Gas Radial for 87" Ziroli Stearman....
Hi All,
I'm contemplating putting the new [link=http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/RCS/rcs150.html]RCS 150cc Gas Radial Engine[/link] on a Ziroli 87" PT-17 Stearman. I'm not sure if this engine would be an appropriate match due to it's size, and displacement? I think it's in the ballpark - for comparison I looked at the Balsa USA 1/3 scale Stearman with the RCS 215cc Gas Radial which is an accepted combination. The 87" Ziroli Stearman airframe is about 37% smaller than the Balsa USA, while the 150cc engine is about 30% smaller than the 215cc. OK, not a perfect scaling, but pretty close! Are these comparisons valid? Any thoughts or comments?
Thanks!
John

RE: Gas Radial for 87" Ziroli Stearman....
Hi, I have the 215 on my 33% Waco YMF5. It is a GREAT engine and has moe than enough powr for my 46lb plane. All I can say is go for it!! You will love the sound, perfomance and easy starting. I'm going to get the 150 for a 25% Stinson SR 10.
The engine should fly your Stearman at about 25-30% throttel after take off, sound so real. Be prepared to spend most of the time at the field talking to people about the engine as it is a people magnet.
You will not regret it I promise you.

I am also considering the RCS 150 radial on a Ziroli 87" Stearman. I ask Mr. Ziroli about the scheme and he though it would be a great combo. I also have a chance at a 1/3 scale Stearman in the bones and covered. I am concerned that with the 215cc RCS radial I would have a problem with the 55 lbs. weight limit.
