Default where to get large scale plane

Are the majority of large scale planes all scratch built? Ive looked around most of the major online catalogs/sellers inventory, and noticed that the largest planes sold in kit or arf arent usually larger than 80 some inches in wingspan. I have experience building many arfs and a couple kits, but to have a real big bird seems out of reach without buying used. Any suggestions?

How big do you want?

You can get up to 41% that I've seen in an ARF and I think Bill Hemple's 50% stuff are all ARF's.

How much do you want to spend? Most of those 40% are in the $2500 range, H9 has some nice 33% and 35% stuff, Comp-Arf, Wildhare, AW, 3W, just to mention a few but the list goes on....

Here are a few that I know of

http://www.daltonaviation.com/

All of the above are large kits up to 50%

As Zeeb said....there are hundreds of ARF's in the 30% size and larger out there. If you are looking to build a kit or from plans you are much more limited. Some that come to mind are Carden, Aeroworks and Bob Trueworthys Bigairplanes.com.

I recently finished a Pitts M12 from Tueworthy in 35%. This is a full build "partial kit" and I enjoyed the build very much. Only problem is there are now one or two big ARF's of the Pitts out, so it has lost a bit of its individuality....

Why don't you have a go at building something large scale from a plan ? You never know you might just enjoy it.

It's the ultimate modelling experience. All the ARTF's in the world won't compare with something that you have created yourself.

I don't know what kind of aircraft you enjoy, but personally I'm sick to the back teeth with Edge's, Extra's, Yak's etc . They are just soooooo boring.

I've found that the plans from Wedell Hostetler are very good. I've have the PT 19 built from his plan and it is just a great flying machine.
