RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
has anyone tried to retract the tail wheen with a servo and the mains and doors with air. from looking at it, it would be easy to do. retract the mains and then tail wheel comming up or mains going down first then tail wheel. but the doors would all be tired into the air system. this plane orig had a servo operated tail wheel but no doors. just a thought. would like your thoughts on this setup.

So it has been a while since anyone has posted anything. Does that mean everyone is busy building or hopefully busy flying? I have made a little progress lately. I fuel proofed the tank compartment, cut out the top front deck, and the aft side deck pieces. Should get them onto the fuse tomorrow. Then I will start on the turtle deck and the dorsal fin.

Well. bit the bullet and put RDS on rudder. I was very surprised at how well it worked out, every thing is completely hidden and works perfectly. I think it is even better than pull pull cables.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
need some help here if anyone can help?. I could really use a close up picture of someones plane that has installed, I am on a really tight budget and want to make my own doors in fiberglass ( actually already done that part ) , just need to see how the the placement and shape of the doors are for the GS p-51 for anyone that's done it. thanks in advance if someone actually helps this time.. I asked back in may and no one responded.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
thanks for the link, I kinda already started though, I used the wing as a mold covered with saran and layered fiberglass over it then cut open the wing very slowly until I got to the opening you see here. This plane is going to be a daily flier and flown hard, I am going to do panel lines and rivets but going with only a basic cockpit and pilot figure and not going for the full scale competition extras as this is my first build since about 1976 when I got into the hobby with my dad doing control line combat and those were just flying wings with McCoy 19 in it LOL
anyway, here is what I ended up with... feel free to comment.

Help!! [][]Got new 2.4gh airtronics radio, very slick, but tried to hook up Tower Hobbies TS-11 micro servo to drive air valve and the universal connector dosen't seem to fit in the Airtronics Receiver. Seems to wide, what am I doing wrong? Don't want to force it. Manual and tower description say it should work.

Ok here we go....
Now that the season is almost over...at list for the mustang, I am thinking for this winter project to add a sliding canopy to my plane(good or bad idea?).
I am sure that this topic has been covered already in the previous threads, and since I am lazy and don't feel like to flip again through 55 pages , I was wondering if any of you would be interested in sharing your building process , maybe with pictures , to how I can make this upgrade somewhat easy.
Thanks for the help....

I am not sure what options are available out there...my mustang is finished with glass ,rivets and panel lines and I am looking to the least invasive way to do it ...
From your picture looks like it needs a lot of work to be able to make the mod.
I'll definitely try my own way since aerotech is bit pricey.
If you don't mind could you post some pictures of your building process...
Thanks !!
P.S. if you want to see my plane here some picture on this thread....

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
Doomking,
I did a sliding canopy on my TF P-51 ARC. The sliding canopy was fairly difficult and took a lot of time to do. The bigest issue was that due to lack of instructions or information on how to do it with the TF ARC and Aerotech Canopy there was a lot of trial and error on my part. Great result, but I would probably think twice about doing it again. I posted some pictures of the canopy build on the TF ARF build thread. Good luck.

From the "For What Its Worth" department...
Below you will find a graphic showing a sliding canopy mechanism made from brass square
tube/channel, smallest ball link and servo driven yoke made from silver soldered clevis rod.

Thanks for suggestion. Got out my dig. calipers and sure enough the servo lead was 5 thousands wider than the slot. As you said a little fine sandpaper and it slides right in. Thanks again.

glad it worked out for you.. im not quite that far along.. have another project been working on.. almost done with it and can get back on p51. I have the aero teck sliding canopy and inner and outer doors. Have to make the doors for the tail wheel. but won't be long and will be back on it again. I started with a plane someone else built.. stripped it done and started over with it.
