Hostetler 33% Decathlon
I only didn´t do the N# because I left that open for the customer to choose.
Now I am thinking of doing a building pause - building Decathlons, that is - except for assemblying kits.
I already commited to build another airplane for a fellow customer - a Balsa USA 1/3 scale Ercoupe with all bells and whistles. The box(es) will be arriving this week. Next in line is a 50% AMR Spacewalker for the same guy.
See ya fellas around, will also post pictures of my SD kitbuilders´ projects.
Marcus
Unusual, although scale, color scheme.
Marcus
Will post of course.

According to him, these pix are outdated, the plane is almost completed now. Will post pictures as soon as he sends me more pictures.
Enjoy the pix.
He´s very happy with the plane and it´s flying characteristics. Needless to say that I am happy too!! He´s powered his Decathlon with a DLE 55, he said it´s more than enough to go vertical...he hung the plane on the prop, much to my shock/horror!!
He will now proceed to finish the plane properly.
Here some photos at the field.
Enjoy

Here´s the fuse in actual stage. If you look close you´ll notice there are formers/parts of them missing, to be replaced by dowels simulating the tubing on the original.
Will post new pix when progress is noticeable. This plane is being built to compete at the 2011 Brazilian Scale Nats. This one will be finished in the colors of PP-KDY, unfortunately this plane was lost in an accident in 2001, with two killed. As the builder is member of the ACRO club, this is a hommage to both the pilots and the plane who also belonged to that very club. Unfortunately there is no picture available on the ´net form that fullscale Decathlon.
I have another kit being cut these days for another customer who wants to build it all out scale for the same Nats next year, under my supervision as well. What can a designer wish better than his designs/kits competing against each other in a major scale event, not to mention the Nats? This one will be finished in Greg Koontz´ all-red scheme.
Wish both builders/pilots good luck...although this may sound biased.
Marcus
It´s the Silver/Navy with Red trim in the middle.
Apparently they had a dead stick and tried to glide back to the field, the pilot kept the nose a little too high and stalled not far from the strip. The plane nosed in and none of the 2 occupants survived. A sad story.
But the plane will be flown again in a 30% scale version, as told, as a hommage to the 2 pilots. Will post more pics if/when available. Also from the model, of course.

Read most of the posts on the thread and tried to save as many of the photos as i can for reference, im currently building the 30% WH Dec with the "Stan's Cowl", what a mission.
Attached is a photo of my progress so far minus the one elevator half i finished last night.
Had my wing ribs all laser cut locally so that should go relatively quick compared to the Fuz.
Cheers
Robert
welcome aboard!! I make Ken´s words mine, you´ll enjoy this addiction called Super Decathlon.
To get your juices flowing, and all others´ fellas too, another happy customer of mine sent me a few photos of his 30% of my production...
Enjoy
Marcus
The plane looks nice, beautiful color scheme. I didn´t finish this one, I sold it ARC and someone else did the covering and finishing job.
Glad you liked it.
Marcus
Thanks for the welcome, :-)
Those pictures are stunning, a friend of mine is busy with a 42% version as well, he managed to get another cowl for it though which is much more scale like.
I'm slowly making progress, trying to spend at least 2 hours on it per day, not easy some days, especially when facing a particularly tricky / boring part, :-)
Managed to get the elevators done last night, what a mission to get them straight 2.5 hours later and its done. Starting now to get to a point where i can actually list the jobs remaining on the Fuz.
1. Horizontal Stab Leading edge
2. Servo Trays
3. Top outer stringers
4. Bottom Stringers
5. Gas tank shelf
6. cabin floor
Hoping to get those done by the weekend so i can start assembling my wings, should gorelatively quickas they were cut including the break off tabs.
Attached is another pic of mine and one of my friends 42% pre-covering ( one wing left to cover as of yesterday).
Pat
welcome aboard! Be sure you´ll fiend a bunch of friends here, all taken by the Decathlon craze...so will you.
This is a great little airplane that just happens to cause some kind of addiction...haha
Now serious, this has turned into a long thread, and many subjects will be addressed over and over again, as it is easier than leafing thru the dozens of pages...be welcome to ask whatever question you may have...
Marcus
P.S. Robert, how´s yours coming along?
I’ve read and re-read this thread, so I hope I don’t duplicate any questions. But, I’ll apologize in advance if I do….you’re right, it’s a long thread. I’ve incorporated some of your suggestions as well, but I’m not trying to achieve the scale detail that you’ve produced. Thanks for the welcome.
Pat
Well, have been making slow progress, although my trailing edges are turning out to be a pain cause im sheeting them rather than buying ready made TEs, :-(, having to do quite a bit of extra sanding to get it to the right profile.
Attached is a recent pic, as well as my friend's 42% (also going to be powered with the DLE-111) - he is much further than me, should be maidening it either this weekend or next that the latest, cant wait.
Those trailing edges shall become fine ones, it´s worth the sweat...
Marcus
Just got this on my mobile, maiden this weekend is starting to look promising.
