find a bust figure. I thinking this is what I will use for the gauges .http://www.iflytailies.com/store/ins...cale-civilian/.

Here's the finished dash, I need to make a false floor yet. I thinking 1/32" Aircraft ply wood this.

Looks good so far! I've about a hundred hours in the full size version, and another hundred in it's kindred. I didn't see omni dial(s) on your panel.

That's one hell of a link! There were no Omni dials included in the package, I assumed the little instrument was an electronic compass? After googling Omni dial I wonder why there wasn't one the package?
