[TD="class: alt2, bgcolor: #FFFFFF"]Hello Guys

I'm just about ready to paint my Bucker, will be using the yellow and black color scheme. i cover with yellow solartex, stitch and tape. No sure about what paint to use. the Bucker is shiny so i'm thinking in use base color for yellow and black trim than use clear coat, but i need some help in what brand to use. The Bucker has solartex for covering as well aluminum and fiberglass that needs primer, I appreciate any help, thanks

Hi Edi. Solartex is one of my favorite coverings. I have used satin and gloss Rustolium with great results. I use 10% nitro without any issues. Test whatever you want to use and you'll be fine. How about some pictures of your Bucker?

Edi, I have used Rustoleum and Benjamin Moore High Gloss oil based paints on all my gas powered planes with perfect results. There is no clear coat required. Dan.

I'm another Rustoleum advocate.

I use automotive primer on glass and metal parts, first.

It appears that your model is already covered in Yellow Solartex. You'll need to spray a test panel to see how well the Yellow Rustoleum will match. If it isn;'t satisfactory, take a look at Dan's suggestion of high gloss exterior oil based paint

Edi, you may have to use a primer. Oil based Kilz works well for me. Dan.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm leaning towards the Rustoleum. The reason why i use yellow solartex, is so i can minimize the top coats, try to save some weight, Thanks again

I have found that colored Solartex does not accept paint as well as the Natural Solartex. It can be painted, but it requires a little more effort.

On the model pictured below, the rib tapes are white Solartex. The covering is the Natural. I needed two additional coats over the rib tapes to achieve the same opacity as the natural.

Hey Tom... are you familiar with how well KlassKote epoxy paint will stick to cub yellow Solartex ??... I was thinking about using it, because its glow fuel proof and it doesn't require a clear top coat; at least that's what I understand.

John

Most paints adhere well to Solartex. You'll be fine with KlassKote. No clear coat is necessary.

I use Rustoleum, on both gas and glow. I don't use a clear coat with it.

Thanks Tom

Just wanted to clarify with someone with some experience... first time for me using solartex, and the cub yellow is just a bit too transparent for my liking... thought a couple coats of cub yellow klass Kote would improve the opacity and seal it at the same time.

That should work John. There's no need to clear coat Klasskote.

I suggest that next time, just use Natural Solartex and then paint.

Ok, cool... I thought the same way as Edi, and figured the cub yellow solartex would be a good base for the same (or similar) colored paint to achieve better opacity, without having to add a bunch of coats... on my next project, I'll go with the natural solartex, but I feel more confident now that the cub yellow solartex and Klass Kote will work out just fine.

Thanks again, appreciate your expertise & knowledge.

You will love Klass Kote. It is my "Go To" paint. Just mix it 1:1:1 as the instructions say and let is sit for about 30 minutes before spraying it. Really great stuff and very simple to use.

My Sig Cub in Solartex (Natural) and Klass Kote.

Hi SunDevilPilot... cool, thank you... I think it was you I sent a PM to over at rcgroups, but you must have missed it, or it didn't go through... basically asking the same question I asked Tom... I followed your cub build / rebuild... excellent workmanship to say the least.

Hello SunDevilPilot

I read the Klass Kote web, and i like what i see so far, but let me ask you: Because the Bucker have a shinny finish and involve 4 different colors, do you think i should do all my colors in satin then apply a clear gloss coat after on top of all colors? I use Poly tone on all my planes but the sheen is low and their clear gloss is not shinny. Thanks

Edi
