Thanks Leroy!
I had a new landing gear made for the Edge as the first version didn't give me the prop clearance that I was looking for. The second version is about 2" taller and has a wider stance. here's what it looks like...

Congrats on the maiden VJ,
Now you need to build a Big full blown scale job preferably something with stitching. I like watching other people pull their hair out.
Later!!

I have been AWOL with my son who was here for 6 weeks before going to Ft Lenard Wood for a bit prior to being deployed. I decided he was more important that airplanes and flying. Once he left, the daughter and her needs hit the top of the 'do it right this minute' list, but now I am flying again. And looking at building the new Edge rather than repairing the Slick Edge I ripped the bottom off.

LOL Cliff, I am doing a bit of flying! I cleaned off my build table and have placed on it a brand new 73" AJ Laser that I am assembling (notice that I didn't say building) . This is an ARF (gasp) and I hope to have it in the air in a few weeks...it should be fun, as I have a DA-35 hung off the nose!

ARF's, some are about money, others it's time involved, still others it's indifference, they all fly, at least their suppose to, then there is the love factor and woman factor and when that flies it can be a better ride than any little airplane will give you. Now if you can have them both you have the best of the two worlds. "Aaaaah, what a life".

Funny Leroy, I do have both!
I purchased this plane because I don't want any attatchments with this one. I can't bring myself to fly my others the way I want to. Kevin you are right, if this one plows itself into the earth all is still well. My others are, as if they were my children, I don't want to see them hurt...I have too much personal attatchment to them all. To some of you this may make perfect sense, to others you're probably thinking, this guys lost it...

Absolute perfect sense to me.
Kinda like taking the Mona Lisa to an outdoor art fair. You treat your masterpieces with kid gloves.

No emotional attachment to arfs.at least not for me. We all fly em.hey, why not. When you put the kind of time and money involved in some of these builds, you don't want to every day fly it. Makes perfect sense.

Well I'm gonna be the oddball here, I take as much pleasure and care of my ARF as any other model. Now that does not mean it warms my heart like the others, not possible. But money is money and I'm not going to excessively risk an ARF for sake of "It's an ARF".
But like I said I am a bit of an oddball, my words after having a crash is "sheet happens" and I move along. That be an ARF or a scale build, and yes I have lost both. But like I say to a newbie "If you can't afford (emotionally or monetarily) to walk over to the dumpster and toss it in, don't put it in the air, cause sooner or later."

Maybe someday when my flying skillscatch up to my building skills I will fly them the same way as well Robert. I agree that money spent on ARF'S can be just as much as a scale build, they're not cheap. I end up customizing them to suit my needs and that drives the price up, so I do take good care of them. I just look at my build table right now and what I see on it would have taken me the better part of a year to get to! Granted as nice as this current ARF is, it can't be compared next to my other planes that I built.

It's amazing how our valued time is converted to a valuable RC model to us, the down side is if you decided to sell one what many can get will not cover the cost of what went into it completly eliminating any value for our time. I realize that isn't always the case but on the average that is the case. In my end I will likely burn a couple before I give them up to someone that doesn't deserve them, and especialy to one who can't build one.

I'm with you Robert. I have a grand wrapped up in some of my arfs. A crash is a crash and you still stand to loose radio and engines if they are bad enough. I like to say I fly arf's to practice my crashing. LOL. I've gotten pretty good now at gear up and dead sticks with my arf's so when I fly my kit builts I don't have to worry so much.

Rough landing
Hello I had a rough landing today with my edge 540 today. The landing gear has cracked leaning toward the back of the plane, also bent the exhaust pipe on my DL50. With fixing the landing gear I was thinking of moving it back into place and using fiberglass and resin to secure it back into place. Will this idea work or should I tear and break it down and rebuild the gear with plywood and balsa? Any help would be appreciative. I didn't build the plane, I bought it already completed.

Without any pictures to see the extent of the damage, it's hard to give an opinion. My guess is that the stronger and more permanent fix would be to disassemble the damaged area and rebuild it with good ply and reinforce the area with tri stock. Be sure to us a good quality 30 minute epoxy for the repairs...
