I have TF 1/5 P-51 plans
I am trying to complete a Top Flight Mustang (1/5 scale Gold Edition) that I purchased in 2001. I just realized that I have all the drawings except for the front half of the fuselage. I called the number on the front of the build manual (217-398-8970) to get a copy and they informed me that the drawings are no longer available.
Does anyone still have access to the drawings for this kit? If so, will you please let me know so I can get a copy, or the original?
Thanks for your help.
Eric

How close are the .60 plans in relation to the GS plans? I have all the sheet parts in PDF form that can be traced to make the actual parts, but finding the plans is near impossible, and HH will probably no longer have them. I have the originals from my .60 one and can slice and dice them to get them scaled up since they are over 36" wide and OD only goes up to 36". I will be tracing all the parts and cutting them out with a laser cutter and have the build manual already.

I have the GS kit. I might be able to scan them.
our plotter at work will only print 24" wide, but will scan 36" wide.
You should be able to find a large format plotter locally other than box stores.
We had one called Southern Photo, they worked mostly for architecture firms and the like.

I had taken my .60 plans to a print shop, they are not cheap for over 36" wide print! I think it cost me over $100 for two copies of them. They didn't save to PDF either.

Why not just get Ziroli plans and accessories. They make a bigger and nice flying airplane. I’ve built one but my pictures are buried somewhere in electronic heave. They are easy to build and detail. He has nice fiberglass cowl and air scoop.

People still want to build the TF one, so making a short kit is the goal. The plans are needed in order to get dimensions correct. Anyone can get a short kit of the Ziroli P-51, but not the TF one.

I just picked up the RTC version of this kit and I have a couple of questions. I see the recommend engine for this plane was a US 41. I have a good running EME 35 gas engine that spins the same size prop as the US 41 and produces 21 lbs of thrust. Has anyone out there flown this plane with a 40cc gas engine? If so did it have enough power to fly scale like? Also what is the length of the struts for the landing gear? I have a set of landing gear off off a Hanger 9 P-47 150 that I hope to use.

My P-51 is on its 19th season ( probably has 600 flights ). I have a G-62 with monocote covering. Robart retracts. Weighs 24.5 lbs. Has been clocked @ 105 MPH. Mine balanced perfectly with the G-62, muffler, spring starter, vibration mount, so keep the tail light or you'll have to add nose weight. I also use a 6v 2400 mAh NiCad battery. You'll have to cut at least a 1/2" off the gear covers if you fly off of grass. I use full flaps to land, ( all throws are as reccommended in the instructions ). The G-62 has the same spinner back plate to motor mount distance as the US 41 shown in the plans. Used to use a 20 x 6-10 prop but the engine has broken in so well that I had to go to a 20 x 8-14 to keep the prop noise down. Probably a little faster too. I have flown formation with a DA 50 plane and they are very similar in speed.

When that kit came out years ago Dick Petit built one as a review for "RC Report" magazine. His had a US 41 in it. In the article he said it flew fine with that engine.

The reason it shown with the US41 in the manual/plans is that is the only gas engine Tower sold at the time that would fly it reasonably, If that plane came to market today,, no doubt it would have been built using a DLE 55ra,, just so happens that is what I have in mine,, flies awesome

It has been a couple on months now and I finally have the wing fiber-glassed. I have just put bondo on the wing and will be sanding it today to get it smooth. I decided to use the e-flite 50-60cc electric landing gear for the Hanger 9 P-51. It will take a little trimming to get it to fit but it looks like it will work really well. I will post some pics once I have it installed and working.

Sorry I have been a little busy the last few months. My mother in-law past away and that took me out of it for a awhile. I am back at it now and I hope to have the wing done this weekend. Here is a few pics of the RCGF 56 mounted to a great planes anti-vibration mount. The manual of the RTC kit says the distance from the firewall to the prop hub is 7.5" to 7 3/4". The RCGF 56 was 6.5" right out of the box so I used the Great Planes anti-vibration mount to get another inch. Here is how it worked out.
I think it came out just about right

question for the builders?
DO you fill in this area with balsa or wood, or do you mount the wing such that all the pressure is between the wing and the wing saddle?
also, do you use a blind nut on the top of the mount for the wing?
and do you use Nylon bolts or metal bolts with T nuts?
do you fill this area? do you use t-nuts?

I used a hardwood block there that fills in between the mount and the saddle so that the top of the wing is secure to the plan, and tap the wood for the bolt. I us nylon, but you can use whichever you like, but keep in mind a steel bolt weighs 3 times as much as the nylon one. When tapped, shoot thin ca down the threads and retap when cured. Run the tap through a few times until the bolts go in smoothly, but not loose.

thank you so much!
I felt that the way the builder did this, I did not find it sound.
I can do it, do you have it come all the way across?
also, some more pictures I will add soon.

You know what, I got it mixed up with the ARF. I just looked at the manual and noticed the wing hold down plate is at the front of the wing, not the rear. The ARF however is at the rear of the wing and that was the one I was thinking of. I added blocks to it because the plate was weak and the wing flexed too much. On my kit built, which is not done yet, started it 8 years ago!, I put 1/2" triangle stock along the front of that plate and the former, and used the T-nuts on that one, just looked at it to confirm after looking at the manual page 52 shows a picture of it.
I attached the manual, which can also be obtained from various websites, so no copyrights are broken sharing it.
