RE: Cessna 421 27% twin gas engine..from Wendell Hostetler
Hi Guys, the instrument bezels are both the 1/4 th and the 1/5th scale civilian sets along with the flight yokes from http://www.hobby-lobby.com/instruments.htm I also used the sq. bezels from the WWII 1/4th scale set. Its a combonation of all of those sets. I went to www.airliners.net and found a straight on shot of the panal and printed it , then enlarged it to full model size, cut it out, and made the panal pattern. Then I measured and layed out the instruments in their correct placement. I did not use the stick on inserts. I cut them out of some old AOPA (full scale aircraft) magazines from advertizements for avionics ect. They are much crisper resolution then some of the stick on stuff I have seen. J-TEC has just come out with some color stick on's, but I have not seen them...Paint your panal, then transfer the bezels one at a time where they belong. Send me your email and I will email you the pic I used. Rick

Hi guys, after I cut the foam inserts between the formers for the window sills, I used a Dremel router bit and shroud assembly. Once you have your window marked out on the sheeting panal, but before you glue it on the fuse, lay it flat on the table and recess a square area .015 deep the same size as the full scale panal, which is bigger than the oval. Then use clear plastic .015 thick, and glue it in the recess after you have glued the sheeting on the fuse. Go to www.airliners.net and search Cessna 421, then look for a closeup shot of the window panals and you will see what they look like. Those windows were the HARDEST aspect of the entire project,,,,so take your time......I did not build my fuse like Hostetlers plans = no box....I cut my formers out with a 3/4" cabin wall thickness. The scale wall thickness is 5/8" thick. I cut the fuse side sheeting panals individually from bulkhead to bulkhead,,,so if your following his "box" plan,,,,your procedure may be different....Rick

Hey,,,where you been??? your late !! There's gotta be a woman in there somewhere...Since I am using a stock Bud Nosen wing for my 414 project, I am currently retro-fitting the 1962 310 G model Bud Nosen nacelles to Wendel Hostetler 1975 Cessna 310R specifacations, by making patterns of the nacelle formers, cutting out the part that the Nosen nacelle already occupies, and making a ply rib and glueing it where it belongs. The result is that I can now plank over the new formers which covers the old nacelles. I was able to do this because the Nosen nacelle was smaller in height and width than the Hostetler 310R nacelle. Here some pics. More to follow soon. Rick

I am using Zenoah G-26's with a APC 17-8 2 bladed props. They turn 8600 rpms with a ABEL muffler. Thats good for bout 90 mph....I am modifying a Bud Nosen 120" wing with upgraded nacelles, cowls and 4" spinners. This winter I will add the longer 1975 310"R" nose to the front end of my 310 Nosen fuse and I will be able to fly either fuse on that same wing. Rick

Here's a better pic of the Nosen nacelle with the Hostetler nacelle rib layed over the top in their respective posistions. I was lucky that the Hostetler nacelle was slightly larger than the Nosen nacelle. When it's finished, you will not be able to tell there is a nacelle within a nacelle. I have planked over the ribs and am now shaping the balsa block nacelle tips. Rick

Uuups, expensive experience!! Sorry to hear.
Had two 421 C one with and one without trailing Link gear, but was especially carefull about the Gear. Had two gear struts changed, because of internal leaks!
Even the emergency bottle did not help at all? Got all struts stuck in the up position, or there was some finger trouble, as there are only two parties of pilots:
One that have already forgotten to lower the gear and the other will forget....

Yes indeed,,that's coming along nicely.....The 421 has some amount of rudder authority to hold the nose straight in an engine out situation,,,,provided you can immediatly lower the nose somewhat and you don't have to maintain any altitude to make it back to the runway...... so, I mount mine both straight ahead with one degree of downthrust from the stab incidence at zero. BUT,,,you still need to use a Twin Sync to add insurance to your flight operations...I do hope you are planing on using a twin sync.......Go to www.rcshowcase.com and download the twin sync manual, then PM me with your email and I will send you all of my supplements I have composed during my beta testing with the gas engines.....Learn all about what it has to offer...........I have heard from full scale 421 pilots that the 421 is a real handfull with one engine out = LOTS and LOTS of drag on that dead side.....Here is an update of my nacelle build.....Rick
