Large Gas Trainer Suggestions Please.
Hello -
I've been flying for a few years and have moved from 60 size glow engine airplanes to larger gas engine airplanes. I much prefer the gasoline to the glow because of ease of use and reliability. I have a friend who is wanting to learn to fly and I have suggested that he get a larger gasoline airplane instead of the standard glow 40 or 60 size trainer. What model would work well for this purpose? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

B rian,
The new SIG Four star 120 is perfect for a 26cc gas engine and is due out this week I beleive. The Four Star planes make excellent trainers but does your friend really want to spend that kind of money on a trainer?
Another one for about the same size engine is the giant telemaster
The SIG rascal 120 works with a Zenoah 626 really well and is a high wing plane

Here is another vote for the SIG 4-120.
A few years back I built one and powered it with a weed whacker engine (Ryobi 31cc)and flew the wings off it for two years.Properly trimmed a combo like this with any small gas engine up to say 35cc would make a perfect trainer AS LONG AS THE NEWBIE LEARNS WITH AN ABLE INSTRUCTOR,IMO.
My 4-120 is now with its third owner and still going strong..........

One I like is the RCGuy's Treehopper. 80" Wingspan. It is a kit that comes without hardware so you can set it up how you want. I do that with the ARF's and kits I build anyway. Might be a bit more involved, but not by much. I have a Homelite 25cc onboard. Only 100 bucks too.
Good Luck, Will
