Pica P51 1/5 scale help please.
Hi all, this is my first post on this forum and my first 'big' plane build.
I recently bought a Pica 1/5 scale P51 from the estate of a recently deceased modeller. The kit is untouched and came complete with a cockpit and Candyman/Moose decals. I can't wait to get started but there's a small matter to resolve first.
Having opend the box and examined the contents, there aren't any build instructions, just two plan sheets.
Is this right? should there be a build instruction manual? If so does anyone out there have one that I could get a copy of? PDF or paper copy would be fine.
I'm happy to pay any costs incurred.

RE: Pica P51 1/5 scale help please.
Hey Andy,
I have one of these built and glassed. My advice would be to build it nose heavy. Glassing mine caused it to become very tail heavy. Cover may not cause as much problem but these kits were built around engine rails like the old Super Tigre 3500's would have used. Most flyers have gone to gas at this point and the engines do not seem to have as much weight or maybe nust not as long. Either way, here is a link to some pic's of mine and you can shoot me a note if you need more details.
Also, the landing gear take a beating on these planes. After having mine rebuilt (I try to find builders... I just can't find the time myself much any more) 3 times I think the issue has been resolved. We replaced the wing rib's and spars that hold the LG with 1/4 inch fir ply. It did add just a few grams more but overall worth the weight. I replaced the plastic cowl with one made by Fiberglass Specialty re-pop. Much nicer.....
Good Luck on the build..... I have a request. If you find the CG on the plans or info you pull together. Could you please forward that location to me? I lost my marking after a recient paint job.
Thanks,
Rick

Pica construction manuals are notoriously lacking at best. You are not missing much. The book is normally a few pages stapled together. If you are a builder, you won't have any trouble. If you are not a builder, the manual won't help you that much anyway.

Hey Andy,
I can get you the plans and the book is good and thick. I will scan it and see how big the file is. Im about 3/4 done with mine I cant wait to fly her. Im running a DA50 with scale exhaust looking at doing a sliding canopy but we will see.

Thanks for the offer of the build manual. I've been promised one from a fellow builder who only lives about 40 miles from home!
The plane looks great, well done on a good build. Did you make your onw exhaust or buy it?
I was going to build a scale exhaust for mine too and I'd be interested to know what route you took.

RE: Pica P51 1/5 scale help please.
Well Im glad that you found one they are getting real hard to find, let me know if you run into any other problems. I bought the exhaust from Keleo a bit pricy but I think well worth it. I would have made my own but I just dont have the time. It took alot of time installing it since the one I bought is made for the Top Flight so you have to cut the cowl and cut into the plane to get it to fit but I think that it turned out good. Now I have to install my sequencing unit for the gear and gear doors the it will be time to work on the sliding canopy and cockpit.
