RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
Hi to all you Duster Fans. I'm wanting to know if there is anyone here willing to swop Floyd Fitzgerald Ag-Cat plans in electronic format for a set of 1/5 scale PZL M18a Dromader plans in electronic format.

RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
Here is the start of my 1/12 scale 42" wingspan Grumman G-164 AgCat designed and kitted by Pat Trittle at www.patscustom-models.com . I have modified the vertical stab to replicate the enlarged tail versions. I will also modify the wings to have the squared off "Hershey" tips. Power will come from either a 400 or 480 sized electric motor on 11.1 volt 3s LiPo batteries. Currently I have just the fuselage and the tail feathers framed up. I will start on the wings shortly!
I know it's not the big Floyd Fitzgerald or the Duane Habets one; but it's an AgCat none the less. I needed my Ag fix! Not having the space or materials to work on Floyd's version I started the little one.

Hey Walt! How you doin? Yea, I remember a ways back on this thread conversing with Brian about using this engine and I feel fairly confident I'm doing the right thing. Just have some reservations about it when I think about the weight of that engine...but it should be okay. I'll probably start on mine this winter as well - gotta finish up this H9 J-3 Cub I just started on. It's gonna have a Saito FG 30 gas four stroke for power. Should sound sweet in the air. But I'm really looking forward to getting to work on the AgCat. I'll definately post pictures when I do. It's been a long time coming to finally build this plane...I'm now closer than ever.

Okay, I'm setting about 2 or 3 degrees of right thrust for the Moki 150....big engine and big prop pushing about 10 hp (although I'll never subject the plane to full throttle). So, should I go with standard 2 degrees or a little more? In the photo the yard stick shows the angle I've set currently. It's not bolted and I can still adjust. Any thoughts?

Hey Wally
So you are going to build her finally...I would stay with 2 degs, I think 3 may to to much then you are going to be fighting the rudder all the time. I still have my AT602 never finished my spray system on it but still love flying the plane, maybe this winter I will work on it some more.
Keep us ag boys posted on your build.

Worked on it some more tonight...beefing up the fire wall and side walls (engine box) to handle this heavy but powerful engine.
As I mounted the Moki on the airframe for fit I realized the engine is really just right for this plane...the engine size is a close match to scale. The only issue is the weight of the engine. But maybe that can be to my advantage when it's time to balance. As a last resort if come into balancing problems, I can unbolt the engine box and slide forward or backward as needed and drill new holes and refasten.
Does anyone know if Duane Habets is still making and selling these kits?

Wally I haven't talked to Duane in over a year "shame on me" Bigstew might know. Daune is getting up their in years so I don't know. This engine you are using is the perfect fit for a radial. This is what I plan to use if I build this plane.

Last I talked to duane, he said the last guy that put a moki 150 on the agcat had hell taking off because of the torque the engine produced. He sold it and the guy that bought it put a g62 on it and it flew fine. I am gonna have to give duane a call soon because I crashed my 502 that flew at top gun this year and I want to order another. I think the evolution 77 or 99 radial radial would be a better option and more scale looking. I have to finish a corsair I been building for three years then I will decide if I will build the agcat from the plans I have or buy Duane's.

Hello, first post here. I talked to Duane a few days ago about building me an Ag Cat and he said he would be able to start on it after the first of the year. I've been reading about it here for a long time as it's one of my favorite planes and this arf is exactly what I've been looking for and I'll be putting the evo 999 up front.

Hi Jim, welcome to the forum and welcome to the Ag Cat thread... glad you're on board. I have been dragging feet over the last few years. Back on this thread when everyone else was actively buying Duane's Ag Cat kit, I was busy planning, asking questions, and waiting for a chance to start working on this project. Unfortunately the ups and downs of life got the best of me (work overload, raising kids, etc.) and I have only now got around to building this bird. Sadly, it looks like the other guys on this thread have moved on and are into other things. For them it looks like it's over. As for me, I'm still active in my pursuit to build this kit and be proud of it. It saddens me, though, that everyone seems to have left.
I'm very glad Duane is still around and making kits...I love knowing I could get another one if I contact him. Wondering what his price is now and if he made any changes to the kit since he built mine. Hope you post many pictures of your build...would love to see that 999 up front. A word of advice...don't go into it thinking it's an arf, it's not. It's the shell of an arf with a lot of figuring out of what to do as there are no instructions. You buld it as you see fit, anything goes as long as you go light with it...it already comes to you with some serious heft, but then it's built as strong as a brick house. I weighed mine and I'm at 34 1/2 lbs.....probably 35 lbs even when I'm done.

The price is pretty much the same and as far as differences go, he is building mine with specific dimensions for the engine firewall and thicker/longer landing gear for the 26" prop to clear. Also, I'm having him build it with the narrow tall tail rather than the wide tail and I will have 104" extended wings.

A few more pics....
Just got finished adding battery and switches. The hatch shown underneath the fuse is where the final battery, a 4.8 V 3600mAh , will go the balance the plane. It will power the ignition for the radial. The other batteries (2 for receiver w/ 2 switches, and 1 for the APS 380 fuel pump) are mounted directly under the cockpit. All balances well with this setup.

Oh...and one other change that he has made to the design is a decrease in the wing incidence due to the amount of down trim needed for straight and level flight. It will detract slightly from scale flight but hopefully not too much.

Thank you. I'm gauging my first attempt at flight on the success of Brian Keith Fontenot and his first successful flight... his video is on this thread and You-Tube. His is the same model as mine and he was very happy as you can tell at the end of his flight. I'm going to be approx. 4 lbs. lighter than his plane as I did not have to add a single ounce of lead to make it balance. In that respect I got really lucky.

Here's another video by a gentleman who got ahold of a scratch built Ag Cat built from Fitzgerald plans...
He paid $75 for it at a garage sale...
