With the details (opening door, engine access door, foot peg) it could be a Hanger 9, which has a wingspan of 137.9".
Do you think that the model is in its original covering, or possibly re-covered?
I love a good mystery!

Welcome Tom and loopdeeloop.
Very nice Decathlons guys, thank you for posting the stories of your airplanes, we rally enjoy that, my first build an Aerostar 40 trainer was covered with the same colors, I think I'm also attracted to those colors.
Please check the second post for your spots, thank you for joining.

Add me in too! My favorite aircraft. Started with a 'Pilot' kit 40 size, put the first O.S. 60 FS in it back around early 80's, now flying a Seagull 90 size Citabria.

Count me in!
I have a Dynaflyte Decathalon with a CRRC 40pro gas engine on it. There's a long story that goes along with mine just like some of yours. It involves 2 of these being built side-by-side with my younger brother. The builds got interrupted by 9/11 and his subsequent first deployment with Texas National Guard. Then his second deployment, this time to Iraq. We finally got them finished on his return. In between the second and third deployment. I was sure glad when he retired from the military.

One of issues I had with my Decathalon was keeping the engine(s) running. We started out with Moki 180s. John's worked flawlessly, mine would deadstick after 2-3 minutes in the air. We did everything we could think of. changed fuel, fuel tank levels, 2-3 new tanks, different mufflers, increasing back pressure by closing off one of the exhaust pipes, tapped the crankcase for extra pressure - nothing worked. Finally changed engines to an OS BGX. Same thing. I never landed the plane under power. We probably put 30+ flights on that plane and never not one time got a full flight and landed with the engine running. It's had 3 engines on it before the latest CRRC 40. I've got 3 flights on it with this engine, and finally have landed it after a successful flight. (3 times) And of course, not all the dead stick landings were perfect. It now has a carbon fiber landing gear, a rebuilt firewall, 3rd new cowl, etc. But, I didn't give up and now have a really great plane. Despite the fact that it's 15 years old.

All your guys who fly the Nosen 1/4 scale Citabria, I have a new fiberglass cowl & wheel pants that I do not need. I bought them last year thinking of building the kit. I will sell them for what I paid $60.00 plus shipping. Post or PM if you are interested. Someone should use them.

Thank you to rgburrill for pointing out the misspell on the thread's titel and to the moderators for fixing it.
rcten, Twin_Flyer, Red Rider, flyer35, welcome all.
Thank you for joining and shearing your stories, I really enjoy reading them, they give your airplanes their own personalities. rcten, nice Chippy ( got one, flew it two days ago ) and the black and yellow D, Red Rider I understand, I have a good friend that is about to complete his third deployment to the Middle East then he is done, 20 years of service. Flyer man! looks like everyone build a DD but me, darnet , nice D you got there and is that a home brew Turbinator hanging there?
Check second post for your spots, thank you.

On the rack to the left is the fuse of a Pica T-28 (love that kit and plane flies great ) and the red fuse is an 80 inch Pietenpol. The DD is a great flyer get your hands on one!

Hostetler Plans offer both a 115" (30%) and a 126.72" (33%) Super Decathlon. Yours could be a plans-built Hosteler, but the engine cowl is throwing me. Seems yours has a much-more pronounced, and larger air intake scoop.
With the details (opening door, engine access door, foot peg) it could be a Hanger 9, which has a wingspan of 137.9".
Do you think that the model is in its original covering, or possibly re-covered?
I love a good mystery!

Question for you Dynaflite Decathletes. Mine wants to bank to the left and I had to set the aileron trim to counter this. I checked the lateral balance and it is fine. I didn't off set the engine (Zenoah G38) to the right could this be the problem?

H flyer35, I did that and for me it did not work. I don't want to go overboard and put too much cause you will pay on slow speed (i.e landing ). I too am in the building months so on the next go around I will see what difference it will make trimming off the rudder, being that it does climb out straight and level on t/o.
