Ray, that seems like a valid way to balance the plane. You should have a much better experience the next time you fly it.

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister

    Hi

Got five flights from the Bucker today and it went very well. Appreciate support from John Glezellis it getting it trimmed out.

CG was right on and just had to scale back the elevator/aileron travel a bit and increase the expo. On the MOKI 210 started with a 20 X10 prop but changed to a 22 x 8 and was a bit better so will stick with the 22 x 8 wood prop from now on. Flys nicely at about half throttle and no bad habits at low speed. At least so far....

Next step is to finish the text markings and N number.

Some pictures from the field below. Was an excellent day... :-)

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister

    Hi folks
I love this thread. I have just purchased Gary Allen 33% plans and decided to scale them up to 35%. I'm saving money for Moki 150 radial. I'm guessing it should be a good match. Already started by buying spruce stock from the Sky shop. So today I spent cutting all sizes I need. I think this works out cheaper than buying spruce stringers in the hobby shop. I'm planning to cut all parts by hand. I know it's a pain but I will have plenty of time before I get the engine.

That is super Fredo (I assume that is your name). You are going to love the looks and the way the Jungie flies. Remember to keep the tail end as light as possible. This may not be as essential when using the Moki 150. I'm curious where you are going to buy your 150. A good friend experienced some valve train problems with his RCS 250 radial and it has been back at Troy Built models for quite a while waiting on parts. Seems that parts and service are scarce for these radials unlike the engines that DA sells.

Are you going to make your own cowl since you are scaling up the plans?

    G-day y'all

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister

    G'day
I'm thinking of buying radial from TBM but need to save money for it first. If I see a better deal in the meantime, elsewhere I might buy that. I realise the service is not the same in comparison to DA, which are relatively easy to service and not as complicated. In my case since I live in Australia things could take a lot longer but still," I might be crazy" will do anything to get that sound..)
Yeah I know what you mean by keeping the tail light. It can be a problem if you are using 50cc engine. As you mentioned I'm going to build cowling myself. Its diameter is now 11.5".
Just a question. It seems like the flying wires are keeping the wings together since they are only doweled in their locations. Does this make the wing strong enough for basic aerobatic maneuvers? Or do you think the wings would be better of with wing tubes for extra strength?

I am using 4-40 size rod for my flying wires with solder on type Dubro rigging ends. I have put my Jungie through every conceivable violent maneuver that I can think of. Never a problem or a broken wire. Same for the first Jungie I built from Allen's plans. No need for wing tubes.

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister

My name is Viliam (eastern European living in Australia) I was flying IMAC and a little bit of 3D up until now but my work has changed and allows me a very little amount of time for practicing sequencies. So I took a break and try to build something for change. I have scratch built a few planes in the past, so I'm a bid of jack of all trades if you could call it that way. A classic bipe like this one was always on my list, to build but I just never got around it.
I thought I'll start a new thread on this but changed my mind and decided to use existing one. I'm not a fast builder but so far every single project I have started I also finished. Going by my history, this plane will definitely see the finish line in the indefinite time

Viliam, I'm glad you chose to stay with this thread. It is entirely appropriate because your Jungie is based on Gary Allen's design. There are several of us that will be glad to try to answer questions that you might have. However, with your background in modeling I doubt that there will be many.

    Hi Ken
I think it's great to see you guys are still hanging around. There's always plenty of questions to ask and descisions to make. I appreciate your help.
Just a little update with no pics. (nothing much to see yet[&:]) I have finished cutting all stringers, made up ply templates for the wing ribs. I'm using the old sandwich method. Made up servo lead paper tubes for the wings. Used old curtain metal tube 15mm in diameter, lightly coated with silicon grease and angle-rolled paper tape used for gyprock gap filling. This is a highly porous paper that can be coated with glue of some sort. I used epoxy resin which was just brushed on the surface. Result is a nice strong light weight tube. I needed to make this now as I have to drill holes into my templates

Hi, and welcome to the thread and RC Universe. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun building the Jungie. The Moki 100 will be a very nice engine for it. Have you checked to see if it will fit inside the cowl? Are you building yours from Gary Allen's plans? There are quite a few guys on here who will be glad to try to answer any questions you might have.

We usually go by names on this thread so what is yours?

If the one you are talking about is the Gary Allen design, mine weighs 27# with a Sachs-Dolmar 4.2 in the nose. No added balance weight. Ignition and battery are on the firewall.

Thought you guys would enjoy a pic of Gary's latest, the 35% Jungmann. The Luftwaffe scheme model is Matt Chapman's and the Spanish scheme one is Gary's model. Both models weigh around 29 lbs., both powered by DA85s. The gear is functionally articulating so that the wheels drop a bit and cant inward during flight. I put the maiden flight on Gary's model this weekend, and first indications are that it will be a good one. Gary and I plan to campaign the Jungmann at the Scalemasters in September.

    Great thread, gentlemen.

Hi Guys, I haven't put any post for a while but just to let you know I'm still with the project. I decided to scale Jungmeister to 35% and here is my latest progress. Now, I have few more questions. Just made a bracket for the upper winglet. I followed the lines from the plan but it turned out, the upper winglet's incidence is actually -2 degrees rather than -1. Not really a big drama as I can adjust it but just wondering how would it affect flying if I left it like that. Also the upper winglet ended up a slightly more forward. Again, following the lines from the plan. Have you come across to something similar?
