Engine for Nosen 1/4 Citabria
I have a Nosen 1/4 Citabria that is almost ready for the firewall engine selection. I have two engines to choose from: a Kioritz 2.4 and a Quadra 50. Which engine would you suggest and why? Thanks.

RE: Engine for Nosen 1/4 Citabria
The Nosen Citabria is a fair sized aerobatic model and Nosens are not known for their ability to come out light. The 2.4.......at best you will fly on the wing and if you get into trouble, well, in most cases the model will rekit itself. Should you be considering basic aerobatics, you would be wise to go with the 50. Remember, the stick on the left side of the TX is for throttle, but then you knew that didn't you?
Also, if you have the misfortune to destroy the model, that 50 will go into a great many nice sized models that are available in our hobby today.
FLY HARD, LAND SOFTLY,AND MOST OF ALL HAVE FUN.

RE: Engine for Nosen 1/4 Citabria
My Nosen Citabria weighs 16 lbs and flies very scale like with a Saito 150. I couldn't imagine powering it with a heavy 50cc engine. (Quadra 50) or any 50cc engine for that matter. These planes were designed for .60 size glow engines This plane has a flat bottom wing and huge power/weight is not going to make it more "aerobatic". I would suggest keeping the wing loading as light as possible with the lightest powerplant you have. A 40cc engine is also too much for this airframe IMHO. Also I don't think the stock landing gear will accomodate anything larger than a 16 inch prop. I ended up getting a TNT Citabria landing gear which is substantially taller for my 18/6 prop. If I were to go gas, I would look at an engine like a G23/G26 or a RCS 180. Good luck with whatever you decide on. It's a big fun lazy day flier.[8D]

RE: Engine for Nosen 1/4 Citabria
I built a Nosen Gere Sport bipe and I read that even though it too was for a 60-90 guys were putting G-62 in them. One guy put a 6.4 twin in his! I'm leaning towards the 40cc engine. I'll put the servos in the tail to assist in balancing and I'll re-enforce the firewall and will use isomounts to lessen engine vibrations. What do you think? Let me know as I'm still working on the wings. Thanks.

If you opt for the heavier airplane, It would be wise to reinforce the wing struts and their anchor points. I did with mine just for general principals and peace of mind. Good Luck!

I got this plane off e-bay and I looked around at my available engines and these were the ones that needed a new home. I will take your advice on the wing structs and the anchor points. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks again.

Mine weighed 11 1/2 lbs. ready to fly. Monokote and Lustercote finish. Cowl built from wood and formers supplied in the kit, wheel pants from Sig Spacewalker. Replaced very little of the kit wood so there is little reason for it to weigh more or be called heavy. Powered with a Magnum 1.08 2-stroke. Flew scale like at 1/3 throttle, very aerobatic above that.
While building, raise the leading edge of the stab 3/16 to 1/4 inch. If you don't about 1/4 inch elevator down trim will be require to fly level.
Enjoy.

Dick, Good advice on the horizontal stab incidence. Are you still flying yours? Mine has been hangin' in the garage for awhile and I think it's about time to fly her again!! "Roll out those 'Lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer'.."

I damaged mine while preparing for an IMAA Fly In several years ago. Overall the damage appeared minimal but upon closer inspection most fuse joints were broken. I mended her and she now hangs in my brother-in law's "50's-60's" room in his house.
Great plane and the Monokote Circus Pink and White scheme received a lot of jeers and praise. Took it to several IMAA fly ins and the snickering would begin, however by the end of the event several of the snicker'ers would be trying to buy it!

Hey guy! I had one,, (almost 30 years ago! LOL),, I flew it with a webra .91! and mostly at 1/2-2/3 throttle! Heck,,you could wind up a rubber band and it would fly it!,,LOL I can't remember what the weight was,,( I did convert to gas ,, converted McCallogh mini-mac,,LOTS of power,, and no where near the cost of running that webra either) just be sure the firewall is beefed some,, and the fuse stringers too,, you'll have a fun flying airplane for sure!

I've aquired a ST 3000 on ignition. It appears to fit inside the cowl with no problems. I think I'll use it instead. What size servos did you/are you use(ing) on yours? Thanks again.

Just converted a Ryobi 31cc and looked at the Nosen Citabria . I would have to modify the firewall as the nose is already sheeted, but what do you think?

RE: Engine for Nosen 1/4 Citabria
What is the dihedral for the wings? I am ready to install the wing struts but I don't have any instructions. I'll be using a Q-35 for the engine, too much work to install the Ryobi. I'll fiberglass the front section back to the cabin for additional strength. I plan on installing the servos in the tail to help balance it. Any thing else? Thanks.

If you decide to go with a fiberglass cowl you can get them on ebay for about 20 to 25 bucks.
Search under Nosen. You'll find Nosen kits there too. Someone is always selling one.
I know that this doesn't contribute much to the thread but I am building the 40 size now and preparing to build the quarter scale upon the 40's completion.
I'm going with a Super Tiger 3000 on the quarter scale. I figure that any issues that I come up with while building the little guy will make the construction of the quarter scale easier.
Stay cool, Ron

I have a friend that has a 50cc and one with a 40cc, I like the scale of the 40cc, and the power with the 50. If I were to buy one I would probably go with a 50cc class motor.

RE: Engine for Nosen 1/4 Citabria
Does any one know if the Sureflite kit is real similar to Buds kit? I'm thinking about going with 26cc too. Are gyros even necessary with this plane, I am definitely going to think about putting one in even if it's not necessary.
