Well, I finally finished my quarter scale Waco today. Ran the engine for a while and only had one screw come loose, but this is after chasing a severe RF problem for three weeks that turned out to be the ignition on the G62 going out. I'm just posting the picture to tickle a few of you who are building one right now or are thinking of building one.

That's a nice model you have there, looking verry good.
I wil make mine in the same colours as yours, how have you done the litle painting on the cowl? Will you place a detail picture for me?

I have recieved the engine and exaust cannisters and i am going to build it to the fuse this weekend, after finishing i will post some pics of it.

The emblems on the cowl were not painted, they are vinyl decals that I had made in the town I live in. Another person who built the quarter scale Waco was kind enough to send me an AutoCad file of the graphics you see on my plane. I don't want to share the file without his permission, so if you can wait a few days, I will get back to you. I already sent him an email asking if it is ok to share it.

The process of getting the decals made was went very well and is a very common practice. There should be someone in the Netherlands that does that sort of thing.

Gezzzzz............. I can't belive the effort that ChuckI, Redcezar and everyone else who are building this plane. I feel we in the U.S. need to travel to Holland and spy on those Dutchmen builders. They are VERY good. My friend Kris from Rotterdam and Redcezar are just a couple of great builders Kris is a machine when it comes to quality of build, He has helped me every single time I asked for it. Even contacted some parts suppliers in Germany for me to see if he could get them to step up the pace on shipping some parts I needed.
I have to say, The European's have a leg up on the U.S. Hobby shops as they seem to carry many more items of higher quailty than the U.S. stores do. I mean this towards the scale end of the model spectrum.

Redcezar, I'm going to try to get over to Rotterdam this year time and money premitting, I have got to meet Kris in person as I feel he is the brother I somehow never had. We have talked on the phone. But if I get over there I will make sure we meet as well. Maybe even have a beer or twelve.

I fasten today the engine to the first bulkhead.

I have used M6 steel thread with thick solid alu tubes and alu U profile to make a solid base for the MVVS 116.

Have some one of you maybe experience with the new ICU-P ignition? You can set differend curves and 2 differend exhaust systems, hase somone experience in practice?

Hi, I have built the 33% version of the Barth Waco. I used 1 servo only in the bottom wing on each side to operate the aleirons. I used a HiTec 5955 digital that puts out 333oz @ 6 volts. I have never had a problem with any type of flutter even at full throws and very high speed dives with a very strong pull out on the bottom of the loops. These servos are very reliable and strong. Cost is about $96 U.S. each.

For the ailerons i wil use for each a servo, I have done that with all my biplanes and works fine for me.

Today i have worked on the panels on the front off the fuselage, it is a hell off a job to get the different plates fit to each other but oke with a litle filler its oke.

I get started with the landing gear to fit the fairings etc.

Yes I know what you mean, I had the same problem. It was very time consuming for me as well. I don't know how many panels I cut before I got them to fit.

Hi Phil,

Last week i have build the landing gear and now i'am busy with the fairings around the lower wings.

I chose the MVVS 116 because of its low vibration and the power of this engine, its turns a 30x10 Menz with 6200 rpm and a 3 blade 27x12 carbon super sillent from Engel with 5800 rpm.
For the Waco i am going to use after the engine is broken in the 30x10 from 3W that prop is a litle bit more haevier and wil put the rpm to a nice 5800 rpm.

I have the same engine in a 48% Pitts from Weiershauser 15 a 16 KG

and the vertical perfomance is unlimited, so i thought this wil be enough for the Waco with its weight of 18 KG.
And i wil fly the Waco a litle bit more scale like.
A different advantage is that i can use the engine in a lot other models. Maybe if i ever win the lottery i buy the MOKI 215 that's the engine for the Waco.
A one cilinder is no option because the vibration is to much.

Cesar, You might want to re-enforce the fiberglass on the landing gear. It will show a crack line around the spot that wood and fiberglass come togeather . This is caused by the landing gear flexing a bit on landing. After trying 3 different times to get it right I just wrapped the joint in a piece of fiberglass cloth makeing sure it overlapped the joint on both sides. I used a piece fo fiberglass tape about 30mm wide or so. If you still don't know what I mean look at the photto you posted and the one with the axel sticking out is the fiberglass fairing I'm talking about. Not the wheel pants, they are fine.

I am now busy with the first panels on the fuselage, i have made them from 0,5 mm ABS.
On the backsite i put a layer of glue folie so it wil stick to the fuselage. After that is done i put litle screws in it for the scale look.

You are doing a geat job, why did you go with ABS instead of the plywood?
Well I guess I should write to Kris as well, It has been a while since I last e-mailed him.

I first put the plywood on the fuselage for the strength of the fuselage and make it all smooth.
Than I go for scale look for the panels with ABS because it is easyer to adapt and to work with than plywood and also much cheaper.

Yes I made the panels by my self.

I first measure the size of the panel and then cut it out of a piece of ABS after it is a good fit and think its oke I put on the backsite a sheet of double sided glue folie.

Then i put it in place on the fuselage and fix it with litle screws for the scale look.

And the ABS parts from the transition fuselage-wings, have you made them self, or are they ready in the kit?

The head size of the screw is 3,8mm.
The part for the transition fuselage-wings and all the other parts that came with the kit are made of GFK and are ready in the kit.

You will be pleased with the kit, if you have furthermore some questions dont hasitate asking me.
