I ran out and got the dowels so first thing in the morning I can put them in the tub. The wife should be here shortly so I am probably done for the day.

These dowels take 2-4 hours of soaking before they are anywhere near malleable. So, I put two in the tub and will get the other wing half framed up and ready for one also while waiting. Here it is cut, sanded, laid out, and awaiting glue.

Those engines are nice.

Are you just using water to soak the dowels?

This half is glued, I will give it 30-45 minutes to cure, then drill and mount the wire attachments. When the dowels are ready the halves will be waiting.

Thanks you!
The first dowel has been shaped around the tip. I will let it dry for about thirty minutes and then glue it on.

I was checking out the valach 170 spec' over on Toni's web site... did you see they have another version of the 170 with a fully CNC machined crankcase... I kinda like the look of the split crankcase myself... it certainly is a nice engine though... the price isn't that bad when compared to other engines in a similar capacity.

That's because Valach was sold and the new owner made a few changes. Desides the case they also enclosed the valves, I prefer it as it was. Jeff's is like mine, the best version.

Both wing tip dowels are on, the wing tube sleeves in, the paper sleeve for the servo wires in, all glued up and curing.

Yeah, I like the split case as well... so I guess when they sell the last of the split case design, one is stuck with the new case design... they enclosed the push rods in tubes, but they didn't add a breather system to encourage the oil mist to move up the tubes into the valve covers... I'm sure the mist will get up there in small quantities... it didn't work efficiently in the small saito engines either, and you had to pull the valve covers to lube the rockers occasionally.

Robert at the rate you are working I don't see it taking 4 months to rap it up, it's not as though you have things to figure out. It has to be a joy putting a plane with class together given what some of the kits are like. I do like the near elegant looks of the parts.

Very nice, Leroy

Thank you Leroy, it is a pleasure. The hardest part is sorting the wood, everything is metric and a little off, at least by my calipers.
I have started the process of sheeting the wing. Will post when there is something to see.

Both sides of the trailing edge is on. Only one side of the front is on and being wetted so as to curl to shape.
