RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon
HI Guys; I had the same concern with the screws in the spar so I used a 10/32 blind nut inside the inboard wing ribs and bolts from the inside of the fuselage cabin. it must go thru 2 cabin ribs so I used a piece brass tubing for a guide to line up the bolts with the blind nut in the wing has worked out well maybee an option for you to consider cheers John

actually, thats the way you mount the wings on the balsa usa super cub. it's a pain to get your hands inside the cabin door with a allen key and than get up to the wing mounts.it works but..........

Guys my ,02c
a) Spar x struts mounting: I use an L shaped (an U-Channel would be even more scale) like the pix below screwed onto the spar on my planes - and they´re 3/8 x 3/8. Enough, considering there´s a wing tube also. For more security, I could drill 1/8 holes thru the spars and place a lock nut on the otherside. I don´t know on the WH design, but on mine there are 1/8 ply shearwebs along the entire span of the wing, providing for additional strength in both length and width, regarding to the spar itself.
b) Wing securing against the fuse sides: I use a bolt inserted from the root inside (fixed), and a wingnut from inside the fuse. Simple and easy. If you wanna go really scale trade the wingnut for a locknut, it´s less visible.
Cheers
Marcus

yes, i like the idea of bolts in the wing and nuts inside. i have wing mounts from da that are 1/4-20 threads and nylon knobs. i use them on my imac extras. i will retro fit a set into this bird. thanks for the idea

Hi guys,
Wings are almost done will post a picture tomorrow. What do you think about the Hitec HS-5685MH for each surface? On a 2s lipo. Are these strong enough?
Also i have 4 piece of W1 rib? I only need 2 right?

6 1/4 seems pretty low to me, my calculations tell me about 8 inches would be right, added to 2 1/2 radius of a 5-inch-wheel gives 10 1/2 from the ground to the LG base plate.
Check the front view drawing and do your own math...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon
my gear is 8 1/2 high.i am confused on the wing center section on the 33 % plans and the kit itself from the plans. f13 and 14 are cut so that the inner w1 is about 5/8 in outboard of f15. should not w1 sit on top of f15 and that the outer w1 be placed an inch or so outboard of that. also f13/14 only go into the wing box 1/2 way into the spar box. sounds like a failure about to happen..

Hey Martin, I calculated 8.250" using a three view that I have, from axel to top of gear. I made mm gear from the plans but made the mounting tabs a little longer so it measures approx 7.000". With that I'll probably have to use a 3 bladed prop or make another gear.

That would be the scale height of the landing gear.
Anything highr or lower will spoil the scale look of the model.

Hi,
Yeah gear should be around 8.25inch. I bought a 3blade 25x12 for my dle-111. Should give plenty of clearance with a 5inch tire.
I try to get graphtechrc to make me a Carbon fiber gear. Should be around 80dollars.
Does somebody have a mold for the canopy and is willing to make me one? I'm willing to pay for it.
