Do you guys really have those issues with your wive's, I know I don't. About twenty so years ago, "Once" she had a comment about how much my stuff cost. I loving grabbed her left hand, raised it to eye level, and kindly said "No where near as much as this cost me" whilst glaring at and rubbing her ring. Not a single word about my hobbies since, other than to offer to buy something for me.

The fuse is ready for shipping, still have to put the ailerons on and add the ele's to the stab's. With all the assembly Jeff has to do it really is an ARF for him. I may get this thing to the shipper Monday, depends on Jeff.

Hey Ace that came out looking very nice... Jeffs bulldog is as shiny as the real one is, so you captured the essence of the real aircraft that's for sure!... I'm not criticizing in any way but taking the paint to a level of shine like that, you hide the weave of that stits fabric, but you retain the enormous strength you get from the stits fabric of course... I'm kinda partial to the sheen on your red eagle.
I used white solartex on my cub with 4 coats of cub yellow, and then 2 coats of simi gloss clear; both base and top coat are klasskote ,I know its not your preference, but I had already ordered the solartex and klasskote... the thing I like is, although you can't really feel the weave, but you can still see it to some degree if you catch it at the right angle, just enough to know its there... on my next project I think I'll try the stits as a comparison to what I experienced with this solartex... I like the solartex, but I think I like the finish of the 21st century fabric more... the solartex has too uniformed, Kind of fake looking weave to it... where as the 21st century fabric has a more realistic weave to it, but the finish wasn't durable enough, and the overlapped seams showed, had a whitish edge to it... the 21st century fabric is not a bad covering if you're just looking for a fast way to finished a model in a fabric covering... I'm still in debate about the solartex, I'll wait to see what peoples opinions are before I finally decide whether I really like it or not.
All in all I'm happy with the way it came out with solartex and klasskote, when you see the finish on this cub, will be interesting to see what your comments are.

No not yet Jeff... the cub was built back in 94 and flown for a few years and then was stored for about 15 years... it was covered in 21st century fabric and the surface of the covering started to break down, due to the use of windex with ammonia to clean the model... the ammonia caused the surface to go sticky / tacky... so I decided to take it out of storage and refurbish it with a bit more scale detailing... its 95% done, just finishing off the cockpit and some exterior bits and pieces... I plan on doing a thread on it after the New Year, just showing the before and after shots, I took plenty of progress shots, so I will show the most interesting parts of the progress... I fully rigged it with control cable like the full scale cub...elevator / horizontal stab trim jack screw works via its own channel.... three servos behind the rear seat, everything else is stowed in the wing roots, i.e receivers, battery packs, throttle servo, aileron servos, etc; its the only place to put them out of the way.

No worries, I prefer to do just one posting and then let the thread run loose.. it came out nice, all the exterior details are there right down to working brakes and pitot protector,... before I put the clear coat on, I used a Antiquing Faux glaze to bring out the nooks and crannies of all the details, and to simulate grease or oil in and around the landing gear pivots... I purposely chipped the paint on the step, tail lift handles and landing gear and rubbed in the glaze to highlight those areas, and then after the clear coat was applied, I dulled up those areas with a piece of scotch bite pad so it doesn't have any shine to it at all... It may take me a while before the re-maiden flight, after two years of working on it, I'm a little nervous to fly it... most likely it will be flown on occasion, not a weekly flyer I'm afraid to say,

JohnM,
Your telling me about being a little nervous to fly something so beautiful...even though Rob did all the work it still makes it just as hard if not more. I don't have the skills to build another.
Let me know when you do post the photos.
Thanks, Jeff

Robert,
Must be Sweet Sorrows.
Sweet that it is complete, Sorrow that you poured so much of yourself into this project and now letting it go.
Like (only on a much smaller scale) great build threads like this one coming to conclusion.

Robert, have you look into a precut kit building? Price wise they are reasonable and having thing cut to fit saves some labor/time. I know you can get them in standard wood construction as well as in metal building you bolt to a slab. Granted you may want to make a few improvements like a heavy wood floor if its on piers or a positive roof vent system, I used both on the small wood building I built. Just a thought.
