Alex,
thanks for posting. I'm a fairly accomplished builder but the CD might be helpful.
I have an Evo 770 that should fit the plane pretty well. We shall see.

I myself have built quite a few of Balsa USA 1/4 scale kits but some to the instructions in the flair manual are confusing to me and I just got lost at this one point making the main spar as to using 2 wedges as spacers that you have to fab and then laminate.
I get back to it today and keep going. Somewhere in this house (my son says) I have Tom's CD that he sent me 5 years ago. Serves me right for not putting it directly into the flair kit box before i put it away for 5 years.

The plane was built by my bud. The fuse, wings and stab are all framed up. Not a great deal of work to finish the plane.
Sand the wing tips to shape and do some detailing. Mount the stab etc.
Currently I'm working on a BVM F80 I've had for a number of years. After that's finished maybe over to the Stearman, but maybe not.
I have a friend who is interested in the plane so we shall see

Hi Guys,
I have just , after a lot of searching got hold of a Flair Stearman kit . I will be putting the Evolution 777 radial in it if all goes well.
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share,email or copy the build cds, they would be a great help.
If mine turns out half as good as the ones in this thread I will be very happy.

So I've been working on the Stearman a bit lately. I needed to sand and shape the wing tips. Just chunks of balsa that you must remove most of.
Any way since I didn't build this plane I'm not feeling the flow of construction. So all the surfaces are built with and hinged. Nothing is attached to the fuse yet except the top wing center section.
What would be a good way to proceed from here.

That evo 77 should look nice on there. There's an guy from Israel that put a Moki 150 in his and it flew like a champ. it's on YouTube.

The instruction manual doesn't really say how to secure the top wing center section. The part I have has blind T nuts on the other side of the cabane. My guess is that you drill through the cabane and add a bolt through the wing outer rib, Does that sound about right?
The bolt head will be proud of the rib surface now,

Working on the wing assembly. I will say that Flair WAY Over Engineered the wing attachments!
The hardware is so stout it could be used on a 1/4 scale plane or larger.
My friend didn't do a great job in the attachment area. So I needed to do some work to get the alu. wing fasteners and top Alu. Wing spar in place.
Lots of work remains..

Hi Bob,
I've just finished building the fuselage on my Flair Stearman, and finally worked out a good simple system to mount the EVO 777 to it.
I will be starting on the wings soon.
I found the early previous threads on this build to be really useful and implemented a lot of the mods and ideas that the guys have added.
I will be glass cloth and epoxying the center top wing section for a bit more added strength.

Thanks for looking in. If you have a picture of the Evo777 Mount idea I'd love to see it.
I was thinking about doing the same thing, glassing the center wing section.

I will say this about the wings. Make sure you test fit the Alu. Spars through the ribs BEFORE you glue everything down.
It's a very tight fight in through the ribs. Since my wings were already assembled I ended up grinding down the alu. spar so it would slide though the ribs.

One other area that needs proper attention. The wing connector area. Try and make sure you have all the wood lined up like is supposed to be when you assemble those. You'll slide Alu bars through the outer ribs. They are epoxied in the outer wing sections and then afixed in the wing center section via bolts into blind nuts. Just try to clean the slot where the Alu bars fit in the outer wing and wing center section.
It's a relatively process to get the Alu. bars aligned and epoxied in place once everything is such that they can be adjusted like they are supposed to be.

I’ve got one as well.
It was partially built ( fuselage and upper wing mid section were built), but very badly, so I’ve cut it up saving all the ribs and formers. It sounds brutal, but was the only way, as it was beyond saving.

Ive now got a stack of useable formers and ribs.

Ive read that some of these can have a tendency of climbing under power. The full size has a cambered tail plane. Is there any benefit in making the model the same.

I’m still way off finishing, but thinking of using a Saito 90cc 3 cylinder.

I had a severe issue of climbing under power. It would fly slowly just fine, but would immediately raise the nose when throttle was applied. Very annoying. Still trying to work that issue out.
