RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
ORIGINAL: triumph02002
and one of them was the Big Bingo. The fusalage and the wings were built, but had no vertilcal or hortizontal tail section. I have no plans on this model. The fusalage has nothing to mount the wings to so I was looking for a picture or anything to help. I dont know what the center of gravity (CG) is! This plane is built like a tank. I'm using a G62 engine. Any informatin that you can share would be helpful regarding this model.
Thank You!

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
I measured for a 16oz tank. I placed it in and it fits (ok barely). If I need to move it further aft it won't be a problem. My 4500 has a Walbro carb so distance from the engine will not be a factor.

Here are some pictures of the big bingo that I have. I would like to see a picture of the plans or the inside of the fusalage to show how they mount the wings on. I'm using the tail section from another airplane and I don't have any landing gear. Thanks for the info on the C.G. Any picture of the plans that you can share would be helpful regarding this model.

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
You slide the two wing halfs together using the aluminum tube. Then you screw the wing to hardwood hold down blocks in the fuse. Ace recommended using the two metal straps (one across the front two screws and the other across the rear two) to further aid in keeping the wing on when you go outside the power envelope .

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
Hello i Have a ace bingo, and i am mounting a G38 in the plane. The plane is second hand and has a current center location on the firewall although with my mounting hardware and engine size i must move the motor 5/8 of a inch down. how will this affect flight and willit be OK? Please let me know thanks

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
I currently have an Ace 4-120 Biplane which has basically the same fuselage. It also had a G-38 on it and it was below the center of the firewall...did not effect the flight at all. You should be fine. I now have a BCMA 40 on the biplane for a little more "get up and go!" .

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
Thanks.. The only issue that i have now is that the prop is closer to the ground and the original cowl is off set... But i really do not have many options without a complete rebuild..

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
If you decide to cut the kit yourself I recommend you use 1/8th balsa for the ribs. The Ace kit uses lite ply and it is H-E-A-V-Y!!!! Heck, use balsa just about everywhere except for the firewall, landing gear mount and wing mount (don't forget to use ply for the ribs that meet since it is a two-piece wing). I know it was designed "many moons a go" but still have fun with it!

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
YEA , I HEAR ya , you really need the first 4 ribs on each side of the wing to be ply, because of the joiner tube. and i would also use
aircraft ply for the front doublers and formers. im not cutting the ribs, going to have to find a lasor cutter for those.

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
I guess it would depend on what engine you put in it. The tail is heavy because of the plywood but remember that this plane was designed before light weight engines came on the scene. Hope this helps.

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
probably a 2500 ST . IM going with balsa ribs outboard of the wing tube and possibly balsa sides, the front of the fuse will be ply
formers and doublers. i was going to use a 4500 ST , BUT you have to mess with the nose and i dont want to. i dont even know if the radial mount will fit , with room , on the front engine mount former, its tight. i have a BGX 3500, IF i need to add power. i dont think its much heavier than the 2500.

RE: Ace Big Bingo questions
Not sure if anyone is still watching this thread, but I'll try to resurrect it!
Built a couple of the Bingo 40's back in the early 90's. Really liked them, but have been watching for a Big Bingo for some time. Just located a kit and it's on it's way. Should be here tomorrow (March 29). I also have the Fiberglass Specialties cowl for it.
In reading the various (though very short) threads on this ship, it sounds like it's built a lot like the 40'size Bingo...Heavy. I just happen to have a spare DA-50 that I'm going to install. I'm not a 3-d flyer, but I'm sure there will be no lack of power here. Instead of a 22X8 Xoar prop, will likely need to go to a three-blade 20X8 to get a little better ground clearance. I'll keep you (anyone, anyone, Bueller??) posted on the build.
