Default from small beginings

Found the 24 inch model I made to produce the sections for the actual model plug

Default Changed my mind

Never got used to the wheel pant shape--fitted the wing to the fuse and it just wasn't right--so I reshaped them-think the revised unit looks pretty good

Default finishing plug

I blocked both wings and I am almost finished sanding the control surfaces--final coat of feather fill this week--don't know why I enjoy sanding this stuff to shape. Possibly therapeutic --mindless motion to relax by!

Thanks Bob--In your opinion-what clearance should I have between the prop tip and the ground with the fuse tail leveled out---I think this will be a 3 blade design

Putting your druthers aside--what would be the min you would accept--I don't expect the suspension will allow more than an 1-1/2 travel

Default Variant Q

I'm just really into the fuse shape--played around with the idea of a low wing design---I'll pull a plug from the fuse mold and shave off the strakes--shouldn't be hard to add a horizontal

If you are flying off pavement, then 2.5" would be the minimum I would like to see.

Default finally

Block sanded all of the parts with 80 grit then blocked again with 150---double wet coat of primer surfacer is next----did a little work to get the canopy to fit just right---bad enough to have to sand a wing but two?

Default Primed

Can't believe it is finally primered --but it looks good so far. Even managed to keep the cat hairs out of it!

That is just sic pal!! Rick, I'm glad to see another"ole schooler" doing it right. My first Jacknife was about 8" long and was sawed into pieces for all the cross section drawings. If you were closer, I'd have you do the "dragon" paint job on my new Jacknife....in your spare time..lol Sensei and I appreciate you efforts. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Jack--This plug will also get cut up to pull the sections from--it's always fun to see the expression on some ones face when after all the work you have done on something like this--it ends up sliced and diced and then thrown away----SAY WHAT !!!!!---Still--not as bad as the BATWING--ended up with 2 sets of primary molds-then a 3rd plug with all the panel lines and rivets--that was a brutal project!!

Default mold making

Finally got a chance to start the molding--treated myself on Fathers day---applied epoxy coat after waxing and PVA ing plugs---then applied a coat of chop after the coating set up---last -was a layer of heavy large weave glass to cover the chop fibers and then filled the weave with a thickened mix of black epoxy

Hi Rick,
I've been living in the shop, running resin and bagging molds to have a extra Jacknife to take to Kentucky jets. I usually post stuff at Jack Holland Jets on Facebook. Here's one of the latest pics.

Nice--I have a full size van and don't break down anything I don't have to although I am realizing being able to remove the verticals would help with shop storage---those are certainly sleek looking machines!!!!

Default Cowling modification

I ground off all the filler that defined the front of the plug --cut some balsa rings and attached aluminum rings to finish it off--I'm trying to duplicate to some degree the cowling in the picture

Default Fuse plug sanded

I sanded the fuse plug with 600 wet to cut down any orange peel in the primer and then finished with 2000--kept checking which side of the paper I was sanding with---at 2000-doesn't feel much different. Thought it would take forever but I broke it up into sections every night over the coarse of the week--wasn't bad at all. I hope the pictures show how straight the body is--amazing to think it started out as a foam plug!!

Started molding the front of the fuse---difference in wing strake angles prevents making just left and right molds--going to do a 5 piece mold with belly pan
