Well I am currently in College Station for roughly 45 days. No pictures, but I did receive my cockpit kit from Tower yesterday. Also been talking with Mile High RC. I am really leaning toward the EME-60 with the onboard starter. Asked a few fellow modelers about the engine and have not head any negative feedback. I got an e-mail yesterday from Mile High and they informed me the engine has a new imphub roved bearing on the main crank as well. I like the idea of being able to start the engine from the radio. I know, I am going to need extra weight on the nose anyway so, I am liking the idea of onboard start. We will see where it goes. I also asked mile high if the starter would fit the DLE 61 that is coming out, but they are not sure if the hub is the same size or not. So, if the DLE 61 is the same size as the EME-60. I think I might go with the DLE-61.

Default Cockpit Interior kit

Well since I am away until April, I had my wife bring my cockpit kit to College Station for me to work on while I am away. The pictures show the paint I am using. I am going to spray lightly the seat, instrument panel and floor panels with 2x ultra cover enamel "aluminum" paint. Then will spray over that with flat green, flat black for the instrument panel of course. After the paint cures/dries, I will use a very light grade sandpaper to go over the green/black and try to get a "used" look. All I had time for tonight is to spray the seat pan and will try and get more done later in the week.
Regards

Default Cockpit kit

Hey all:
Well tonight after work, I sprayed the green over the aluminum paint on the seat and gave it a "worn/used" look. I hope the pictures do it justice. I also sprayed the floor, side panels and instrument panel tonight. I sprayed the aluminum on the instrument panel then shot it with flat black. Will try to see if I can make the instrument panel look presentable tomorrow. Anyway here are the pictures of tonight's progress.
Regards
Glenn Williams

Looks good Glen, the first P-47 I built, I think I had the cockpit painted a year before I was ready to install it. When I was finally ready to put it in, I found I had to do some extra trimming to get it in. My big jug, I waited till it was time to start fitting and it was the same way, I had to trim here and there to get it in and looking right.

+ another, and I would add don't put it togather till you ned to, as helps keep down the frustration, and trimming

Well, unless things change I am thinking about the EME-60 with onboard starter. What do you guys think? I like the idea of self start and the extra weight of the starter for nose weight. Also thinking about the Robart electric retracts and adding a Demon Cortex or igyro as well.

Your thoughts/opinions?

Thanks
Glenn

EME are good engines and the self start is cool, most are putting over a pound of lead on the cowl to balance so more weight up front is good. You might want to move the engine forward 1" from the plans, makes a big difference when balancing. I haven't heard anything good about the electric Robarts. Not my thing. Personally I would opt for the EFI over the self start with the evo 62!

Hey all:
I am leaning towards the Robart electric gear. Does anyone know where to gete the best price on these? I looked at both Tower and Robart websites. I am a club member with tower. Any other places sell these at discount prices? Does anyone have a used set they want to sell?

Thanks
Glenn

I advise against that idea. Properly set up air retracts will give you less problems, and the cycle speed of air can deploy the gear 20 times as fast when you're in a bad situation. As far as I've seen, electric retracts have a long way to go before I would trust them.

Thank you Lifer.

My idea was to made muffler which will be under cowl. Muffler volume is little bigger, diameter of the exhaust pipe is almost the same as when you add the diameters of the two tubes on the original exhaust pipe, holes on that tube are little bigger...

Engine performance was great, but sound was little louder than on original muffler...

Onboard starter? Fancy!
I still prefer the excitement of possibly getting whacked by the prop, but that's just me.

Nothing like rolling the bird out to the taxiway while you stand at the pilot station and start her up, you might want breaks for that

Nice

Yeah I used to take my chances flipping the prop by as well. Here is the scar to proove it. Might still have to hand prop but will always use a leather glove from now on.

Thanks though
