BRAND NEW!!! FIRST MMF CITABRIA IN THE MAKING...!!

I decided to build a Citabria Prototype to be kitted in 2012...starting from an older, hand made fuselage as well as an incomplete wing. This is actually Fuselage #002A which never made it into a finished airplane, and was hanging from the ceiling for 5 years now.
Both the wing and fuselage will be extensively modified to meet the actual standards, yet when finished, will be a full value MMF premium Citabria.
I have a partial Kit laying around and the missing parts will be laser cut as soon as my cutter returns from the season´s holidays. I have enough to do till he returns, next week - or earlier.

Will be posting update n pix here soon.

For those interested, here´s the tail feathers of my 30% Citabria, this is one afternoon´s work. All that´s left to do is round sand the edges. Everything else is done, including hinge installation - not yet glued in, of course...

Hi Marcus, really nice work you've done there, hard to beleive I started this thread almost 10 years ago,a lot of you guys including Big Bird have really done a lot of excellent work on this type of bird.Yes I still have my 35% Decathlon just started/still on hold.I don't know why but I just haven't got back at the SD,But I will someday I promise.Whether it be an AMR kit or yours Marcus ,or the one I have some day I will...cause Super Decathlons are a very cool bird.

Hey Steve, nice to hear from you...
yeah, it´s one of the longest lasting threads here at RCU, and it sort of turned into a generic Super Decathlon thread.
you should finish yours, you´d be delighted with the good flyer a SD really is. no matter if WH, AMR or mine.
Ask Ken (Big Bird) he´s built the WH and AMR, and is waiting to get one of mine, which I hope to be able to send him this year.

If you read thru the 156 pages of this thread, you´ll notice that many fellows have joined, hopefully enjoyed the company, built theirs and are out there flying...
others we never heard of again, all in all thnk it was (and still is) a nice place to exchange ideas and share experiences, mostly related to this super nice bird called Super Decathlon and its relatives, the Citabria and Champ.

So thank you once again for starting this and giving us the opportunity to meet new friends here.

Marcus

P.S. I am currently building another one, this time a Citabria, from one of of my very first batch of fuselages, when I still was cutting them by hand...
Here a few pics...if you wish visit my HP at www.marcusmodelfactory.com

Good to hear from you again Steve. Right now I am putting a charge on my Hostetler SD. Not for any particular reason other than I haven't done it for some time. A few days ago I put a new landing gear on our 42% AMR SD. The old one was two piece and the right side had been bent so many times that I was getting afraid that it would crack. The new one is 3/8" 6061-T6 and single piece.

I heard from Michel at AMR that they were starting a production run on the 35% SD. Marcus I'll bet your Citabria will be a very good flyer.

Don,
I actually never thought about kitting the Pro, and for 2 reasons:
a) the cabanes would be an issue to make the pieces
b) the Full-size Pro was built only once, so there is only one paint scheme available, in red and white - I have seen people building the B.USA kit and finishing it in dark green, blue, etc but nothing of that would be scale.

Besides that, I don´t think it would be as popular as the SD and Citabria.

But thanks for asking.

Guys
Here´s what the Citabria looks like now.

I painted the interior with a red-inked varnish to somewhat resemble a mahogani finish, older Bellanca Citabrias have lots of mahogany style and maroon leather interior. It does look a bit strange right now because of several leaks to the outside which will have to be sanded off, and of course the red covering will hide that.
The wheels will be replaced by correct size next week.

Will start to work on the wings changeneering tonite, remember this is a bashing project, the wing I once started was to be a trainer wing, not a Citabria, but can be modified into a correct shape...

I´ve been at it again.

A couple of years ago I purchased a short kit of a mini, electric, Super Decathlon, for $ 50 that was completeley hot wired out of styrofoam, and came in 10 pieces. That´s it, nothing else...it landed on the shelf where it rested for 2 years.
This weekend I decided to give it a try, and did a little wizardry with components that I had all in-house.
Result is the little beauty on the photos.

A few specs: WS 39", Length 29 1/2", Total weight 560g (with a 3S, 1450MAh LiPo), 30A ESC
4 Turnigy Microservos, Spektrum AR 6250 receiver.

Hope to be able to maiden it this weekend...

Here are the pix...enjoy

A little update on my 30% Citabria project...
took the Mardi Gras (here we say Carnaval) holidays to finish the build, now it's ready to cover...haven't had much time since I got sidetracked by the finsih of a FW-190 with a Moki Radial.

There is not much difference to a Super Decathlon except for the wing profile, tips and flaps...but of course the paint scheme will clearly show a Citabria
Enjoy.

I finished covering the wings yesterday - I am only working on my spare time...
Here are the pix of the fullsize - a little faded colors, but is is red and white. This one was stationed at our local AeroClub years ago.

More to come...

Hi Guys
a little update on the Citabria build...
Finished covering the Fuselage, yet a few Decoration details to be done, like the stars circle on the tail and the reg #.
Waiting for additional Red Oracover to arrive to cover the stab and elevator.
The sun shining thru the wall makes a funny effect on the tail...

Working slowly because I got sidetracked by the finish of an Airworld FW-190 A-8, you can see the pix here [link]http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showthread.php/309195-Airworld-FW-190-mit-MOKI-215ccm-Stern-Bau-in-Brasilien?p=2664939&posted=1[/link]

Enjoy

Thank you Tom.

Here a little update on the Citabria build

I have yet to clearcote the cowl, and the stars on the tail ended up a little oversized but that´s ok, it doesn´t spoil the overall effect...the checkerboard is the most time consuming item do do - all done in white/black Oracover, ironed on.

Hi all
here are a few pix of my Citabria on her first outing. We had our 27th edition of annual Fly-In, which happens to be the largest meeting in Brasil for years now.
I didn´t yet install any engine or radio, only a fake Spinner and prop not to leave her "faceless" - i actually took her there to be sold. Didn´t sell her, butgot a couple of inquiries.
If I keep her, I will install a fake radiator, a turtledeck antenna and a landing light, as well as a fake exhaust stack and a doorstep, to complete the illusion. pssibly also a cockpit interior.
I also took the opportunity to shoot a couple of pictures to replace the fullsize Citabria pic I had as a teaser/banner on my website. I tried to recreate the same position, angle and lighting conditions, and although I didn´t take her to the runway, the effect is pretty much the same. I think I succeded. Make the comparison for yourselves. I just didn´t notice the prop wasn´t in the same position, but who cares...??!

Enjoy the pix.

Default RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Hi fellas,
today I just wanted to share a few pix of a SD 35% a customer is building from my kit - actually, his second MMF kit, as he already built a 30% before...
This beauty is being built to accomodate a DLE-111. The paint scheme is a personal fancy yet very attractive and could be used on a full-scale SD without any problem...

Tell me what you think...it´s close to be completed, and of course I will post the pix here when done.
