The big brown truck dropped off a big box this evening. I quickly open the shipping box, there was the airplane box, as I opened the box I was worried about the condition of the plane. I have been building RC planes, scratch & kits, for more than 30 year, this is my first ARF. I was amazed how well everything was packed, everything wrapped in bubble plastic and taped together. I spent the next 3 hours unpacking and inspecting the kit. Also I installed the servos in the wing for the ailerons & flaps. I read the construction manual on Tower site so I was ready when it came. I want folks to see how well the airplane arrived, if you have never had an ARF kit you will be surprised. Here are some pictures.

Same here, the brown truck came yesterday, my son received it for me since I was at work, the text came around 10:00 am. What in the world is in this huge box?
Just like the others, excellent packing, no damage to the box ( Thank you UPS ) and now the time has come to start working on it.
By looking at the other pictures, one could say the same guy box all the kits,
Oh yeah! my wife saw the ( huge ) box in the living room and she had to call me at work to give me her opinion regarding the ( huge ) box.

I completed my QC, all looks really good, very clean no extra glue any where or wrinkles, looks like every part of it is here, the wing tube fits snug, not tight, just fine
On my first inspection I found that I have an extra windshield magnet and that one or two of the windshield magnets are loose, every time I pulled the windshield off the two magnets were popped out about 1/16, a spot of CA under them should fix that, check them before you get a surprise.
I had my QC inspector go over the airplane also.

After arriving home I worked on the left side of the cowl, cutting out for the plug. But stumbled upon a major problem with using this engine. It will not work. I tried cutting up a shorter version of the cowl ring to give clearance of the cylinders but that wont work. I have only one option at this point, split the top off the cowl and ring. Making it a two piece and securing it together using pan head machine screws and strips of aluminum might work. Because it is just too big of a motor for that ring ever to slid off.
So has anyone ever tried this? I think I know how I want to do it, but I am open to ideas from someone who has seen or done this before. Not in the mood to experiment.

OK, I answered my own question. I will install the cowl ring and use it to screw the cowl to it using either 4 or 6 screws. That way the cowl can slid off with no problem. A lot less unsightly that cutting the cowl in half. OK, I can sleep tonight and not think about it.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, I just got my Citabria and went through all the parts and reading the instructions I have a quick question, do the wing halves not get glued together? do they stay separate and mount to the plane as 2 separate halves joined by the wing tube, etc.
Thanks.
Thanks.

So i have not opened mine up yet, (still moving across the country) but I was thinking about installing a landing light like my real Citabria had in the cowl. I would slave the light to the flap servo so when the flaps came down, the landing light came on. It might be a nice scale touch. Does anyone here recommend a RC lighting system? I have never used one before.
Thanks

If transportation or storage is not a problem then, by all means glue the two wing half together, it will make it a stronger wing,

Check this one out, looks like the USA west warehouse is out of the switch at the moment but looks like more are on the way.

Sweet, thanks! I thought it would be cool to put Nav/Strobes too but that might be a little difficult putting them on the wing tips and end of the rudder.
